Chapter 156 Audition
As soon as summer vacation arrived, Leilei and Yaoyao were like wild horses, running around the family compound with their friends every day.
But under the scorching sun, the two children lost their enthusiasm for going out and playing, and stayed at home with Lu Mingyue every day.
The fan in the main room turned slowly, blowing out gusts of cool air.
Lu Mingyue sat on a bamboo chair sewing small clothes for the baby in her belly. The stitches were fine and soft.
Leilei lay on the small table next to him, flipping through comic books one moment and handing spools of thread to Lu Mingyue the next.
Yao Yao hugged her doll and curled up at Lu Mingyue's feet, listening to her tell stories from the past, occasionally interjecting to ask when her little sister would come out.
In the afternoon, Lu Mingyue brought out the mung bean soup that had been chilled in advance.
The mung beans in the porcelain bowl were cooked until soft and tender, and the soup was clear. Taking a sip, the sweet coolness slid from the throat to the heart, and the summer heat instantly dissipated.
Yao Yao held the bowl and drank in small sips, not forgetting to scoop a spoonful for Lu Mingyue: "Mom, you drink too, this is so sweet!"
Leilei was looking forward to finding Xiaoman to go fishing together when it was cooler in the afternoon.
He caught a lot of small crabs a couple of days ago, and after frying them and sprinkling them with chili powder, they were incredibly delicious.
Even after the children were on holiday, their swimming training was not delayed. Since Huo Zheng was sometimes not home, this task was handed over to Lu Mingyue.
Lu Mingyue took Leilei and Yaoyao to the beach to swim, and she found a spot in the shallow water.
It makes it convenient for children to practice while also avoiding risks.
Not long after they arrived, Zheng Qiuhua brought Niu Niu over: "Mingyue, I heard you came to swim, so I brought Niu Niu to learn too. It'll be good for Leilei to have a companion."
Leilei was having a great time swimming when he saw Niuniu coming, so he took the initiative to teach him how to hold his breath.
"Learn from me, take a deep breath, put your head in the water, and don't be afraid."
Yao Yao was also in the shallow water, splashing around with Niu Niu.
Lu Mingyue sat under the shade of a tree, watching the three children playing happily. She held a thermos in her hand and occasionally called them up to have a drink of water.
Suddenly, a man in a white shirt walked towards the poolside, holding a notebook in his hand, and looked at Lu Mingyue with a gentle smile.
"Hello, my name is Hua Shaokang, and I'm a director. I'm currently casting child actors for a children's film in this area. I just saw your child swimming and he was very energetic. I was wondering if you'd be interested in letting your child try it out?"
Lu Mingyue paused for a moment, then subconsciously looked at the children swimming. The children stopped when they saw a stranger approaching and looked over curiously.
Zheng Qiuhua asked hesitantly, "Making a movie? Is it true? Won't it interfere with the child's studies?"
Hua Shaokang quickly explained, "We will schedule the filming during the holidays so it won't affect our studies. We mainly want to find some cheerful and talented kids who don't need to have any acting experience; they can just play themselves."
If you'd like, I can leave my contact information, and I'll contact you again if there's an audition notification.
Lu Mingyue thought for a moment, took the note handed to her by Hua Shaokang, and then looked at Leilei, who was eager to try.
The child's eyes were full of curiosity, but he didn't dare to speak.
She smiled and said to Hua Shaokang, "Thank you for the invitation. We'll go back and discuss it with our family, and we'll contact you again if we have any ideas."
Hua Shaokang nodded, waved to the children, and then turned to leave.
Watching him walk away, Zheng Qiuhua took Lu Mingyue's hand and said, "Mingyue, do you think this is a good idea? If we can really make a movie, it will be a special experience for the child."
Lu Mingyue smiled and shook her head: "Don't rush, let's talk to Huo Zheng when he gets back, and then we can discuss it slowly."
When Huo Zheng returned from training in the evening, he saw Lu Mingyue busy in the kitchen as soon as he entered the door, with Leilei and Yaoyao around her, chattering about what happened by the pool that afternoon.
"Dad! Today a director uncle said he wants to make a movie with us!" Yao Yao ran over first, excitedly grabbing Huo Zheng's hand.
Huo Zheng paused for a moment, put down his training bag and went to the kitchen. Lu Mingyue handed him the freshly steamed rice before slowly telling him about what happened that afternoon.
"The director's name is Hua Shaokang. He said he was casting child actors for a children's film. He saw that the child was energetic while swimming, so he gave us his contact information and asked if we would like to let the child give it a try."
Huo Zheng sipped his mung bean soup, his brows furrowing slightly: "Making a movie? We don't know much about this industry. What if something goes wrong? We don't want to make the child suffer."
"And the child is still young. What if the shoot gets too tiring, or if they encounter unsuitable scenes?"
His first thought wasn't about the opportunity, but about the children's safety and well-being, since Leilei and Yaoyao were still young and couldn't withstand any hardship.
Lu Mingyue knew his concerns and nodded, saying, "That's what I was thinking too, so I didn't agree immediately. I said I'd discuss it with you when I got back."
But judging from Leilei's expression, he seemed quite interested. He even asked me earlier if I could wear nice clothes like in TV dramas when I'm making a movie.
Huo Zheng turned to look at the living room, where Lei Lei was holding the note the director had given him, looking at it under the light with curiosity in his eyes.
He put down his bowl, walked over and sat down next to Leilei, gently patting his head: "Son, do you want to make movies?"
Leilei looked up, a little embarrassed, and said, "I'd like to, but I don't know if I'll be able to film it."
Seeing his son's sensible manner, Huo Zheng's heart softened, and his tone became much gentler: "It's not that Dad doesn't want you to go, it's just that I'm worried you'll be wronged."
If you really want to give it a try, I'll first ask this person if they're reliable, then we'll contact the director to find out the shooting time, content, and whether it will affect your rest.
If everything is suitable and you're willing, your father and mother will support you; if you don't want to go, we won't force you, okay?
Leilei's eyes lit up, and he nodded vigorously: "Okay! Thank you, Dad!"
Yao Yao chimed in, "Dad, if my brother goes, I want to go too! Can I take pictures with him?"
Huo Zheng laughed and picked her up: "Okay, if you go to the audition, I'll take both of you with me, so the director can see how cute our Yao Yao is."
Huo Zheng quickly found out that "this person is from Hong Kong. I heard that his family has been in the film industry for generations. He is a wealthy man, and his films are indeed quite good. Several of the movies we've seen were directed by him."
Hearing him say that, Lu Mingyue remembered it and felt relieved. She then discussed with the children about going to the audition.
The family compound was unusually lively on the day of the audition.
Besides Leilei, Yaoyao, and Niuniu, several other neighbors also brought their children along after hearing about it, hoping to let their kids try their luck.
After all, this is one of the few opportunities to get close to the screen, and everyone is especially excited at the thought of seeing familiar people in the movie.
Lu Mingyue stayed with the two children, and Zheng Qiuhua also stood by to encourage Niu Niu.
