Chapter 58 Continuous Heavy Rain
Not long after we finished eating, the wind and rain outside intensified, and the power was cut off in the residential compound.
Leilei held the radio and tried to adjust it, but there was no sound, only the crackling of electricity.
Yao Yao's eyes were full of worry. "Brother, is the radio broken?"
Leilei shook his head. "It's not bad."
Lu Mingyue came over to take a look, "It's probably because of a power outage and there's no signal, so we can't listen to it."
Unable to go out on a rainy day, and with their only source of entertainment, the radio, broken, the two children were as listless as wilted eggplants.
Seeing the two children looking dejected, Lu Mingyue said, "Let's play Gomoku?"
"Gomoku? What's that?" Leilei had never heard of it.
Lu Mingyue took a piece of paper and drew simple lines on it, demonstrating and explaining at the same time.
"We play rock-paper-scissors. Whoever wins first goes first. Draw circles or triangles on it like this. Whether it's a horizontal line, a vertical line, or a diagonal line, as long as you connect five, you win."
Leilei and Yaoyao had never played this game before and found it very interesting.
"I want to play."
Leilei was the first to raise his hand.
Since it was his first time playing and he wasn't very familiar with it, Lu Mingyue didn't rush him, letting him slowly think about where to go next.
As expected, Leilei lost the first game, but he was not discouraged and quickly cheered up to start the second game.
Watching her mother and brother engrossed in playing chess on either side, Yao Yao's little mind couldn't quite grasp it, so she quickly ran back into the room and took out her doll.
After Lu Mingyue got tired of playing, she realized that the little girl had fallen asleep on the sofa while hugging her doll.
Lu Mingyue carried her back into the house, and when she came out again, Leilei had already packed up the notebook and pen.
After feeding the chicks dry food, the mother and daughter washed their hands and went to bed.
Rainy days are perfect for sleeping.
As the rain pattered against the glass, Lu Mingyue and her two children fell asleep peacefully.
outside the house.
The sky was covered with dark clouds, pressing down so that the sea and sky almost merged into one. The lighthouse's beacon swayed violently in the wind, and the trees near the shore were almost blown close to the ground.
When Lu Mingyue got up, she found the room was dark. Remembering the candles she kept at home, she groped her way to the cabinet in the dark.
After the candles were lit, the room finally became bright.
Before the two children woke up, Lu Mingyue went to the kitchen to knead dough.
Even during a typhoon, meals cannot be missed.
Once inside the kitchen, Lu Mingyue realized something was wrong.
The kitchen was leaking in the middle, with water dripping from above, and a small dent had been made in the floor.
Looking upwards, the water is still dripping continuously.
No way?
Whose house leaks during a typhoon?
With a raging storm outside and no one to help her, she could only find a basin to catch the raindrops for now.
The brother and sister got up a little while later and found their mother in the kitchen, following the sound.
Leilei noticed a basin on the kitchen floor.
"Mom, it's raining at home."
Lu Mingyue sighed and said, "That's right, it's raining heavily outside, but it's drizzling inside."
Fortunately, the leak wasn't too fast.
Yao Yao pressed her face against the window, looking at the heavy rain outside with a worried expression. "Mommy, when is Daddy coming back?"
Lu Mingyue shook her head and said, "Mom doesn't know either. Dad is probably out patrolling now, helping more people in need."
She tied up all the stray hairs on Yao Yao's forehead, revealing her smooth forehead.
Yao Yao's little brows were still furrowed, and her fingers unconsciously picked at the cracks in the window: "But the rain is so heavy, will Daddy's clothes get soaked? Will he be cold?"
Lu Mingyue's heart softened completely, and she said softly, "No, Dad is wearing a raincoat and rain boots, and the uncles and aunties in the cafeteria will cook ginger soup, so Dad won't get cold."
She paused and said, "Besides, didn't Dad tell us before he left that he would take care of himself? We should also take care of ourselves so he won't worry."
At this, Yao Yao's eyes lit up, and she moved her little hand away from the window, tightly clutching her mother's clothes. "Then let's make something delicious for Daddy when he comes back, okay?"
"Okay, Yao Yao, think about what you want to do first, and we'll do it together when Daddy comes back."
Yao Yao nodded happily.
Leilei comforted his sister, "Dad will be back after he finishes his mission. Let's give him something delicious to eat while we wait for him."
The two children are always so sensible, which makes Lu Mingyue, as a parent, feel ashamed of herself.
Since she had nothing to do at home anyway, Lu Mingyue decided to make sugar cakes for the children.
When the two children heard that there would be sweet candy cakes to eat, they jumped up and down, eager to help.
Making sugar pancakes is similar to making steamed buns.
After kneading the dough, divide it into evenly sized portions. Take one portion, flatten it, wrap the filling inside, and seal it tightly with your thumb and forefinger.
To prevent the sugar filling from leaking out during baking, Lu Mingyue mixed it with flour to increase its adhesiveness.
Compared to dumplings, the two children had more fun making sugar pancakes.
One large and two small ones formed a small assembly line, and the sugar cakes were wrapped up very quickly.
The candles were moved to the kitchen, making the living room somewhat dark, and the two children huddled close together with their mother.
As the sugar pancakes sizzled in the pan, a sweet aroma filled the air.
Yao Yao sniffed the air and exclaimed, "Mommy, the sugar cake smells so good!"
"It smells good, doesn't it?" Lu Mingyue flipped it over. "It'll be ready in a little while."
Leilei: "The sugar pancake must be delicious!"
Both children love sweets, but we always try to control their intake to prevent tooth decay.
The sugar pancakes were finally ready, under the expectant gazes of the two children.
"The sugar cake is very hot, let it cool down a bit before eating."
Hearing her mother's words, Yao Yao withdrew the chopsticks she was about to reach out with and slowly blew on them to cool them down.
Once she felt the sugar cake in front of her had stopped emitting heat, she tentatively took a small bite.
The crust is thin, and each bite is a delightful combination of the aroma of flour and the sweet taste of sugar.
Leilei also really liked the texture of the sugar cake, and exclaimed, "I wish I could eat sugar cakes every day!"
Lu Mingyue laughed and said, "Eating it every day isn't necessarily a bad thing, but eventually your teeth will be eaten up by worms, and while we're gnawing on meat, you'll only be able to drink porridge."
Leilei covered his mouth in fright and said incoherently, "Then I'll eat the meat."
Faced with the choice between eating meat and eating sugar, Leilei decisively chose to eat meat.
Fearing that the children's teeth would get cavities, Lu Mingyue took them to brush their teeth immediately after they finished eating the sugar cakes.
The clock chimed, and Lu Mingyue glanced at it; it was already eight o'clock.
Hearing the howling wind outside, Lu Mingyue felt a little worried, wondering how Huo Zheng was doing.
Meanwhile, Huo Zheng was urgently evacuating people from a village.
This typhoon is extremely powerful and is the most severe one in recent years.
Many old houses on the island collapsed as a result, and they had to evacuate the villagers to safety as soon as possible.
I thought the typhoon would come and go quickly, but the rain has been falling for two days straight and shows no sign of stopping.
