Chapter 148 Pregnancy
"I'm home!" Leilei shouted as he entered the house.
Yao Yao quickly stopped him, "Brother, keep your voice down, Mom is still sleeping."
Leilei was very surprised. He had never seen his mother sleep at this time before. He was a little worried. Could it be that his mother was not feeling well again?
The scene of his mother being sick a while ago flashed before his eyes, and his little face scrunched up.
He ran into the house, quietly pushed open the bedroom door, and walked lightly to the bedside. He carefully observed and confirmed that his mother's complexion was normal and she did not have a fever before he felt relieved.
Lu Mingyue slowly opened her eyes and was startled to see him leaning against the headboard. "Leilei's out of school? Why so early?"
"No, Mom, it's the same time as before."
Lu Mingyue took a look at her watch and realized it was already past five o'clock. She had actually slept for two or three hours.
For some reason, she's been feeling drowsy and weak lately.
"I'm sorry, Mom overslept and forgot to pick you up. Are you hungry? I'll go make some food right away," Lu Mingyue said as she got up.
Leilei shook his head, "It's okay, Mom, I can come back by myself. You need to take care of yourself and rest, don't overwork yourself. I'll go to the cafeteria to get food."
Lu Mingyue stretched her shoulders, still feeling a bit tired, and planned to have Huo Zheng massage them to relax when he came back in the evening.
Hearing Leilei's words, she readily agreed. Cooking every day was also a brain-racking task, and she didn't know what to cook for the children.
When Leilei went to the cafeteria to get food, he took his lunchbox with him and his sister. Lu Mingyue was still yawning when the two siblings left the house.
The canteen is not far from the family compound, but it was lunchtime, and it took the brother and sister more than ten minutes to get back. Lu Mingyue had already set out the bowls and chopsticks.
On the way, Huo Zheng met the children and went to get their meals together. He carried his lunchbox in, followed by the two siblings.
He placed the lunchbox on the table, looked at Lu Mingyue with concern, and asked, "I heard from the children that you weren't feeling well today. Have you caught a cold? Let's go to the hospital."
"I don't have a cold." She had just taken her temperature, and it was normal. "I guess she's just tired. She'll be fine after a little more sleep."
Huo Zheng was still worried, so he decided to take her to the hospital after dinner. It was still early, and there were staff on duty at the hospital.
Lu Mingyue had no choice but to agree.
During the meal, the two children kept piling food into their mother's bowl, urging her to eat more. In the end, Lu Mingyue did not disappoint her children and ate a full bowl and a half before stopping. Touching her bulging belly, she slumped in her chair, truly stuffed.
Huo Zheng washed the dishes and chopsticks, took the money and tickets, and told the two children to wait at home. He instructed Leilei to do his homework, "I need to go to the hospital with Mom. Can you stay home and study with your sister?"
Huo Zheng squatted down to look Lei Lei in the eye and extended his fist.
Leilei looked at his father with a determined look in his eyes, "Dad, I can do it. You can go with Mom without worry. We'll wait for you to come back at home."
Huo Zheng rode his bicycle and took Lu Mingyue to the hospital.
After asking them questions, the doctor noticed something was off about their expressions and looked them up and down. "Are you two a couple?"
Lu Mingyue exchanged a puzzled look with Huo Zheng. "Of course, doctor. What does this have to do with whether we're husband and wife?"
The doctor smiled knowingly and asked the nurse to take Lu Mingyue for a check-up.
Huo Zheng's eyes were full of worry as he comforted Lu Mingyue, "Don't worry, I'll wait for you to come back. Just call me if anything happens."
Since Lu Mingyue left, Huo Zheng has been restless in his office, completely unlike his usual calm and composed self.
The doctor looked at him and smiled, "Comrade, don't be nervous. Sit down and rest for a while. It might turn out well."
The doctor's ambiguous statement made Huo Zheng even more uneasy; he knew he needed to do more tests to be sure.
Lu Mingyue returned quickly, holding a medical report in her hand.
In the examination room, the doctor looked at the test results for a long time, then smiled and said, "There's nothing seriously wrong, you're just pregnant, almost two months along. Just be careful to rest more and don't overwork yourself."
"Pregnant?!" Lu Mingyue froze on the spot, her hand unconsciously touching her lower abdomen, as if she couldn't believe her ears.
Although she was mentally prepared on the way there, the moment she heard the doctor say she was pregnant, her chest felt as if it were filled with joy.
Huo Zheng was even more excited than her, grabbing the doctor's arm. "Doctor, what did you say? My wife is pregnant? You're not mistaken, are you?"
His voice trembled, and his eyes widened. Leilei and Yaoyao were already several years old. Since he and Lu Mingyue got married, it was impossible for him not to hope for children. But this surprise came too suddenly, leaving him somewhat at a loss.
The doctor was amused by his reaction. "That's right, it's good that all the indicators are normal, but she does have a slight cold. I'll prescribe some medicine for her to take for two days and she'll be fine. Just be careful not to do any heavy work."
Huo Zheng nodded repeatedly. When he pulled Lu Mingyue out of the clinic, his steps were a little unsteady, and the corners of his mouth were turned up high.
Once they reached a secluded spot, he picked Lu Mingyue up in his arms and said, "Wife, I'm so happy."
Lu Mingyue was startled by his actions, but when she saw his smile, she couldn't help but feel a sweet warmth in her heart. It seemed that he was also looking forward to the arrival of the child.
Back home, Huo Zheng couldn't help but shout, "Leilei and Yaoyao, Daddy has good news to tell you!"
Hearing the noise, Leilei ran out quickly, looked up at his father, and asked, "Dad, what's the good news?"
Huo Zheng squatted down, pulled the two children to his side, and said with barely suppressed joy, "Your mother is pregnant. You'll have a little brother or sister in the future."
Leilei's eyes lit up, and he jumped up, "Really? I'm going to have a younger brother or sister? I can play games with her!"
Yao Yao tugged at her mother's clothes, very happy. Her New Year's wish had finally come true. "Mommy, will the baby play with me?"
Lu Mingyue patted the children's heads, "Yes, when the babies grow up, they can play with you."
Before going to bed that night, Lu Mingyue got up to wash up. Huo Zheng picked up the basin first, mixed warm water, and put a coarse cloth at the bottom of the basin to prevent her from slipping and tripping.
"I can do it myself, I'm not some delicate person." Lu Mingyue smiled and reached for it, but Huo Zheng dodged her.
“You’re pregnant now, so you can’t be careless.” He carried the basin into the house, walking very slowly. Lu Mingyue followed behind, feeling both annoyed and amused by his tense posture.
The living room floor was wet and a bit slippery. Huo Zheng put down the basin first, swept the floor clean, and made sure there were no water stains before turning around and beckoning to Mingyue, "Come on, it's clean now, it's not worth it."
Lu Mingyue walked over and was about to bend down to wash her face when Huo Zheng quickly stopped her, saying, "Slow down, don't bend over too hard, I'll help you wash."
