Chapter 129 Promoting Childbirth
Lu Mingyue looked up at Huo Zheng, a smile in her eyes: "We understand, Mom, Aunt, we'll consider it."
Huo Zheng laughed along, "Don't worry, when the time is right, I'll definitely give you a little grandson."
It was late at night, and the children were all fast asleep. Huo Zheng carried a basin of steaming hot water into the inner room and placed it at Lu Mingyue's feet: "Come on, soak your feet. It's good for your wounds and can also relieve fatigue."
Lu Mingyue sat on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed). As soon as she put her feet into the water, she was enveloped by the warm water, and her blistered heels didn't hurt so much anymore.
Huo Zheng squatted down beside her, gently massaging her ankle, as if afraid of touching the wound: "You must be exhausted today, with the Great Wall and entertaining guests."
Lu Mingyue smiled and shook her head: "With you here, I'm not tired."
Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door, followed by Yao Yao's soft voice: "Mommy, can I come in?"
Lu Mingyue quickly replied, "Come in, Yao Yao."
The door opened, and Yao Yao, wearing her pajamas, walked in, rubbing her eyes. She went straight to Lu Mingyue, hugged her arm, and said sweetly, "Mommy, I want to sleep with you."
Lu Mingyue patted her head: "Why don't you sleep with Grandma anymore?"
Yao Yao snuggled closer to her mother and said, "I miss my mom."
She glanced at Lu Mingyue soaking her feet, then looked at Huo Zheng, and suddenly looked up at her with a serious expression, asking, "Mommy, Auntie said you're going to have a baby for me, is that true?"
Lu Mingyue paused for a moment, then smiled: "Do you want a baby?"
Yao Yao nodded vigorously: "Yes, I want a little sister so I can play with her and share my dolls with her."
Huo Zheng laughed and reached out to gently pinch Yao Yao's little nose: "What if it's a younger brother?"
Yao Yao patted her chest and said, "I like little brothers too. I can sing to the baby and feed him."
Looking at her daughter's serious expression, Lu Mingyue felt a warmth in her heart.
After soaking her feet, Huo Zheng helped her dry them, and Yao Yao crawled into her bed, hugging her arm tightly: "Mommy, I'm waiting for the baby to come."
Before long, she fell asleep with sweet anticipation.
Huo Zheng tucked the blanket around him, looked at Lu Mingyue and Yao Yao's sleeping faces, and said softly, "Look, the children are all looking forward to it."
The two of them had discussed having a child. Lu Mingyue wasn't ready to have a baby yet, and having a painless pregnancy was a good option.
Urged by her elders, Lu Mingyue was wavering, but these things couldn't be rushed; she should just let things take their course.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, Yao Yao climbed out of bed, rubbing her sleepy eyes, and ran to Zhong Yulan's room in her little cotton shoes.
Zhong Yulan had just finished cooking the porridge for breakfast when she saw Yao Yao run in. She smiled and put down her needlework, saying, "Oh, why is our Yao Yao up so early?"
Yao Yao rushed into Zhong Yulan's arms, looked up at her with her little face, and asked earnestly, "Grandma, when will Mommy give me a baby? I told Mommy yesterday that I want to be a big sister and take care of the little sister."
Zhong Yulan was taken aback for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh out loud, reaching out to tap her little forehead: "You child, how can you remember so well? The baby won't arrive so quickly."
"How long will it take?" Yao Yao frowned, counting on her fingers. "One day? Two days? Or three days?"
Zhong Yulan was amused even more by her words: "It will take several months. You have to be patient and give your mother more good food so that the baby can grow faster."
Just then, Lu Mingyue and Huo Zheng walked into the house and overheard the conversation between the grandmother and granddaughter. Lu Mingyue blushed slightly and said with a smile, "Yaoyao, why are you asking this so early in the morning?"
When Yao Yao saw her, she immediately jumped down from Zhong Yulan's arms, ran to her side, and shook her hand, saying, "Mommy, I want the baby to come quickly!"
Huo Zheng also smiled and came over: "Then you have to eat well from now on and not be picky about food, so that when the baby comes, it will be as well-behaved as you."
As they were talking, Leilei nodded in agreement: "I want to be a big brother too, so I can teach my little sister to play shuttlecock."
The children's words amused everyone in the room. Zhong Yulan came in carrying freshly steamed buns and said with a smile, "Alright, alright, let's eat. After we finish eating, your dad will take you to play at the entrance of the alley."
Yao Yao, however, persisted, sitting next to Lu Mingyue and whispering, "Mommy, you must give me a baby soon!"
Lu Mingyue had secretly imagined that when she was pressured to have children in the future, her in-laws would probably nag her, saying things like "it's good to recover while you're young" and "many children bring many blessings." She even rehearsed her responses in her mind several times.
But to her utter surprise, the first person to urge her to have a baby was not an elder, but her own daughter, Yao Yao.
Ever since she asked Zhong Yulan that morning, Yao Yao seemed to have received a new mission, and she spent all her time revolving around Lu Mingyue.
During meals, she would put an egg from her bowl into Lu Mingyue's bowl, saying, "Mommy, you eat the egg, little baby likes to eat it."
Lu Mingyue smiled and pushed it back: "Yaoyao, eat it. Mommy has some."
She frowned and said seriously, "No, my aunt said you need to eat more so you can have a baby."
When playing in the yard, if Yao Yao sees the neighbor's baby being carried out, she will pull Lu Mingyue's hand and run over, squat down and watch for a long time, and then shake her arm when they come back.
"Mommy, look how cute that little baby is! When will our baby come?"
Unable to answer the question, Lu Mingyue could only say, "Soon, soon, when Yao Yao grows a little taller."
Even before going to bed at night, Yao Yao would remind her, "Mom, you have to sleep well tonight and don't kick off the blankets, the baby will get cold in your tummy."
Lu Mingyue was both amused and exasperated, while Huo Zheng suppressed a laugh. Once Yao Yao was sound asleep, he leaned close to her ear and said, "Look at our daughter, she's even more anxious than her mother."
Lu Mingyue leaned on his shoulder, feeling both helpless and amused: "I used to be afraid of my in-laws pressuring me to have children, but now, here comes a little pressure officer."
Afraid that she would run to ask Zhong Yulan or her aunt again and cause more funny incidents for the whole family, they could only patiently coax her each time: "Yaoyao, be good, don't rush."
She held Yao Yao's little hand and said earnestly, "Baby needs to grow up slowly, just like you grew from a tiny infant to this tall person. It will take some time."
Yao Yao seemed to understand but not quite, her little brows still furrowed: "How long will it take? I can't wait to be a big sister."
Lu Mingyue smiled and gently pinched her little nose: "By the time you learn to tie your own shoelaces, the baby might be coming."
Yao Yao's eyes lit up immediately, and she skipped and hopped to get her shoes: "Then I'll learn now, Mom, you teach me."
Huo Zheng, watching from the side, couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Your trick really works. It's much better than reasoning with her."
Lu Mingyue shook her head helplessly: "What else can we do? We can't let her keep asking every day, or even the neighbors will find out."
