3-8: Long-coveted
Huaiyan had just stepped into the classroom when the class bell rang.
Gao Jia stared longingly at the boy's lean figure and asked, "Are you feeling better? You actually came to class?"
Huaiyan stuffed the medicine into the drawer and replied, "I feel better."
Gao Jia was relieved to see that Huai Yan was really alright.
Then, as if remembering something.
Gao Jia pushed the desk forward, placing it against Huai Yan's waist.
“Let me tell you,” Gao Jia said in a low voice, mysteriously, “the police came when you weren’t here yesterday.”
Huai Yan, who was about to pick up the book, suddenly stopped: "W-what?"
However, before he could get any answers, the classroom door was pushed open again.
The person who arrived was tall with long legs, and had a cool and handsome appearance. He was wearing a school uniform jacket, with the zipper zipped up all the way.
The boy also had a white backpack slung across his left shoulder.
"Jiang Yuxing?" Gao Jia muttered in surprise, then asked in a low voice, "Didn't he take three days off? Why is he here today?"
At this moment, Huai Yan had no time to answer Gao Jia's question.
His gaze was fixed on Jiang Yuxing.
Jiang Yuxing had a clean aura and gentle features; he was indeed the kind of person you could spot at first glance in a crowd.
In the original storyline, Chen Nuannuan's relentless pursuit of Jiang Yuxing was probably for the same reason.
If it were someone less attractive or with worse grades, Chen Nuannuan probably wouldn't have held a grudge.
As Gao Jia was speaking, Jiang Yuxing walked straight up to the podium and headed towards them.
"Yu Xing." Gao Jia waved to Jiang Yu Xing and asked, "Why did you come back early?"
Jiang Yuxing paused, then put down his backpack and said gently, "Everything was fine over there, so I came back."
Gao Jia seemed to know everyone.
Upon hearing this, he simply changed the subject easily and continued, "Have you eaten?"
Jiang Yuxing hung his schoolbag on the back of the chair and nodded slightly: "I've already eaten."
Gao Jia clearly didn't believe it.
A few seconds later, he pulled a small bread roll from the drawer of the table and threw it onto Jiang Yuxing's table.
"Let's eat," Gao Jia said lazily, resting her chin on her hand, but her gaze was fixed on Huai Yan. "Huai Yan and I can't finish it all."
Huai Yan was taken aback and turned to look at Gao Jia.
The latter was smiling at him with a smug look on his face, his eyes full of pride.
Jiang Yuxing smiled sheepishly, looked at Huai Yan, and said in a clear and gentle voice, "Thank you."
The boy was startled and waved his hands repeatedly, his almond-shaped eyes widening in surprise.
Suddenly, a unique mechanical voice sounded from backstage.
[Jiang Yuxing's favorability +5. Note: When the male lead's favorability reaches 100, this character's future can be rewritten.]
Current progress: 5/100%
Huaiyan was slightly surprised.
It's not because of the incremental increase in goodwill.
Instead, Jiang Yuxing's favorability rating increased by five points simply because of a few pieces of bread.
So why was Chen Nuannuan unable to win over Jiang Yuxing for so long in the original storyline?
Although the two eventually got together, Jiang Yuxing never truly gave his heart to Jiang.
"Why are you worrying about this?" 073 said. "You can't force a relationship. Chen Nuannuan's identity is completely different from Jiang Yuxing's."
A proud and arrogant young lady who has never suffered any hardship since childhood.
They are certainly different from impoverished students who come from poor families, have to work several jobs, and rely on the school to reduce their tuition fees.
Moreover, when Chen Nuannuan first pursued Jiang Yuxing, their statuses were not equal.
It's understandable that Jiang Yuxing doesn't like Chen Nuannuan.
So Huaiyan stopped worrying about it.
As soon as get out of class ended, Gao Jia solemnly dragged Huai Yan out of the classroom.
The boy was small and weak, and Gao Jia easily dragged him downstairs.
"W-what happened?" Huaiyan stammered in fright, her steps frantic.
Gao Jia noticed that the boy was panting heavily, so she slowly stopped.
"It's nothing," Gao Jia scratched his head and said, "I was just thinking, Jiang Yuxing always eats alone, should we bring him along for lunch today?"
Before they knew it, the two had gone down to the second floor.
As Huai Yan listened, he glanced casually at the half-closed office door.
The school provides teachers with mostly private offices.
When Huaiyan went to Bai Wenzhou's office last time, he wasn't there and saw no one else.
I suppose men also have their own offices.
What is he doing?
Huai Yan was curious, but didn't dare to go over and take a look.
It wasn't until Gao Jia poked his shoulder hard that the boy suddenly came to his senses.
"Huh...?" The boy's voice was blank, and he said softly, "Y-yes, I have no objection."
Anyway, since Jiang Yuxing is closer to them, it's easier to increase their favorability.
That's true, but we still have to ask.
Gao Jia suddenly changed the subject, "—What were you looking at just now?"
Before Huaiyan could react, Gao Jia's gaze followed him.
"Huh?" he asked, puzzled. "Isn't this Professor Bai's office? Do you need to see him?"
Gao Jia's voice was neither too loud nor too soft, and it was unclear whether Bai Wenzhou could hear it.
Huaiyan immediately sounded the alarm and quickly pulled the person downstairs.
