Chapter 35 Rescue

Chapter 35 Rescue

"Hurry up and go, stop dawdling."

Pockmarked led the way, while Scarface brought up the rear, constantly urging them to hurry up.

If they had been a fraction of a second slower, the two brothers would have been killed. Scarface hadn't spent all the money in his pocket, and he didn't want to die.

Lu Mingyue held Yao Yao in her arms, covering most of her body with the raincoat, while getting half of her own body wet.

Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, as if she had heard a dog barking.

Scarface heard it too.

Ma Zi nervously swallowed, his lips trembling as he said in a trembling voice, "Boss, did you hear that?"

The barking grew closer, and Scarface glared at the group before gritting his teeth and making a decision.

"Get rid of all these people."

Since they're doomed anyway if they get caught, it's worth taking them down with you when you die.

Scarface drew a dagger from his lower back, its blade gleaming coldly in the eerie woods.

Lu Mingyue's heart tightened, and she quickly protected the children.

"You can still leave now. We didn't see anything and won't tell anyone."

Scarface didn't believe her; in his eyes, only the dead would shut up.

He raised his dagger and stabbed at Lu Mingyue, deciding to make her the first target.

With a loud "bang," a flock of birds was startled into flight from the forest.

Lu Mingyue felt warm liquid splashing on her face, and she closed her eyes tightly, not daring to open them.

[System, are we going to die?]

The system cheered, "[Host, Huo Zheng has come to rescue you!]"

They were finally saved.

Lu Mingyue opened her eyes and saw Huo Zheng holding a gun not far away.

Scarface, who was holding a dagger, had already fallen to the ground. Seeing that things were not going well, Pockmarked Man turned and ran.

He, who was usually slow and sluggish, suddenly burst out with astonishing speed and disappeared from everyone's sight in the blink of an eye.

Huo Zheng: "Are you all alright?"

Lu Mingyue shook her head: "I'm fine, that person ran away."

Huo Zheng took off his raincoat and covered her with it. "It's alright. We've surrounded the entire mountain. He can't escape."

Lu Mingyue said anxiously, "Yaoyao has a fever, we have to take her to the hospital right away."

Huo Zheng picked up his daughter, whose cheeks were flushed. "Yaoyao, Daddy's here."

Yao Yao felt her eyelids were too heavy to lift. When she heard her father's voice, tears streamed down her cheeks as she cried out, "Daddy, Daddy."

Without delay, Huo Zheng quickly carried his daughter down the mountain. On the way, he met some people who had followed him, gave them a brief explanation, and then hurriedly left.

The police are handling the aftermath, but he still has the most important thing to deal with.

The two boys were handed over to the police, and the couple took Yao Yao to the hospital.

"Luckily you delivered it in time. If it had been delayed for a few more hours, my head would have been spinning."

After hearing the doctor's words, Lu Mingyue finally felt relieved.

The doctor started Yao Yao's IV drip and adjusted the speed. The couple sat by the bedside watching.

"By the way, where's Leilei?"

Huo Zheng: "At the Public Security Bureau."

As soon as he finished speaking, the door to the ward opened, and a figure quickly pounced on the bed.

"younger sister."

Leilei cried his eyes out, hugging his younger sister and sobbing uncontrollably.

Afraid that he would touch his daughter's hand, Huo Zheng pulled him away and gently comforted him, "Your little sister has a fever and needs to rest more. You can play with her when she wakes up."

Leilei shook his head. He didn't want to play anymore. He just wanted to stay by his sister's side. There were too many bad people outside.

Lei Lei was held in Huo Zheng's arms. His eyes drifted to Lu Mingyue and he noticed that her hair was covered in mud. He felt a wave of guilt wash over him.

If she hadn't pushed him out, he probably would have been arrested too, and then their father wouldn't have been able to find them, and their sister would have been in even greater danger.

Huo Zheng patted his head and nodded encouragingly.

Leilei clenched his fists, cheering himself on. He went up to Lu Mingyue and whispered, "Thank you, Mom."

Lu Mingyue was taken aback. "What?"

Did she mishear?

Why did I hear the little one calling her "Mommy"?

After shouting, Leilei shyly ran into his father's arms and refused to look up no matter what.

Huo Zheng: "Comrade Lu, your clothes are all wet. Go to the guesthouse to rest first. I'll watch over things here."

While we were waiting, the police arrived. They had already arrested Ma Zi, and Dao Ba had been shot in the abdomen but was out of danger after emergency treatment. All the people who were helping them were also arrested and will face severe punishment.

The police officers specially arranged a room for them at the guesthouse so that the family could rest.

After a day of tension, Lu Mingyue returned to the safety of her surroundings, and exhaustion washed over her like a tidal wave.

She nodded and said okay, "Leilei, would you like to come back and rest with me?"

Leilei glanced at his younger sister on the hospital bed, shook his head, and said, "I want to be with my sister."

The brother and sister grew up together and never spent more than an hour apart. After this incident, neither of them felt very insecure and just wanted to stay by each other's side.

Huo Zheng asked the nurse to look after Lu Mingyue, and he would come back after dropping her off.

The guesthouse was not far from the hospital, and a few minutes later, the jeep stopped in front of the guesthouse.

Lu Mingyue's clothes were so dirty they were unbearable to look at, but luckily there were some in the car.

I never imagined I'd be wearing these new clothes at a time like this when I bought them.

After the guesthouse staff registered the information, Huo Zheng accompanied Lu Mingyue back to her room.

Upon entering the house, Huo Zheng immediately apologized.

"Comrade Lu, I'm sorry, I've frightened you today."

If he had caught up with the other person sooner, the mother and daughter wouldn't have been so frightened and ended up in such a sorry state.

Lu Mingyue shook her head, "This is not your fault."

Bad people don't notify anyone when they do bad things.

This was just a coincidence.

"I should be thanking you. If you hadn't arrived in time, I'm afraid..."

She'll probably have to die there.

[As a young and beautiful woman, I almost died before I could even enjoy my prime. It's such a pity.]

System: [Yes, host, don't forget the tasks we owe you.]

Did you really have to bring up this unlucky thing at such a touching moment?

Huo Zheng kept it in mind; it seemed that their safety was thanks to the 'system'.

Not knowing what her mission was, Huo Zheng thought he could lend a hand if he could.

Lu Mingyue yawned, and Huo Zheng quickly stood up to say goodbye.

After he left, Lu Mingyue closed the door and prepared to pack her things to take a shower.

Looking at the empty room, I realized that the guesthouses of the 1970s were completely different from those of later generations; there was no place to take a bath in the room.

She patted her head, realizing she'd really gotten waterlogged from being in the rain.

She sighed and prepared to go downstairs to ask the staff where to take a bath.

"Knock knock knock".

Lu Mingyue perked up her ears warily and whispered into the door, "Who is it?"

Huo Zheng's voice rang out from outside the door, "It's me."

Lu Mingyue opened the door and looked at him in surprise, "You haven't gone back yet?"

Huo Zheng clearly had the same idea as her, holding a basin and toiletries in his hand.
