Chapter 72

Chapter 72

It was break time when the two returned to the company. Most people in the company went to the cafeteria to eat, leaving only Song Xianle and He Yanqing there.

Song Xianle packed up her documents and planned to order takeout. She knocked on He Yanqing's door and asked him, "Director He, aren't you going to have lunch? I was about to order takeout, would you like to join us?"

He Yanqing had just turned on the air conditioner when he turned around and heard Song Xianle ask him if he wanted to order takeout together. He looked at her steadily and said, "Sure, order one for me."

Seeing that he agreed, Song Xianle asked, "Then what do you want to eat?"

After He Yanqing turned on the air conditioner, a cool breeze blew into the office.

He walked over and said, "Just like you."

Song Xianle glanced at the tie in front of his collar. No matter how hot the weather was, he would not loosen it.

She nodded, "Okay, I'll watch."

Song Xianle didn't leave in a hurry. She stood opposite He Yanqing and ordered takeout with her phone. Every time she saw someone, she would ask him, "Is this okay?"

He Yanqing took a look at what it was, looked at her silently, and didn't say whether it was okay or not, but just said, "It's up to you."

He didn't like noodles, he'd told Song Xianle before. Unexpectedly, she'd forgotten. He felt a strange bitterness in his heart, but it didn't linger for long.

Then Song Xianle found another one and asked him, "What about this one?"

As she expected, He Yanqing took a look and his expression changed. He rarely denied it out loud, "I don't like porridge."

He Yanqing's eyes were cold, "You know I don't like to eat these."

He looked at her in silence. She smiled gently, but there was a subtle smirk in her eyes. He knew she was doing it on purpose. She knew he didn't like noodles or porridge, but she insisted on asking him.

Song Xianle knew that he was a little angry, so he explained, "Just because you didn't like it before doesn't mean you don't like it now. What if your taste changes?"

The two of them were not far from each other. Just now, when Song Xianle asked him if he could eat these, the distance between them was reduced to only an arm's length.

“My tastes haven’t changed.”

He Yanqing looked at Song Xianle with conviction, a hazy light still lingering in his dark eyes. What he disliked before, he no longer dislikes now. What he liked before, he might still like now.

Song Xianle felt as if the little balloon in her heart had been punctured, and her heartbeat accelerated from the shock. She calmed down and absentmindedly brushed her brush for a while. She didn't dare tease him anymore and ordered two meals.

"It's ready."

Song Xianle raised his cell phone and showed it to him.

He Yanqing took a look and saw a WeChat verification message coming in. He quickly glanced at it and saw a line of words: I am Haibei.

He looked away from his phone and said nothing.

Song Xianle took back her phone and saw a new friend. She clicked on it and took a look. She was not surprised and clicked to accept.

We are all from the same company, so it is inevitable that we will meet again in the future. I might be able to help you if possible.

Just as Song Xianle lowered her head to send a message, He Yanqing looked at the necklace on her neckline and asked softly, "Why do you still keep it?"

Song Xianle was puzzled, "What are you keeping?"

He Yanqing: "Necklace."

Song Xianle looked down at her necklace. She had been searching for it for a long time last night, but she only discovered it now.

"Because I still like him." She looked up at him, her eyes calm and her face peaceful.

"It's pretty nice, isn't it?"

He Yanqing ignored her last sentence, a rare expression on his face. He tried to figure out what she meant, "If you like it, keep it?"

"Then just delete what you don't like?" His tone was flat, but Song Xianle felt that his words were full of ice chips, and he felt a stinging chill before he even touched them.

It seemed that He Yanqing still minded that she had deleted him, and she was speechless.

“It’s hard to explain…”

It wasn't her who deleted it.

"...Well, I'm treating you to dinner Saturday night, so why not take you to a movie? I saw one last night; it's a new sci-fi movie."

Song Xianle spoke sincerely, and her tone became softer, sounding a bit like a little girl's cuteness in He Yanqing's ears.

She saw that He Yanqing didn't say anything and seemed to be thinking.

Song Xianle was afraid that he would refuse, so he added: "What if you are free that night? You can watch it or not, depending on the situation."

"I'll be out first." She said what she had to say and did what she had to do.

He Yanqing heard the door close and followed it with a gentle gaze. The smile in his eyes reached his heart, "Last night?"

Did she do it on impulse?

Or did you have the idea last night?

Song Xianle left He Yanqing's office and glanced back at the door. She held the silver fishtail necklace in her hand. He Yanqing had noticed it today, which made her search last night worthwhile. Song Xianle's face lit up instantly.

After getting the takeaway, Song Xianle knocked on the door and put it on the coffee table in He Yanqing's office after getting permission.

