Chapter 130 is not romantic at all [51]
After wandering around for a while, Ah Chu returned to the courtyard.
Wen Yue was already tossing the food in the wok, and the aroma wafted out through the large window that covered half the wall.
As if lured by a sweet tooth, Achu went to the kitchen window.
She leaned against the windowsill and sniffed, "It smells so good! Wen Yue, what did you make?"
Wen Yue looked up at A Chu and smiled: "Spicy chicken wings, I was just about to try them out, do you want to try some?"
Achu immediately replied, "Yes!"
She walked around the window and went straight into the kitchen.
Wen Yue got A Chu a pair of chopsticks, a bowl, and then gave her a chicken wing.
"Be careful not to get burned."
Ah Chu picked up a chicken wing, made two "mmm" sounds, blew on it a few times, and then took a bite.
The first bite is fragrant and spicy: "Mmm! Delicious! The flavor is just right!"
Wen Yue: "Okay, then I'll take it out of the pot."
Wen Yue then proceeded to prepare the next dish.
Achu sat on a recliner outside the kitchen, enjoying the evening breeze, and occasionally exchanged a few words with Wen Yue.
She would wait until Wen Yue had prepared a dish quickly before going in to taste it.
When only a faint pink sunset glowed on the horizon, Wen Yue's dinner was ready.
The courtyard is decorated with string lights, which are not too bright or dazzling, but add a touch of dreaminess.
Wen Yue placed the dishes one by one on the table under the grape trellis, while A Chu sat and waited to eat.
Wen Yue waited until he placed the last soup on the table before sitting down opposite A Chu.
Looking at the table full of food, Achu exclaimed, "So much! We can't possibly finish it all, can we?"
Wen Yue: "It's okay, I didn't make a particularly large portion."
He picked up a ceramic wine bottle next to him and asked Achu, "Would you like to try some freshly brewed grape wine?"
Achu: "Yes!"
Wen Yue poured most of a glass for A Chu.
The wine is purplish-red, and the aroma of grapes is released.
Ah Chu brought it to her lips and took a sip. It tasted sweet like grapes, with a very light wine flavor.
Because it was chilled, it was very refreshing and sweet.
Ah Chu narrowed her eyes and smiled, "Delicious!"
Wen Yue said with a smile, "If you like it, take some back with you later so Dad can try it too."
Even though they were divorced, he still called Li's father "Dad".
Li's father never corrected him, and always responded with a cheerful smile.
Achu did correct him twice, but Wen Yue just smiled and didn't say anything. He would call her that again next time, so she couldn't be bothered to correct him anymore.
Wen Yue served food to A Chu, telling her not to just focus on drinking.
Ah Chu ate his food while drinking.
Wen Yue was also drinking, occasionally clinking glasses with A Chu.
The two ate slowly and chatted.
Wen Yue already knew A Chu very well, so it was easy for him to find topics that interested her.
They seemed to have endless things to talk about when they were together.
By the time we finished eating, the sky was already a deep indigo blue.
Because it's far from the city, you can see many stars in the sky.
Wen Yue cleared the table and put the dishes into the dishwasher.
Then he came out and said to Achu, "Come on, I'll show you something."
"What are you looking at?" Achu asked curiously.
Wen Yue smiled but did not answer: "You'll find out soon enough."
He carried a lantern large enough to illuminate the path and led Achu out of the courtyard.
Achu was originally walking beside Wen Yue, about two fists' distance away.
As they got further away from the courtyard, the only light source was the lantern in Wen Yue's hand, and A Chu unconsciously moved closer to him.
Achu's voice held a hint of fear: "Wen Yue, there might be snakes in this bush, right?"
Wen Yue looked at her, his voice low and gentle: "Don't be afraid, there are no snakes here."
"If you're scared, I can hold your hand?" he asked tentatively.
As soon as Wen Yue finished speaking, A Chu had already wrapped her arms around his and clung tightly to him.
"I'm not scared, I'm scared of you."
Even though her voice was trembling slightly with fear, she still insisted on being stubborn.
Wen Yue smiled and said, "Yes, I was a little scared. Thank you for grabbing my arm to give me courage."
Achu: "You're welcome."
After walking a short distance, we arrived at a small grove by the lake.
Just as Achu was about to ask Wen Yue how much further they had to go, he heard him say, "We're here. Look ahead."
"Huh? What's up ahead?" Achu looked over in confusion.
Wen Yue turned off the lantern, and it became dark all around.
But soon, it lit up again.
Tiny specks of yellow fluorescence danced among the trees, growing more numerous and brighter.
Like stars falling from the sky.
Achu's eyes were also illuminated by that tiny bit of fluorescence.
"These...these are fireflies?"
Wen Yue hummed in agreement.
Ah Chu exclaimed, "Wow! They're so beautiful! This is the first time I've ever seen fireflies in real life! So that's how they really glow!"
Once his eyes adjusted to the light, Wen Yue could clearly see A Chu's face even under the glow of the fireflies.
She gazed at the fireflies with focused joy.
But in Wen Yue's eyes, A Chu was far more attractive than those fireflies.
"Li Yang," Wen Yue called to her.
Achu's gaze remained fixed on the dancing fireflies, and she casually replied, "Hmm?"
Wen Yue didn't know if A Chu would listen to what he said, but he still said, "Although we are divorced, you should know my feelings."
"If I had known I would fall in love with you, I wouldn't have ignored you so much during the three years after we got married."
"Perhaps you insist on divorcing me because you resent me, and that's understandable."
"I just hope that you can give me a chance to pursue you and be with you."
"May I?"
When Wen Yue spoke his second sentence, A Chu had already shifted his attention away from the fireflies.
After Wen Yue finished speaking, she asked, "If I don't agree, you won't just leave me here, will you?"
Wen Yue was taken aback for a moment before quickly replying, "Of course not! Why would you think that?"
Ah Chu blinked and said, "Because this place is far from the city, and there are no other houses around, it's practically the middle of nowhere! It's the kind of place where you can do bad things and no one will hear your cries for help..."
Wen Yue interrupted her: "Have you been watching any crime movies lately?"
Ah Chu looked completely surprised: "How did you know?"
Wen Yue's face was utterly speechless.
"Otherwise, why would you think I would leave you here if you rejected my confession?"
This was a place he had been looking for for a long time, thinking that if A-Chu got tired of staying in the city, he could occasionally bring her here for a short stay.
And so many fireflies, how romantic!
In her words, it became the best location for crime.
It's not romantic at all.
Wen Yue sighed and said, "Don't worry, no matter what you say, I can't leave you here alone."
Ah Chu said, "Then let's go back to the courtyard first. The fireflies are beautiful, but it's a bit scary here."
Wen Yue: "Okay."
Before Achu could hug his arm, Wen Yue took her hand first.
Turn on the electric lantern to light up the ground.
Achu was led back by Wen Yue.
Once back in the brightly lit courtyard, Achu finally answered Wen Yue's question.
