Chapter 5: Escape from the Troubled Times 3
In the moonlight, Lin Xia clearly saw the man lying motionless on the ground, blood slowly flowing from the gaps between his hands covering his neck, his eyes wide open.
She walked around the body, found her stick, and continued to poke the man's neck. Seeing that he had no reaction, she was sure that the man was indeed dead.
Looking at those eyes that were still open, Lin Xia was a little scared and grabbed a handful of straw to cover his face.
Well, it’s less scary if you can’t see it.
She was worried that this man had a companion, and if they came looking for him, it would be all over, and she might not be able to handle it again like this.
Then Lin Xia took the opportunity to search the corpse. The main reason was that she was too poor, otherwise she wouldn't have endured the fear to do such a thing.
She was afraid that she was not professional enough and could not search thoroughly, so she stripped off the man's clothes and shoes, even his underwear. Some people like to hide things in such private places.
Look, I found a dime of silver right here.
He hooked the silver away from the corpse with his foot, rubbed it vigorously on the ground for a while, and then put it into his pocket with disgust.
Then I pulled the man's hair down and found nothing, then turned his shoes over.
This stinks too much and there is nothing there.
A total of one dime and half a cake were found on him.
His clothes looked fine and intact, except for the blood on the collar. Without carefully checking if there was anything else inside his clothes, Lin Xia hugged the pile of clothes that reeked of sweat and blood, took his dog-beating stick and stone knife, and ran away overnight.

The moon hangs high in the sky, illuminating the way ahead.
Lin Xia covered his head and started rushing.
I had a good sleep before, and I don’t have a fever or feel tired anymore, but I’m very hungry and thirsty.
After walking for a full hour, she stopped and looked around carefully, and found that she was walking on a small hill.
Oh my god, why is it so scary!
There are some dead trees standing sparsely around, like ghostly shadows staring at you.
It was so quiet around her that she seemed to be the only one there, yet it seemed to be filled with people.
I didn't feel it before because I was rushing along with my head covered, but once I stopped, I couldn't suppress the fear in my heart.
But she was unwilling to stay here any longer, so she could only overcome her fear and continue on her way.
Apart from being a little dark, at least it's much cooler at night than during the day.
She wanted to go south, and she didn't know if she had gone the wrong way, but she should be heading in the right direction.
The sky was getting light.
Lin Xia had been traveling for most of the night and was thirsty and hungry. She had unknowingly finished all the water and her own bread. All that was left was half a piece of bread made of wild vegetables, bran and rice bran that she had found on the man last night.
She sat on a big rock to rest.
As the sun rises, the sky is filled with a soft orange glow, gradually illuminating the entire earth.
Everything seems so peaceful and beautiful at sunrise.
The scenery before my eyes is breathtaking.
Lin Xia stood there in a daze. The beautiful scene before her seemed to dispel her inner uneasiness. She felt extremely comfortable bathed in the warm sunshine.
She seemed to see a hint of purple in the rising orange light.
Could this be the so-called Purple Air Coming from the East? The ancients were not lying to me!
I sat there for half an hour. It was so comfortable that all the fatigue in my body seemed to have dissipated a lot.
Lin Xia had rested enough and was ready to continue on his journey. Standing on a high place, he saw a village in the distance in the valley and was overjoyed.
You can live wherever there are people.
*
The saying "running to the mountain and then dying" is exactly what Lin Xia is facing. The village looks close, but it took her two hours to walk there.
Finally she got closer and stopped.
Not far from the village, I endured the nausea and changed into men's clothes and changed my hairstyle.
Anyway, she was so thin that she had almost no breasts, and her face was so dirty that it was impossible to tell whether she was a man or a woman.
After taking care of everything, she continued to walk towards the village entrance, but did not go in. After observing for a while, she found that it was a small uninhabited village.
Lin Xia still did not let down her guard, fearing that passers-by might be resting here.
I searched the entire village but didn't find anyone.
Lin Xia walked into the only blue brick house in the village and searched every room one by one. It was empty. There were no tables, chairs, benches, or large jars or boxes. There was only some firewood that could not be moved.
There was nothing useful there. The only useful things were a few pieces of waste paper with traditional Chinese characters written on them on the floor next to the stove.
She couldn't understand most of the words, and she guessed that she could see the words "Wushan Village".
She had heard of this village name before and retrieved the information about Wushan Village from her memory.
The original owner's family home was closer to here, and a close sister in the village was said to have married to Wushan Village.
From my memory, I learned that Wushan Village is to the southeast of the original owner's village, about 100 kilometers away. This village is relatively poor and has a bad geographical location. It is not close to water and there is only a small hill nearby. Resources are scarce. The family that married that sister paid a large sum of money as a dowry before they took her away.
Since the village is not near water, it is definitely more affected by the drought than the original village. The original village at least had a river, but here there is only a dry shallow stream.
Looking at this empty house, the whole village must have planned to flee the famine.
Lin Xia was not discouraged. She searched other houses as well and found a broken backpack, some broken bowls and a broken clay pot.
In fact, she also found wooden barrels and basins, but these items were very heavy, weighing several kilograms each, and she could not lift them, so she had to travel light.
At the end of the search, the only thing left was a thatched house at the edge of the village.
The door of the house was half-open. Lin Xia pushed it open and just as she stepped in with her left foot, she froze in place after taking a look.
It seems that someone is still...
There was a figure sitting quietly on a chair beside the kang. It was dark in the room and one couldn't see the other person's expression clearly.
Lin Xia was startled and remained silent for two seconds before quietly retracting her foot and leaving the room.
A hoarse voice apologized: "Sorry to bother you, I thought there was no one around."
After a long while, no one responded.
Lin Xia bravely stretched her head to look at him again and asked, "Are you okay?"
No one answered.
She walked slowly into the room, saying, "I'm coming in."
Still no one answered.
When I got closer, I found it was an old lady. She touched the other person with the stick in her hand, but there was no response.
He applied a little more strength, and the opponent fell to the ground in the same position.
Lin Xia looked closer and confirmed that she had been dead for quite some time, her body had turned into a mummy.
In the two days before and after the time travel, she had become accustomed to seeing corpses.
Lin Xia ran straight to the kitchen, opened the lid of the water tank, and there was still water!
She took out a bamboo tube, carefully scooped the clear water from it, and couldn't wait to drink half of it.
At least I'm alive.
Water, the source of human life.
After drinking the water, Lin Xia carefully observed the kitchen in a good mood.
The whole kitchen was very simple, with a wooden barrel, a water tank, a broken cupboard, and an empty kimchi jar next to it.
Next to the door was an earthen stove. The space where the iron pot was placed was empty, so there was a small stove next to it with an intact pottery jar on it and a lot of firewood piled next to it.
