[This chapter depicts a war between vampires and blood hunters. It's purely based on the author's imagination, so feel free to enjoy it as a personal musing. Please be gentle with your criticism.]
Three hundred years ago, vampires ran rampant. Humans fought back for survival, and everyone hunted vampires, exchanging rivers of blood for three hundred years of superficial peace.
As a result, Blood Hunters are now rare, numbering only a little over two thousand.
But what they had to face was a gathering of vampires, twice as many as they were. In fact, this was not all the vampires; for example, two princes were still asleep.
However, the Blood Hunters are not without a chance of winning, especially since they are well-prepared this time, have taken the initiative, seized the upper hand, and have eliminated or deterred traitors, so they will not be betrayed while facing external threats.
Vampires are fast, but except for a few with special talents, they cannot teleport. The Blood Hunters occupy this castle, using defense as offense, leaving their backs to their companions, and only need to focus on dealing with the enemy outside the window.
But even the most powerful Blood Hunters couldn't help but feel nervous when faced with an enemy that seemed to blot out the sky and the moon.
Their average age was less than fifty, none of them had witnessed the great war three hundred years ago, and most of them had seen no more than a dozen vampires before this day. The number they obtained from the investigation was already shocking enough, but they did not expect that the actual number was far more than they had imagined.
Di Xiu used his spiritual power to send a message, ordering all the blood hunters to prepare. He then leaped out of the window, rode the wind up the outer wall, and stood at the highest point of the castle in the blink of an eye.
The vampires came from all directions. In the darkness, one could see pairs of blood-red eyes and stark white fangs. They flew at an extremely fast speed, one second they were a thousand meters away, and the next second they were within five hundred meters.
Ten thousand sword shadows fell simultaneously. Emperor Xiu skipped the pre-battle trash talk, divided his mind, bit his index finger, and drew a talisman in the air with his blood. Purple lightning followed closely behind and fell without warning.
Instantly, many vampires began to stagger, but those who took the lead were the stronger ones. These were merely distractions to them. However, the lightning that followed struck many who couldn't dodge in time and knocked them to the ground. The weaker ones were instantly reduced to ashes.
Amidst the thunder, it seemed as if some vampires were shouting something, and one could vaguely hear words like "breach of contract," "take it seriously," and "shameless."
All the blood hunters were momentarily stunned by this scene, and then a fire seemed to burn in their hearts. Looking at the vampires, they vaguely felt that these nemesis were not so difficult to deal with after all.
The guns were already loaded with bullets, and for the first time ever, they took up silver longswords. If any vampires tried to get close by avoiding the hail of bullets, they would be met head-on by the longswords.
The vampires deeply resented him, their new leader. He had severely injured Prince Locke and a descendant of the Zhong family, giving him a double advantage. And with him standing so conspicuously, he immediately became the target of their attacks.
Di Xiu wielded a peach wood sword to meet the attack, while Catherine and the puppet worked together seamlessly, aided by other vampires in the assault.
He used the Ten Thousand Swords Return to Origin technique again, and his spiritual energy, which he had been recovering from all afternoon, was severely depleted once more. However, he remained calm and, relying on his superb swordsmanship, managed to keep the vampires who were besieging him at a loss. Instead, he restrained them and prevented them from posing a danger to the blood hunters in the castle.
The vampires considered themselves powerful, but they truly lacked the ability to destroy castles, especially Prince Scott's castle, which was hailed as the vampires' most solid fortification. They could only follow the design of the Emperor and attack the castle through its doors and windows.
Some vampires have the ability to teleport, but as soon as they enter, they are shot down by free agents every ten steps. These agents are among the most accurate marksmen, each with two guns, ready to support nearby precarious positions at any time.
On Emperor Xiu's side, Catherine and the puppet worked together seamlessly, launching a frenzied attack that caused him considerable trouble. However, every time he tried to use a talisman, it was always contaminated by the blood of the other blood clansmen who were eyeing him covetously, so that it was ineffective by the time it reached them.
When dealing with other blood hunters, they aim for close combat, but this time, it seems they've agreed to avoid close combat if they can maintain ranged distance.
Emperor Xiu was waiting for a breakthrough opportunity, and that opportunity soon arrived.
Lightning suddenly struck a window near the rooftop. One of the vampires, who was standing on the side, had half his body instantly wiped out by the lightning. The blood whip in his palm went out of control, and the impenetrable barrier was exposed.
As the other vampires stepped forward to fill the gap, Emperor Xiu took the opportunity to activate the Blazing Sun Talisman in his palm. All the vampires were forced back by the scorching light of the extreme sun. Another talisman filled with unstable energy flew out and affixed to the puppet that knew no fear and did not retreat. Emperor Xiu himself, however, did not linger in the fight and immediately retreated.
The Explosive Flame Talisman, the result of his four attempts to blow up the office, is not very stable.
"boom--"
A corner of the roof collapsed, but fortunately the Blood Hunters below had already retreated in unison when they threw out the Five Thunder Talismans, and didn't have time to return to their positions, otherwise they might have been accidentally injured.
Di Xiu hastily said, "I'll guard this place," and then charged towards the two nearest vampires, braving the residual heat of the Explosive Flame Talisman. His sword rose and fell, flames burned, and a handful of ashes fell.
His displayed strength was so superhuman that it aroused the fear of even more vampires. Catherine let out a shriek, and immediately more vampires abandoned the window and surrounded him.
The Blood Hunter, who was preparing to support other positions, subconsciously raised his gun and began shooting at the vampires. He then threw out a Five Thunder Talisman, which blasted down a group of flying vampires.
The former leader glanced over in the midst of his busy schedule and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Position 2, support the leader!"
The pressure eased slightly, and people immediately moved out to the positions. Three of them were given special bullets by Emperor Xiu. At this moment, they had a gun in each hand. The gun in their left hand was used carefully and steadily, specifically targeting the fifth-generation vampires. The gun in their right hand kept firing. They could basically hit the vampires with their eyes closed. With a bit of luck, they could take one down directly.
Di Xiu roughly estimated the number of talismans on his body and noticed that someone had climbed onto the ruins under the cover of other blood hunters and thrown out a water ball. He immediately made a plan.
A wind-summoning talisman caught the scattered water spheres, spinning them rapidly. In an instant, it transformed into a holy water tornado, scattering all the flying vampires to pieces. Water droplets turned into round bullets, striking each unsuspecting vampire and leaving wounds that could not heal on their own.
Upon seeing this, the Blood Hunters who were providing support immediately grabbed the nearby Holy Water Orbs and threw them into the storm.
This made it easier for Di Xiu to take action. He ordered everyone to retreat and threw out another Five Thunder Talisman, controlling it within a small area, thus multiplying its power.
Suddenly, a scarred claw emerged from the storm. Di Xiu dodged it and met Catherine in the face.
“Despicable humans, you have harmed my fellow vampires, you deserve to die.”
Emperor Xiu remained unmoved by her angry words. Feeling the slight recovery of his spiritual power, he decisively channeled it into his legs, instantly increasing his speed and surpassing that of the vampires.
The ordinary peach wood sword suddenly unleashed a sharp sword light, carrying an indescribable unstoppable force, whistling through the wind and piercing through Catherine's defenses, but it failed to hit her heart.
Di Xiu had no intention of letting Catherine escape the sword. He moved closer, the sword angled, and aimed straight for her right atrium.
Catherine froze, her eyes wide, and murmured, "How did you know my heart is on the right side?"
The second prince died.
