Chapter 164 The Green Hat Hero in the Apocalypse (4)

"Sis, when is brother-in-law coming back? I'm starving!" Chu Yang slumped on the sofa, watching TV as he urged him on.

He randomly flipped through the channels and found that they were all reporting on zombies. Yesterday there were even live reporters on camera, and today it was aerial footage. The day before yesterday they were lying and saying it was the flu virus, but now that they can't hide it anymore, they've finally admitted it's a zombie virus.

There are many post-apocalyptic novels online, which Chu Yang enjoys reading. He has also frequented post-apocalyptic forums, discussing with other netizens which superpowers are more useful, how to survive, and even fantasizing about how he would wreak havoc if the apocalypse came.

But the reality is that no survival guide is of any use. He doesn't dare to go out and collect supplies, can't stand the tasteless food, and has no superpowers. He doesn't even know if superpowers exist in the apocalypse they are experiencing.

He was also afraid of those zombie-like monsters. The first time he tried to look out the window at this new world, he saw a person being bitten to a bloody pulp by a zombie. After that, his legs went weak at the sight of zombies, and he didn't dare to go out and fight them like his brother-in-law.

Fortunately, he has a capable brother-in-law.

Thinking of this, he smiled smugly and said, "Luckily, my sister chose Wang Hao back then."

Chu Rongrong stood at the bedroom door, not listening to what he was saying at all, staring at her phone with a grim expression.

This was the first time Wang Hao had hung up on her.

The apocalypse had only just begun, and the water and electricity were still running. She maintained her refined lifestyle, wearing a silk nightgown, with a subtly applied makeup look, and her hair curled at the ends. She always maintained a goddess-like aura, looking clean and timid, charming and alluring. Even when she was angry, she was still beautiful.

Chu Yang hadn't received a response from his sister, so he turned around and saw that she looked upset. He asked with a smile, "Sis, what's wrong? Did your husband make you angry?"

Chu Rongrong gripped her phone tightly, feeling agitated. Hearing him speak, her temper flared up instantly: "Turn the TV up so loud, are you afraid the zombies won't hear you?"

Chu Yang wanted to retort that the TV sound wasn't even as loud as his voice, but when he heard the word "zombie," he shuddered. He thought of his father's ferocious face when he mutated and pounced, and then he thought of the person who was bitten to death.

He took the remote and turned off the TV, making the room instantly quiet; you could even hear the dripping of the kitchen faucet.

Orange-yellow light shone through the gaps in the curtains, tinged with blood. The window couldn't block the sound of the zombie band's chorus, and everything that seemed ordinary became terrifying in the silence.

Suddenly, a child upstairs started crying loudly, the sound inexplicably shrill and terrifying.

Chu Yang jumped up in a rage, but his mind was uncontrollably filled with images of pairs of pale eyes staring at him. His face showed terror, and his expression was completely torn apart.

His lips moved, his teeth chattered, and he glared angrily, but in the end, he couldn't bring himself to utter a curse. Fortunately, the child's voice soon disappeared.

He felt the urge to urinate but held it in and didn't go to the toilet. Trying to distract himself, he turned the TV back on, but couldn't make out the content. It didn't sound like human voices, so he unconsciously turned it up a bit, which finally eased the eerie atmosphere.

Chu Rongrong breathed a sigh of relief, and unconsciously leaned against the door frame, her body trembling slightly.

Chu Yang couldn't help but ask again, "When is my brother-in-law coming back?"

Chu Rongrong bit her lip, her eyes reddening, and said aggrievedly, "He hung up on me."

Chu Yang jumped up again, his expression panicked and tense: "Has something happened to him? What do we do? Sis, why don't you try calling again?"

The two stared intently at Chu Rongrong's phone, only to hear a female voice say, "Sorry, the number you dialed is currently switched off..."

"No, brother-in-law's phone must have just run out of battery and turned off. Sis, don't be nervous." Chu Yang started shaking his leg, whether from worry and nervousness or from the urge to urinate, it was hard to tell.

"Yes, there must be a reason why he has never hung up on me."

"Exactly, he might already be on his way back, and it's just inconvenient for him to answer the phone."

"He has never hung up on me before."

Five minutes later, Chu Yang said weakly, "Sister, I need to go to the toilet, but I'm scared."

An hour later, the two waited in vain for the self-heating hot pot and various snacks. They silently made instant noodles, not daring to imagine how they would survive without Wang Hao. So they tacitly agreed not to mention it again.

They dared not turn on the lights, and finished their dinner by the light of the television. Afterwards, they pushed the dishes aside, and no one wanted to clean them up.

As the night deepened, Chu Rongrong began to feel sleepy, but she dared not sleep alone. She needed someone to stand guard outside the door when she took a shower to feel at ease. Chu Yang, who was afraid to go to the toilet alone, obviously could not give her this sense of security.

She couldn't stand not taking a shower, and after struggling, she went into the bathroom. But when she felt insecure, even the sound of the water was so loud that it startled her. She had to talk to her younger brother every now and then, which made them both even more panicked.

The siblings, wrapped in blankets, sat snuggled together on the sofa, watching the movie listlessly.

"sister."

Chu Rongrong was dozing off when her younger brother suddenly spoke, startling her so much that she dropped her phone onto the wooden floor with a loud thud.

Both of them were startled at the same time and let out a short, sharp scream.

That night, Di Xiu was trying to separate the chaotic spiritual energy of this world for cultivation. 001 was trying out her new function while enjoying the occasional playful scares between the siblings.

In just one night, Chu Rongrong lost her energy and spirit, like a withered flower. Chu Yang, who was used to staying up late to play games, looked alright.

As the first rays of dawn appeared on the horizon, Di Xiu opened his eyes, his pupils gleaming with spiritual light.

001 had no doubt about his cultivation skills and said happily, "I think Wang Hao is quite smart. The mission requirements basically told you the solution directly. Dealing with the Chu siblings, letting them go is more effective than any face-slapping or scum-abusing methods. In just one night, they scared themselves into this state."

Wang Hao is a fitness coach with a typical physique, but he's not just all show and no substance. He's trained in Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) and Muay Thai; one punch from him could send an adult man to the hospital.

From his physique and fighting ability to his personality, he exudes a strong sense of security.

In the timeline, until they met Simon Hui and his group, the Chu siblings were always in a sense of security provided by Wang Hao, even though they were cowards who were afraid of zombies and would turn into screaming chickens at the drop of a hat.

To shatter their sense of security, the most difficult thing is to prove that "Wang Hao" will no longer care about their lives. But this will bring another problem: they will become unreasonable and argumentative. If there are bystanders, they will most likely criticize "Wang Hao" for being cold-hearted without asking why, after all, those two are his wife and brother-in-law—which is somewhat upsetting.

The simplest way is to make Chu Rongrong and Chu Yang feel that "Wang Hao" is no longer there. If he's gone, their sense of security will naturally disappear.

Wang Hao truly lived up to his reputation as the person who understood them best. This move was remarkably effective, and there was nothing wrong with it. Even 001 couldn't help but praise him for his kindness.
