Inside the main tent, Meng Zhengxi sat at the head of the table, coldly watching the two people kneeling below.
He spoke coldly, "If you want to redeem yourselves, so be it."
“A batch of grain has arrived at the Daqing Kingdom’s military camp this month. Go and bring that batch of grain back to me, and that will settle the matter.”
Upon hearing this, the two exchanged a glance and saw a bitter smile in each other's eyes.
But he had no choice but to accept the job.
Ning Qing, carrying the jade pendant that his wife had given him as a token of their love, returned to his residence in high spirits.
There stood Shu Yun, the little girl, at the doorway, looking around anxiously.
When they saw Ning Qing, their big, round eyes immediately lit up.
He lifted his foot and ran over here. After stopping, his gaze carefully swept over Ning Qing, from head to toe, and then from toe to head.
After confirming that Ning Qing was alright, he asked anxiously.
"Brother, where did you go so early in the morning? I came to bring you breakfast but couldn't find you. I had to wait here."
Ning Qing: I didn't go out this morning, but I didn't come back at all last night.
But she didn't want to say these things to Shu Yun.
Shu Yun gently tugged at Ning Qing's hand, "Brother, while the porridge is still warm, hurry back to your room and have a bowl."
Ning Qing reached out and patted her little head, replying, "Okay."
Just as the two were having breakfast, the madam's high-pitched voice came from outside again.
"Ning Qing, Ning Qing, come out here!"
Ning Qing knew the madam's purpose in coming; it was nothing more than about what happened last night.
He looked up at the little girl, Shu Yun.
"Xiaoyun, you can go out first."
Shu Yun, the little girl, shook her head with a firm expression.
Then he approached Ning Qing and spoke softly.
"No, I have to stay here with you, brother. The madam loves to bully the people in the building."
"I can't let you get bullied by her."
As they were talking, the madam had already stepped into the room.
Ning Qing was drinking porridge.
His first words were a accusation. "What's wrong with you, kid? Why did you steal Lin Yin's customer last night?"
Ning Qing slowly raised her head to look at the madam's obese body and spoke leisurely.
"What, did the guests from last night not pay?"
The madam paused for a moment, slightly taken aback.
No, not at all.
Ning Qing said, "Since the money has been paid, what does it matter who receives the customer?"
The madam was speechless for a moment, but then she thought about it and realized it made sense.
Both of them are kept as prostitutes in the building, so it doesn't matter who takes the customers.
As long as the money is enough, that's fine!
Ning Qing glanced at her sideways and asked indifferently.
"Is there anything else, Mom?"
The madam slowly shook her head.
Ning Qing said, "Since there's nothing else, please let Mom go home first. I was exhausted last night and need to get some rest."
Upon hearing this, the madam couldn't stop smiling, remembering the money she had earned the previous night.
"Okay, okay, you get some rest, Mom won't bother you."
He turned and walked away, but stopped at the door.
Turning to Ning Qing, he said, "Your clothes are a bit old and the style is too simple. Go to Huang's in a couple of days and have a couple of nicer outfits made."
"Now that we're starting to receive customers, we'd better dress up properly."
After the madam left.
Shu Yun, who had been standing silently to the side, suddenly called out softly, "Brother."
Ning Qing looked up and saw that Shu Yun's eyes were already red, and she was trying hard to hold back her tears.
Ning Qing, "What's wrong with you?"
