It's pretty boring to just watch the guests cook all the time, especially since they're all ordinary people with little variety show experience. Probably because they're unfamiliar with each other, they don't interact much with their assistants; they're just the chef and the assistants.
If it weren't for the recent sudden popularity of the Ice and Snow Planet food livestream, and the fact that Goddess Ling is an investor in this program, it would definitely have flopped.
The show had no fixed script, and the host had no lines to memorize. Under the instructions of the production team, he acted as an unprofessional commentator.
He used to host food shows, that's true, but this time the ingredients were completely outside his area of expertise.
"Let's take a look. The ingredient used by contestant number 1 is... is it called a 'Huhu insect'? If I remember correctly, a similar insect appeared in the Ice and Snow Planet Food Live Stream, but judging from the cooking method, it doesn't seem to be the same."
Number 1 was a pretty girl. After the host finished speaking, she looked up and smiled. The dimples on her cheeks made her look gentle and playful.
"I've only ever seen Zerg on the StarNet before, and I've never used them as food, so I'm being rather conservative with my choices today. The Huhu Zerg is said to have quite plump meat, and it doesn't seem too difficult to prepare, but the seasonings I drew don't quite match what I originally thought."
She raised her eyebrows, sighed helplessly, puffed out her cheeks, and pretended to be worried: "I hope it doesn't backfire, otherwise it will be incredibly embarrassing."
The host was wearing glasses and could see the comments in the live stream. He saw many people comforting No. 1, but there were also a few annoying ones.
He laughed along, offering a fake consolation: "It's alright, we're all starting from the same point."
He paused for a moment, then glanced at the guests with ill intent: "The essence of seasoning is to be unexpected, to create a flavor that is beyond expectation. We call it the 'flavor of surprise'."
With no one cheering, the host felt a little embarrassed, but the live stream chat was filled with "hahahaha". He touched his nose and moved to the next guest.
Number 2 has entered old age; his speech and movements are slower but steady, giving off a calm and composed feeling that brings peace and tranquility.
In contrast, his assistant was not so peaceful; he was sweating profusely as he worked hard to prepare the ingredients.
Contestant #2 and his assistant cut the meat into chunks and took out a high-temperature blowtorch, seemingly intending to roast it. The host glanced at it and asked doubtfully, "It is said that the Humming Bug has thick skin and meat, and is resistant to both cold and heat. Can it be cooked with a high-temperature blowtorch? Contestant #2, do you have any tips to share with everyone?"
After inspecting the high-temperature flamethrower, No. 2 looked up at the camera and slowly shook his head: "It is resistant to heat and cold because its skin surface has a special oil layer, which is similar to the coating on the outside of polar protective clothing."
"It seems that the Humming Bug has the potential to contribute to technological development. That's great."
"Hmm. The Humming Bug has two 'outer skins'. The outermost layer is actually its shell, which is very hard and cannot be cut by an ordinary knife. What I had my assistant cut off was the meat inside. You can see that the two kinds of meat are different."
When he spoke, he deliberately put down the flamethrower and placed the two pieces of meat together. The camera zoomed in on this part of the live stream, and you could see that the meat on the plate was very tender.
If you ignore the original ugly appearance of the humming worm and just look at the meat, all the viewers find it quite appetizing.
The host looked at contestant number 2 explaining earnestly and asked, "How does contestant number 2 know so much?"
Viewers who had been watching his live stream were already explaining things in the comments. The host watched as Number 2 said, "I just dissected one and checked the texture of the meat."
The assistant forcibly cut it open with a lightsaber. After understanding the internal structure of the food, he felt that he had damaged it, so he went around looking for a second one, which is why he was the second to last to return.
As for number 5, who came in last, he was not satisfied with any of them. Finally, seeing that time was running out, he put several intact insect corpses together, picked one out, and left the rest on the spot, making the viewers on the StarNet feel the heartache of future food supplies being wasted.
The sheer number of Zerg meant these guests had no worries about waste; they could kill ten and throw away nine, but that was before. Once the Zerg officially became part of humanity's diet, it was uncertain whether the Zerg on Ralph, which reproduced excessively every year, would be enough to supply the entire interplanetary.
—Whether it's enough or not, these Zerg on Ralph Star were the subject of the Imperial Military Academy's entrance exam. Using them for a TV show is one thing, but using them as a source of food is absolutely out of the question.
The host went to interview the next person. By the time it was number 6, this person had already processed the beetle meat and put it into the oven. There was a large pot of green liquid in the casserole next to him.
He watched in horror as Number 6 recklessly added lemon juice and brown sugar, and the green color gradually turned blue-green.
The long-handled spoon was stirring, with only the handle sticking out. The blue-green liquid kept bubbling up, making the scene look like a witch brewing poison, which made even the honest-looking face of Number 6 appear sinister.
If the amount of seasoning wasn't limited, he felt that No. 6 could have added even more ingredients.
The host had hosted several food programs, but had never seen anything like this before, and was momentarily at a loss for words.
Number 6 gave him a strange look, took a plate out of the oven, and put the plate in instead.
He set the plate aside to cool and asked the host, "Is it my turn? What do you want to ask? Let me make it clear beforehand, I absolutely will not reveal what I am going to do in advance. You said you wanted to make a 'surprise flavor'."
The host snapped out of his daze and realized he had forgotten to breathe. After seeing that number 6 and his assistant showed no signs of poisoning, he slowly began to inhale, trying to determine whether the pot of food was safe to drink.
