Chapter 3 Reporting My Stepsister

Chapter 3 Reporting My Stepsister

After Huo Zheng escorted Lu Mingyue back to her family home, he quickly left.

It was during rest time, and many people were sitting downstairs basking in the sun.

Upon seeing Lu Mingyue emerge, the group immediately perked up.

Everyone knew that Hu Sanbao from the director's family was pursuing Lu Mingyue, so they stopped her with amusement.

Where did Mingyue go?

"Judging from what you're saying, you must have gone to date Sanbao."

"Really? That's great news. We'll be able to attend your wedding soon, and your mother will be at peace in heaven."

"......"

The aunties and older women continued talking to themselves, completely ignoring whether Lu Mingyue spoke or not.

In their eyes, Lu Mingyue was a mute who couldn't be coaxed out of her. Ever since her mother died, she seemed to have changed, remaining silent all day long.

If she had inherited her mother's intelligence and looks, she would have been left to fend for herself in a corner long ago, and she would never have become an accountant.

Their words contained ridicule, pity, and schadenfreude.

Lu Mingyue glanced at them indifferently, then turned her attention to the person who had said the most offensive thing, and parted her red lips slightly.

"Aunt Liu, I heard that your son is with Widow Qin from the next street, and their child is already four months old. I wonder what kind of gift you, as the grandmother, sent over."

Aunt Liu's hand trembled, and the winnowing basket fell to the ground. She looked at Lu Mingyue with a panicked expression. How could she know that her son was with Widow Qin!

Sensing the onlookers' gazes, Aunt Liu shuddered and immediately burst into a tirade: "What nonsense are you spouting, you little brat? You're so bluffing, but you think you can intimidate me? Believe me or not, I'll slap you twice."

Lu Mingyue's eyes reddened, and tears fell easily. "Aunt Liu, although I'm young, I know I can't just say things carelessly. You're just making things up. I swear in front of everyone that I'm dating Hu Sanbao. Do you dare?"

Aunt Liu certainly wouldn't dare; what if she said something she shouldn't, and her future grandson found out?

"If you guys don't believe me, just go to my aunt's house and see for yourselves."

Aunt Liu panicked. Her son had just brought the woman surnamed Qin back home. If they really went to their house, wouldn't they be exposed?

She panicked immediately, and without bothering to confront Lu Mingyue, she ran home.

The others, seeing her like this, probably thought it was true.

"Mingyue, how do you know that Aunt Liu's son and Widow Qin are getting together?"

How did Lu Mingyue find out?

Of course, it was the system that told her that Aunt Liu wanted to wait until Widow Qin gave birth to the child before sending her away immediately.

"I heard it from the aunties."

Lu Mingyue left a message and went upstairs, leaving the others standing there looking at each other in bewilderment.

When Lu Mingyue returned home, she found Meng Xiaoling sitting in the living room.

Upon seeing her return, Meng Xiaoling immediately stepped forward and questioned, "Where did you go? Why was your room locked?"

And why is Huo Zheng nowhere to be found?

This last question is what Meng Xiaoling most wanted to ask.

Lu Mingyue's eyes were devoid of warmth, but her gaze towards Meng Xiaoling was filled with anger.

"Meng Xiaoling, your plan didn't work out. Are you very unhappy?"

Meng Xiaoling's heart tightened, and she pretended to be clueless, saying, "I don't know what you're talking about."

How could Lu Mingyue know that she did it!

Where exactly did they slip up?

When she chased after her friend from her house, the friend was nowhere to be found, and it took her a lot of effort to find her.

To keep quiet, Meng Xiaoling spent ten yuan to treat the other party to a meal.

Keep in mind that was her food money for a month.

It's all Lu Mingyue's fault. She went crazy for no reason. She dared to frame her. She should know her own limitations.

As long as I don't admit it, who will know that I hid the evidence in the rice jar?