If he stayed any longer, he feared Gao Jia would just rush in and go chat with Bai Wenzhou.
-
By the window.
The man, holding a cup of Americano, looked down through the glass window with a blank expression.
The boy walked with another person, their posture intimate.
The other person said something, and the two of them burst into laughter again.
Until the boy's figure completely disappeared from sight.
Bai Wenzhou then indifferently withdrew his gaze.
Then, as if nothing had happened, the man turned and left the window.
A few seconds later, the boy downstairs seemed to sense something and looked up through the branches.
But they gained nothing.
-
"Huh—?" Gao Jia asked, biting her chopsticks, quite shocked. "There's such a thing?"
In the cafeteria, Gao Jia sat opposite his classmate, with Huai Yan and Jiang Yuxing beside him.
My deskmate lowered his head, took a sip of soup, adjusted his thick glasses, and continued, "But that's not the most important thing—"
The two were talking about how several police officers had suddenly come to the academic affairs office yesterday.
It's said they're investigating some kind of surveillance footage.
In fact, Huaiyan had already guessed that the matter was related to him.
But he didn't want to care too much; he only knew that the other party deserved what he got.
As for who called the police...
The boy had a vague idea in his mind.
"What's the key?" Gao Jia asked immediately.
"The key point is that if these things are true, it would be considered intentional assault!" Xiang Yang slammed his hand on the table. "That could land you in jail!"
Gao Jia nodded, but said, "But he deserved it, didn't he?"
Xiang Yang smacked his lips, then buried his head in his food and took another bite, indignantly saying, "Of course he deserves it! He should be locked up for a few years!"
Huaiyan was startled by the sudden increase in volume from the two people and the shaking of the dining table.
"Want some?
Huaiyan hesitated, then pushed the untouched sweet and sour pork in front of her toward Jiang Yuxing, saying, "I can't eat anymore."
After speaking, the boy let out a small burp and smiled sheepishly.
The boy had fair skin and spoke with utmost sincerity.
There was no indication that he was lying to Jiang Yuxing.
Jiang Yuxing then believed it.
His ears turned red, but he still habitually refused: "I'm almost full too..."
Before he could finish speaking, the boy interrupted him in a soft voice.
"Jiang Xue Shen—" Huai Yan's tone was almost like a pleading child, "Can I just eat a little bit?"
Seeing this, Gao Jia pulled Xiang Yang into the group trying to persuade him to eat.
Under the onslaught of the three, Jiang Yuxing had no choice but to accept a full bowl of sweet and sour pork.
"By the way," Xiang Yang put down his chopsticks and looked at Jiang Yuxing, "genius, when are you going to participate in the competition?"
Jiang Yu froze, then asked hesitantly, "A competition?"
“Yeah, right.” Xiangyang said matter-of-factly, “Didn’t the teacher tell you? Then it’ll probably be soon.”
“It’s a provincial geography competition,” Gao Jia added. “I heard that if you win an award, the school will give you a scholarship.”
In previous years, Jiang Yuxing was always the one to participate in such competitions, whether it was the International Mathematical Olympiad or the Geography Olympiad.
After all, Jiang Yuxing's achievements speak for themselves.
This is the living signboard of Licheng High School.
"Wait a minute..." Xiangyang frowned. "I remember registration is coming up soon, hasn't the teacher told you yet?"
At this point, the four of them realized that something was wrong.
Huaiyan turned her last hopeful gaze to Jiang Yuxing.
Jiang Yuxing's family is in financial difficulty, so this scholarship would definitely be a good thing.
Jiang Yuxing smiled gently and shook his head.
Huai Yan felt a chill in her heart, a sense of foreboding washing over her.
Jiang Yuxing has excellent grades and is one of the top students in his grade. How could they not inform him about a competition beforehand?
Something unusual must be going on.
"I'll ask your geography teacher this afternoon," Gao Jia sighed. "He'll know best who got the spot."
Huai Yan was taken aback, then her eyes lit up.
How could he forget Bai Wenzhou?
“Host,” 073 said coolly, “the geography test hasn’t even started yet.”
Huai Yan's smile vanished instantly.
However, the scene was quite different during the afternoon geography class.
The school bell rang for about five or six minutes, but Bai Wenzhou was still not in the classroom.
The classroom was in an uproar, with someone shouting that the class representative should go find the teacher.
Huaiyan propped her head up with her hand, glancing at Jiang Yuxing every now and then.
Although he was looking at Jiang Yuxing, the boy was thinking of Bai Wenzhou.
The man seemed quite composed; he wouldn't suddenly skip class.
If anything happens, the class will be rescheduled.
Thinking back to yesterday, the man took care of her methodically and meticulously, even cooking her porridge.
Huaiyan felt more and more that something was wrong.
Ten minutes later, Bai Wenzhou still hadn't entered the classroom.
The geography class representative had already stood up and, at the students' urging, was preparing to go to the office.
After all, it's an honors class, so the students are always more enthusiastic in class than in regular classes.
However, before the class representative could leave his seat...
A student rushed in through the classroom door, panting heavily.
The boy stood at the classroom door and shouted, "Teacher Bai said this period is self-study—"
Then, the boy changed the subject.
"Is Huaiyan there? Teacher Bai is looking for you."
