Chapter 271 The Fox Spirit Who Repays a Kindness (14)

At the foot of the mountain, the situation is changing rapidly.

After the ghostly energy entered the bodies of those hundred or so people, including the dead ones, they all rolled their eyes back, flailed their limbs wildly, and then charged toward the various demons in a ghostly manner. Some of them even came to protect the masked man.

The formation completely dissipated, and the demons used various methods to angrily kill these people. However, after a short while, their eyes showed fear.

These people, whether human or ghost, alive or dead, were completely fearless and painless. Even with their heads gone, they could still get up with a ghostly aura, brandishing their knives wildly, which stunned this group of unsophisticated demons.

Seeing that they couldn't kill them, one of the vine demons retreated repeatedly, controlling countless vines to grow from the ground, entangle and trap them in place.

Some of the broken pieces were woven into nets and pressed to the ground.

Seeing this, the masked man felt a surge of resentment, wondering who had leaked the secret and caused him to end up in this predicament.

With defeat inevitable, he bit his finger and smeared the blood on his whisk, shouting "Stop them!" as he released the remaining ghosts from the whisk.

Just as the moon was high in the sky and midnight had arrived, the yin energy was at its peak. All the "people" let out a long howl in unison, their bodies emanating a chilling ghostly aura. In addition, the continuous stream of mournful cries from the whisks pierced through the ears, and the ghostly aura obscured the moonlight, turning the surroundings into an inky black.

Above the ghostly aura, thunderclouds suddenly gathered, but everyone and the demons were focused on each other and did not notice.

The masked man released the horde of ghosts all at once, not caring about the loss, and tried to escape in the chaos.

Then, at that moment, a bright streak suddenly appeared in the darkness, piercing the masked man's heart with lightning speed, then abruptly stopping at an illogical pace, before turning back and passing through his head again, leaving another bright streak before disappearing into the dark forest.

Before the demons could react, before the masked man could dodge, before the blood mist could be released, even the lightning, which reacts fastest in the sky, only managed to rumble before losing its target halfway through its strike and then helplessly striking the vast expanse of ghostly energy, clearing away a patch of clean sky.

The thunder paused for a moment, as if only then realizing the many wronged souls present, before unleashing another thunderbolt that struck straight into the underworld, causing even the Ten Kings of Hell to tremble.

The Ten Kings of Hell hurriedly sent out ghost messengers to investigate. Several ghost messengers were terrified when they saw the scene and knew they couldn't solve it, so they quickly called for more people. In the end, a total of forty or fifty ghost messengers came up, and even Black Impermanence was called over.

Led by Hei Wuchang, eight ghost messengers chased after the out-of-control ghosts who had scattered in all directions. The others were left to catch those who hadn't managed to escape. In the end, the soul-snatching ropes were strung with incomplete and delirious ghosts before the world was cleaned up.

The other ghost messengers returned to the underworld to report, and Black Impermanence came over to ask the group of demons about the whole story. The mountain demons themselves were completely confused. The demons, one after another, managed to explain what had happened that day, and even pointed to the culprit who was dead on the ground.

Black Impermanence looked at the person they were pointing to.

The original mask had a hole in it along with the head. It cracked open when the masked man fell to the ground, revealing his true face underneath. However, the bloody hole was right between his eyebrows and eyes, ruining his original appearance. For a moment, apart from noticing that he was surprisingly young, no one could tell what his nose or eyes looked like.

Black Impermanence reached out and grasped, and the mourning staff appeared out of thin air. He struck the masked man on the head, and a soul was shaken out of his body. It still retained its appearance before death and tried to escape again, but the soul-snatching rope wrapped around its neck. It screamed in agony, and black mist rippled from its neck.

As the chains tightened, the hole in the masked man's face quickly healed, the bloodstains disappeared rapidly, revealing a handsome and refined face. Paired with this ink-wash robe, he did indeed have the air of an immortal. However, the excessive fear and hatred on his face ruined his image.

Black Impermanence stared intently at him, his face grim, and said, word by word, "So it was you who was causing this trouble."

Several demons, upon hearing the inside story, suspected that it might be a ghost released from the underworld, but even though they were mountain demons, they dared not speak recklessly in front of Wuchang, a righteous god of the underworld.

"This matter was an oversight on my part in the underworld. Once the matter is investigated, I, Fan, will give everyone an explanation."

The fairies quickly said they didn't deserve it.

"Do you have anything to add regarding the light?"

The little boy didn't participate much in the fighting; he was mostly just a troublemaker, immediately burrowing underground and running out of range when the ghostly aura appeared.

Upon hearing this, he thought for a moment, then concealed the voice that resembled that of the red fox and weakly recounted what he had witnessed: "When that guy released the black aura, I saw thunderclouds gathering in the sky. I felt that it wasn't aimed at that guy, but rather it was chasing after that bright light. It seemed to have moved as it gathered."

Black Impermanence remained silent for a moment, then looked down at him: "Do you remember where that light came from?"

The little boy, feeling intimidated by his gaze, hid behind the mandrill: "I didn't notice, but everyone saw it go into the mountains when it left."

Are there any other powerful demons in your mountains?

The wolf demon quickly replied, "No, all those capable of transforming are here."

The mandrill paused, thinking of the red fox. Unsure if the fox had any other hidden abilities, it decided to remain silent after much deliberation.

"Has the thundercloud moved again?"

"I didn't notice that."

Black Impermanence asked some more questions and told the mountain demon to keep the mountain spirits from wandering around for a while, and to drag the souls chained in his hands into the underworld first.

The moon shines bright and clear.

The ghosts and their messengers had vanished, leaving behind only eleven bewildered demons and a pile of scattered corpses.

When the ghostly energy entered their bodies, those who were originally full of life all died. The vine demon sighed, dragged them into the ground with its vines, and buried them on the spot.

The mandrill returned to the mountain exhausted with the other fairies. Looking at the group of fairies who seemed oblivious to all sorrow and had collapsed, he felt a mix of emotions.

When Di Xiu saw them return, he yawned, jumped off the low chair, and asked, "How did it go?"

"You didn't use your demonic senses to see?" The mandrill reverted to human form and tried to pick him up to see if there was anything special about him, but was stomped on the face with a claw.

Emperor Xiu: Annoying, why is there no boundary to this mountain demon?

The mountain demon told the wolf demons to return to their respective dens and told God to go to the house at the back.

"Red Fox, what's your name?"

"Hu Sibai".