[Host, Meng Xiaoling hid the evidence in the rice jar.]

Lu Mingyue's lips curled into a smile. "Let me guess if someone didn't wipe their butt clean enough?"

"What do you mean? Stop being sarcastic."

Meng Xiaoling didn't believe that Lu Mingyue was smart enough to guess the cause and effect.

She was a bookworm since she was little, and all she did every day was read books.

If she hadn't caught a cold during her exam, she wouldn't have been able to take away her permanent position.

She was lucky to escape that time; I don't believe she'll be so lucky next time.

"Don't you know what I mean? This morning you were being overly attentive for no reason, and when I wasn't looking, you put medicine in my porridge and even tried to harm Huo Zheng. Do you know that this is illegal?"

Meng Xiaoling's eyes widened; it turned out she knew everything.

"What are you saying? I don't understand."

Meng Xiaoling was in a state of confusion and instinctively fled the place.

Before I even reached the door, there was a knock.

The door opened, and Huo Zheng stood outside, followed by police officers.

Huo Zheng glanced into the house and saw Lu Mingyue standing there unharmed, and felt inexplicably relieved.

"Meng Xiaoling, someone has reported us. Please come back with us."

Meng Xiaoling hurriedly backed away, "What are you saying? I didn't! You must have made a mistake! I'm innocent!"

She shouted loudly, trying to attract attention.

This trick worked perfectly. The women who came out of Aunt Liu's house hadn't even sat down yet when they heard the commotion and immediately ran over.

"Officers, what are you doing?"

The police officer gave Meng Xiaoling, who was clinging to the door frame, a disapproving look. What should have been a simple matter had been complicated by her.

Huo Zheng glanced at Meng Xiaoling, who was pretending to be dead, and said, "Meng Xiaoling drugged me. The police are coming to investigate."

Drugged?!

The aunties were startled and their eyes darted back and forth between Huo Zheng and the others.

This soldier is indeed a handsome man; no wonder Meng Xiaoling had wicked intentions.

"I am innocent. How can you frame me without any evidence?"

Meng Xiaoling said pitifully, her voice trembling slightly, occasionally covering her face and crying.

Plus, she usually put on a good act, so the aunties were a little soft-hearted when they saw her.

"Comrades, you must have made a mistake. Xiaoling is obedient, sensible, and polite. How could she possibly harm anyone?"

The police officer said sternly, "The person involved is here. We are following the procedures. If Meng Xiaoling really didn't do it, then there's nothing to worry about. Don't you agree?"

The women exchanged glances; that was indeed the case.

Although they often gossip, they dare not act recklessly in front of government officials.

Huo Zheng's gaze turned cold. "Meng Xiaoling, are you sure you're not leaving?"

Meng Xiaoling remained silent; she had already hidden the item, and no one but her could find it.

Huo Zheng snorted coldly. Fine, since she's not afraid of losing face, then he's even less afraid.

Lu Mingyue exchanged a glance with him and nodded slightly.

When they parted ways, the two agreed that one would go to the police and the other would confront Meng Xiaoling.

"Since Comrade Meng is not afraid of losing face, I am even less afraid of losing face."

Huo Zheng recounted everything that happened that morning, but omitted Lu Mingyue's presence.

He didn't want this incident to affect her reputation.

Even when Lu Mingyue initially offered to make the accusation herself, Huo Zheng refused.

They are upright and honest, but in the eyes of busybodies, even white can be called black.

"What?!"

"I didn't realize Xiaoling was this kind of person."

"You've forgotten, like mother, like daughter. Who knows, Lu Wenzhen might have also died from poisoning."

Some people immediately thought of when Lu Mingyue's mother passed away. At that time, Meng Mancang said it was because he was tired from working overtime, but how could a healthy person who was not sick or injured just suddenly die?

Not long after her death, Meng Mancang married Tian Xiaoju. They couldn't believe there wasn't something fishy going on.
