Chapter 204 The Beautiful, Weak, and Tragic Mermaid (3)

Di Xiu found the original owner's father in a tank of fish. He was one of the last nine fish he brought back. His mother was the chief of the mermaid clan, who had passed away.

There was no heartwarming embrace between father and son. The father was still unconscious, and Di Xiu, the fake son, was completely unable to empathize with him. He only found out about this from the other fish.

He looked at the mission again, pondered for a moment, and then communicated with 001 through his consciousness. The latter was initially surprised, his eyes full of disapproval, but after a while, he pursed his lips and nodded.

"I'll ask you one last time, are you really sure you want to do this?"

"Um."

"Then I'll send out the application."

Di Xiu patted 001's head reassuringly: "We won't miss this one time."

“I know, but I am your system, and I should prioritize you,” 001 paused, then said ruthlessly, “without violating the highest rules of the Time and Space Administration.”

...

Di Xiu occasionally plays chess or cards with the elders of Haishi Village, but he spends most of his time cultivating.

This world doesn't have levels of strength. He went out and fought a demon, then felt he had enough and stopped cultivating.

He wiped the talisman off the tank and redrawn it, repeatedly telling the fish not to leave. Still worried, he covered it with a fishing net. After telling the village elders that he was leaving for a while, he took advantage of the night to dive into the sea.

He adapted well to this body, wagging his large tail, breaking through the waves, and heading straight for a certain direction on the seabed, leaving behind large patches of bubbles along the way.

As he dived deeper and deeper, the temperature of the surrounding seawater dropped significantly, and the cute marine life became fewer and fewer, replaced by all sorts of oddly shaped creatures.

In the deepest part of the East Sea lived a hawksbill turtle spirit who had lived for an unknown amount of time. He sensed the turbulence in the water, slowly opened one eye, and discovered that it was that little mermaid who had been playing outside for quite a while.

It slowly asked, "Little Tide, how are your people doing now?"

Di Xiu stopped in front of him and replied, "Those taken away are all still alive."

Hawksbill Turtle Spirit: "..."

The tortoise spirit gave up on chatting with him again and retreated into its shell. It was rare to find a junior who appreciated him, and whether intentionally or not, the tortoise always managed to leave the turtle speechless.

Emperor Xiu passed him and his figure vanished in an instant.

As the human race's fortunes grew stronger, some powerful demons who disliked worldly affairs would set up such a barrier to protect the nearby monsters. The barrier set up by the Dragon King of the East Sea was home to many marine spirits.

The hawksbill turtle spirit usually guards the entrance to this barrier in the East Sea. Outsiders or demons who want to enter must obtain his permission. Therefore, he has never understood how a demon could bypass him and sneak into the barrier.

This barrier isolates humans from exploration; it is not only invisible to the naked eye, but also undetectable by instruments with current technology.

The barrier is protected by magical artifacts that maintain light and a suitable temperature; it's not too bright, but it's not dark either.

Emperor Xiu swam straight towards the Crystal Palace, though at a slower pace than before.

"Little Tide, who are you looking for?" asked the shrimp soldiers and crab generals at the entrance of the Crystal Palace.

In their twenties, they are already adults among humans, but among fairies, they are still little children, especially mermaids who possess endless life.

"Is the Dragon King here?"

The shrimp soldiers and crab generals looked at each other in bewilderment: "What do you want with the Dragon King?"

"Borrowing a magic weapon."

"If you want to heal your people's injuries, no amount of magical artifacts will help."

Emperor Xiu remained unmoved: "Please inform them that Chao Xi wishes to borrow the Soul Gathering Pearl."

He now only has Wuji left besides this body, but he can't hand over either of them, so he can only state his purpose first and discuss the reward in person.

The shrimp soldier sighed: "You mermaids only have one fry who's still alive and well, why suffer like this? Soul Gathering Pearls aren't easy to borrow. I remember hundreds or even many years ago, a powerful cultivator came to borrow one, and he was half dead when he left."

"Please inform them."

"Oh well, never mind, I'll go ask for you."

The shrimp soldier returned quickly, saying that the Dragon King had agreed to see him.

It wasn't surprising. The Dragon King knew perfectly well that he had dealt with the demon seed as soon as he returned, and had long wanted to ask him about it.

But the little mermaid grabbed her people and ran away. Her men couldn't stop her, and once she got ashore, she was completely lifeless and couldn't be found. The Dragon King was too ashamed to personally intervene, so he just let her run around outside.

When Di Xiu was brought before the Dragon King, there was another person standing next to the latter. He was a genuine human, and his appearance was outstanding among humans. He was gentle and had a touch of evil in his demeanor. He was curiously looking at the mermaid who had entered.

His gaze lingered particularly long on the mermaid's face and tail, his eyebrows slightly raised, a suggestive smile playing on his lips. The Dragon King noticed this, his face darkened, and he sent him away to rest.

Yokai don't imitate humans when they transform, but rather ancient deities as a sign of respect. However, throughout history, most yokai still prefer their original forms, and even when they transform, they deliberately retain their racial characteristics.

The Dragon King is the only one Di Xiu has seen who appears in human form. He has a domineering appearance and temperament, but his clothing style is still ancient.

Once only the two of them remained, the Dragon King looked down at the little mermaid below, his voice carrying an air of authority: "Mermaid Tide, are you borrowing the Soul Gathering Pearl to revive your people?"

"yes."

Although the mission doesn't mandate seeing one's family, since resurrection exists in this world, Di Xiu wouldn't mind spending some time resurrecting his mother. As for how many of the other fish can be saved, that remains to be seen.
