Simon Hui was puzzled and annoyed to find that the base did not respond after he made his request. By the fourth day, he could no longer sit still.
When the base's higher-ups heard that he had come to their door, they thought he had come to his senses. But as soon as he opened his mouth, their faces turned green.
"I don't know what you need a Level 3 ability user for, but besides me, can you find another Level 3 ability user? You'd better think it through and not make a decision you'll regret."
The higher-ups nodded solemnly after hearing this, then called in two officers and asked, "What crime is it for killing someone at the base? Has he been punished?"
"not yet."
With a wave of his hand, the high-ranking official said domineeringly, "Take him away."
Simon looked at him with a cold gaze, knocked down the two officers, and sneered as he cracked his knuckles: "You know where Wang Hao is, don't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't have refused me, a level three lightning-type ability user, for his sake. Tell me, where is he, or don't blame me for being impolite."
The executive suddenly stood up, his hand gripping the edge of the table as if trembling, his face turning dark: "What are you trying to do? I don't know the whereabouts of Wang Hao you mentioned. I'm refusing you because I don't trust you, and you're far less important than you think."
"Heh, you want to protect him but won't talk, huh? Then let's change the position of base leader." Ximen Hui held lightning in his hand, and lightning crackled under his feet as he walked towards the upper levels with each heavy step, exuding an air of arrogance.
The higher-ups seemed to be furious, slamming their hands on the table with a soft "click" sound. Ximen Hui didn't pay attention, but suddenly his feet lost their footing, and a feeling of weightlessness instantly reached his central nervous system.
It was a well about one meter square and ten meters deep. There were no sharp knives or anything terrifying at the bottom, just some rocks. Ximen Hui fell in hard, let out a muffled groan, and his fate was unknown.
The higher-ups walked over, peeked out, and scoffed, giving the bottom of the well the middle finger: "Idiot, you dare to come and storm my headquarters all by yourself? Do you think I'm some kind of ordinary person who's easy to bully?"
As a non-superpowered individual, he naturally had to guard against superpowered individuals causing trouble and trying to kill him.
He didn't know that he was actually just lucky that Ximen Hui didn't use his mental power to investigate. Of course, his mental power had been damaged by Di Xiu before, so he couldn't use it for the time being.
But it's hard to say how long this "short period of time" will take.
There is now a relatively stable method for awakening superpowers: first, let a zombie bite you, then infuse spiritual energy into you; there's a 50% chance of awakening. For various reasons, it's currently only used on military personnel, and only in small batches.
If the top leaders of each base wanted, they could also acquire superpowers, but the head of Base Five refused to awaken them, arguing that superpowers would interfere with his stance and judgment and divert his energy.
001 really didn't want anything to happen to him. He lowered his head and edited a message. After thinking about it, he decided to ask Di Xiu for his opinion first.
Can I send it?
"Um."
The higher-ups woke up the two officers who were under electric shocks. Looking down, they saw an anonymous text message on their phones, reminding them that Simon Hui had a second superpower.
It wasn't a secret at the base that Simon Hui had two superpowers, but according to what the higher-ups knew, his second superpower should be spatial ability, while the news said that "Simon Hui's second superpower is mental ability."
He's good at nitpicking. Since it's the second, not the third, it probably means that he's denying that space is a superpower.
Space... This high-ranking official is not even forty years old. He has read some trendy novels about cheat codes and knows about things like mustard seed spaces. He wonders if the novels have become reality.
The apocalypse seems to be a novel coming to life, so having multiple dimensions wouldn't be surprising. But aren't dimensions and dual superpowers supposed to be protagonist stats?
The higher-ups shuddered, unable to imagine what would happen if this world were a novel, and this guy were the protagonist. Would the world's ultimate fate be destruction?
However, the most important thing right now is who sent the text message and how they found out about it.
He deduced that it must be someone from the base, who could see Simon Hui coming over, ordered someone to take the guy in the well away and lock him up, and then instructed the technicians to investigate the source of the information.
After much thought, he decided to have someone find a way to get the appearance of Wang Hao, the man Ximen Hui had mentioned. He wanted to see for himself the kind of person the "protagonist" was so obsessed with.
When Simon woke up, he found his hands and feet wrapped in rubber and tied up. There was also rubber under his feet and above his head. There was nothing around him except a black screen on one of the walls.
A voice came from the speakers next to the monitor: "You're awake."
When those three words are spoken, there is a feeling of gritted teeth, and you can almost imagine the angry and hateful expression on the speaker's face.
Simon Hui grimaced as he got up from the ground, exhaled a long breath, and his face was so gloomy it was almost dripping with water: "What are you going to do?"
The man snorted heavily and said in a harsh voice, "You're asking me! What do you want to do to the base commander this time!"
Simon Hui sneered, "It's shameful that the leader of all the superhumans in the base is an ordinary person."
Suddenly, a loud bang came from over there. Someone was kicking the table with such force that it moved and the sound was ear-piercing.
Several voices rang out at the same time, urging the hot-tempered man to calm down.
"You scum..."
A gentle voice interrupted the irritable man's roar: "You go out first, let me talk to him. Everyone go out, leave this to me."
"Can you do it?"
"I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work out, it won't make a difference in time. Or are you just not comfortable with me?"
The hot-tempered man threatened, "You better put away your crooked thoughts, or I'll make you regret it."
The gentle older brother readily agreed.
Simon Hui barely managed to focus his attention. He heard the sound of a door opening and heard a flurry of footsteps as people left, but he couldn't tell exactly how many people were there.
After the door closed, someone clicked their tongue, followed by a soft snort, and said "lackey," as footsteps approached the microphone on the other end.
The gentle older brother chuckled and said into the microphone, "Mr. Simon, how about we make a deal?"
Simon Hui remained silent.
"Alright, alright, let me be frank first. Well... to put it this way, I'm actually not happy with the base chief either. He's just an ordinary person, yet he bullies us ability users and always sides with those good-for-nothings, suppressing and exploiting us ability users..."
Simon Hui was certain from that sentence that at least the hot-tempered guy was gone, but he didn't reply immediately.
He knew a little about the tricks the police used during interrogations, such as expressing agreement with him and then trying to extract information.
