The day was sunny and clear, with a gentle breeze caressing the courtyard, much like the tender hands of a lover.
Dressed in women's clothing, Wu Chenxi slowly stepped into the Flourishing Flower Courtyard, hesitant in her heart: she shouldn't have come here, but she hadn't slept all night, her mind filled with thoughts of that handsome face, and her mind lingering on that lonely, somewhat disheveled figure fleeing in panic.
Today I dressed in women's clothing and walked the road to the Prince's mansion, wanting only to see that handsome face again and tell him...
Yes! What should we tell him?
Should I tell him that I spent a sleepless night thinking about him? Or should I tell him that I felt a pang of heartache and sadness when I saw that lonely departing figure?
Before Wu Chenxi could sort out her thoughts, what came into view was Ning Qing lying lazily on a soft couch under a large tree with not very lush foliage, her eyes closed, her long legs stretched out and crossed.
Beside her sat a young maid named Caiqing, holding a small palm-leaf fan, her head bowed as she brewed tea.
Ning Qing heard light yet steady footsteps. Usually, only someone with a stable lower body and lightness skills could make such footsteps. Curious, she lifted her eyelids to look at the source of the sound. Upon seeing it, she couldn't bear to look away for even a moment, her gaze fixed on the figure.
Wu Chenxi, dressed in fine clothes, stood amidst a profusion of fallen petals and vibrant colors. Her exquisite and flawless face was even more beautiful than the flowers themselves. Her complexion was like piled-up jade, her eyes like polished lacquer, her nose delicate, and her beautiful lips adorned with a touch of red.
Ning Qing thought to herself: "The piled stones are like jade, the rows of pines are like emerald green, and Lang Yan is uniquely beautiful, unparalleled in the world."
The system overheard the host's thoughts in the space, a smug look appearing on its face, and silently thought to itself: The host got a good deal, hmph.
As their eyes met, time seemed to stand still, and they saw only each other.
When the young maid looked up and saw the princess arrive, she quickly stood up, knelt down on both knees, and said, "This servant greets Your Highness the Princess."
This shout seemed to break the frozen time. Wu Chenxi turned her head slightly, her gaze flickering away from the intense gaze. Her ears were burning hot, the kind that even ice water couldn't cool down, and her cheeks were slightly flushed.
He coughed lightly to ease the awkwardness and said, "No need for formalities, please rise."
Caiqing replied loudly, "Thank you, Princess."
He quickly got up and stood behind Ning Qing.
Ning Qing waved her hand, telling her to step back.
After Caiqing left, Ning Qing stretched out his arm and waved to Wu Chenxi, "Wife, come and sit down."
Wu Chenxi walked slowly to Ning Qing and looked down at her.
Ning Qing reached out and grasped the other person's fair and beautiful hand. With a forceful pull, she dragged Wu Chenxi down. Caught off guard, Wu Chenxi lost her balance and fell into someone's arms.
Ning Qing casually wrapped one arm around the small waist that was offered to him, and pinched Wu Chenxi's chin with the other hand. He chuckled and whispered in his ear, "My wife, do you miss your husband? You're so eager to throw yourself into my arms."
Upon hearing this, Wu Chenxi was extremely embarrassed and annoyed. This man's skin was as thick as a city wall. She struggled to sit up and get out of his embrace.
Ning Qing was not about to let him have his way. She was about to let the prize slip away so easily. She tightened her grip on his waist.
Warm lips covered his, and the person in his arms stopped struggling, staring wide-eyed at him.
Ning Qing leaned close to his ear again and whispered, "Close your eyes."
Wu Chenxi subconsciously obeyed and closed her eyes. Ning Qing chuckled and covered her soft lips with hers again.