She put the takeaway away and glanced at the busy man. Song Xianle heard a little and it seemed that he was talking to someone on the phone to report something. She didn't want to disturb him, so she tiptoed out again.

--

After completing a day's work, Song Xianle leaves work on time.

After leaving the office, Song Xianle didn't rush home. Instead, she walked for ten minutes to Wanzhan Plaza. She first found a restaurant and had dinner. Then, she browsed the third and fourth floors and bought a light green dress, a silver-white casual shirt, and two pairs of earrings to match.

Song Xianle took the escalator to the second floor's daily necessities area and bought some fruit. Not much, just enough for the next two days.

She was originally planning to go to the fresh milk section to take a look, but then she saw a white figure in the vegetable section. The back of his head and hair looked like him.

Song Xianle looked around and found the shopping basket, putting the fruit and the clothes she had just bought in. She put two cartons of milk in without checking their production dates or expiration dates, because she saw He Yanqing was leaving.

She followed him, but there were too many people queuing. Even though there were many lines, she was still far behind He Yanqing.

Song Xianle carried the shopping basket in both hands as the line slowly moved forward. She looked at He Yanqing's back and never thought he could cook, nor did she know where he lived.

After paying the bill, Song Xianle walked out of the mall. She could no longer see He Yanqing and could only sigh. She looked down at the milk in her hands and felt that she shouldn't have asked for it.

Song Xianle had been outside for nearly two hours, and it was almost nine o'clock. She walked to the road to stop a car, and saw a black car pull up in front of her.

"Secretary Song, would you like a taxi?" He Yanqing glanced at the milk in her hand. He was not mistaken about the person in the mall just now.

Just now in the mall, he turned to go to the checkout area and saw Song Xianle picking up two boxes of milk with his back to him.

"Want to get in?" he asked her, unlocking the car door.

Song Xianle smiled and said, "Okay."

Today is the second time I have ridden in He Yanqing's car, and I have done it three times in total.

Song Xianle got in the car and saw his briefcase, "This..."

He Yanqing took a look at it and placed it in the space between the two seats on the right.

Song Xianle sat in the car and fastened his seat belt. Just as he was about to put the things in his hands under his feet, he saw He Yanqing reaching out to take them. "Let me put them in the back for you. It's not comfortable under your feet."

He Yanqing bent to the right and took the milk from Song Xianle's hand with both hands. Inevitably, their hands touched.

He leaned back and put them in the back. Song Xianle looked back and saw a large box that almost took up the entire back seat.

Song Xianle suddenly started. She didn't pay attention to the back and sat in the front without thinking.

One thing she hadn't considered before was He Yanqing's attitude towards her. She had always taken the initiative to approach him because they were old acquaintances. She thought they already knew each other and were familiar with each other, so she thought she could skip the acquaintance stage and start pursuing him, which was fine.

But he still dislikes the things he said he disliked today. What about the people he liked before? Do he still like them now? Or do he still dislike them?

Song Xianle was thinking about how to take it slow, while He Yanqing was thinking about the contrast between her attitude in the past few days and before.

"Did I see you just now? Can you cook?" Song Xianle thought for a moment and changed the way he asked.

"Um."

"Did you see me buying groceries?"

Song Xianle: "I see."

Song Xianle: "Haven't you eaten yet?"

He Yanqing: “No.”

"Do it yourself at home?"

"Um."

The two of them stayed like this, Song Xianle asked a question and He Yanqing answered it.

Song Xianle looked at him two or three times. "When did you learn to cook? After graduation?"

He Yanqing paused and replied, "No, I'm in the first year of high school."

“I learned a little from my dad in high school.”

At that time, He Hai and Tan Xian'er were very busy for a while, so the task of taking care of He Nianqing fell on him.

“I only found out about this now.”

After knowing each other for so many years, she only found out about this now.

She thought He Yanqing learned to cook after living on his own after graduation, but she was wrong.

"We didn't talk about this topic at that time."

What did they talk about back then? It seemed like they'd just go to the library together to write papers, and after work during their internship, they'd go back to school together. They'd mostly just talk about their internships. They rarely discussed their lives; at the time, they weren't sure if they'd ever live together.

When talking about the past, the two would fall into silence.

Song Xianle tucked the hair that fell on her cheek and said, "Then let's talk more in the future."

He Yanqing's eyes froze. He held the steering wheel steadily, but his heart was trembling and his breathing became rapid. "What are you talking about?"

She leaned sideways, turned her head to look at He Yanqing, and said with a smile, "Let's talk about life."

"Let's talk about you and me."

"Perhaps, if there's a chance, we can chat about it?"
