Chapter 99

Chapter 99

On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Shen Jiangfu went downstairs to find Xie Jing with a pomelo in her hand.

“Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!”

As soon as Xie Jing opened the door, he saw a bright smile and was dazzled by it.

Shen Jiangfu wore a yellow floral dress today and tied her hair up, revealing her white and slender neck.

Xie Jing took a few careful looks. In his impression, Shen Jiangfu rarely wore skirts. He only remembered that she had worn a green skirt once, the last time.

Noticing Xie Jing's gaze lingering on her, Shen Jiangfu took the initiative to ask, "Does this skirt look good?" She lifted the hem of her skirt and swung it. She looked up at the sky, which was bathed in a faint moonlight. "Today is Mid-Autumn Festival, so yellow is a good choice."

Xie Jing also looked up at the sky, and finally looked at Shen Jiangfu's face and said, "It looks good."

There was a cool breeze at night, which blew the yellow skirt.

In the distance came the crisp sound of bamboos colliding with each other and the rustling of leaves. The two sounds alternated and finally overlapped. Xie Jing and Shen Jiangfu's sights also overlapped, and they bumped into each other's eyes at the same time.

The two stared at each other for nearly a minute, with hidden emotions in their eyes, and neither of them was willing to look away first.

Tonight, Xie Jing didn't wear glasses. Shen Jiangfu stared at his eyes, nose, lips, and finally his face. Xie Jing seemed to sense it, and he followed her gaze, from her eyes, nose, lips, and finally back to her eyes.

Shen Jiangfu felt like she was chasing a kiss. As soon as this thought came out, she felt her face getting hot and she bit her lips unconsciously.

Xie Jing noticed Shen Jiangfu's movements and his eyes fell on her lips for a few seconds. He looked into Shen Jiangfu's eyes and saw shyness in them.

Xie Jing was stunned. He heard a clear heartbeat.

Many thoughts flashed through his mind, and he finally settled on one idea - maybe she also had feelings for him.

Seeing Xie Jing's stunned expression, Shen Jiangfu held back her laughter.

In the past, whenever Shen Jiangfu and Xie Jing met eyes, he would quickly look away. But tonight was different. In the end, it was Shen Jiangfu who spoke first, ending the stare-down. "Let's share the pomelo."

Shen Jiangfu walked around Xie Jing and walked into his house as if she knew the whole place well.

Xie Jing was still standing at the door. He touched his chest and tried to take a deep breath to stabilize his heart rate.

After Shen Jiangfu went in, she let go of her face and laughed.

As soon as Xie Jing came in, he saw Shen Jiangfu standing motionless in front of Youzi. He took a closer look and saw Shen Jiangfu smiling there. Her smile was very charming and a little cute. He also saw the smugness in her eyes.

Shen Jiangfu couldn't stop smiling, and he saw it.

He thought of the shyness that Shen Jiangfu had shown just now, and some fragmented fragments flashed through his mind. He realized something and suddenly had a bold idea: her shyness just now was fake, and her complacency was real.

He thought, maybe she had already seen his affection for her and had been watching his next move. Or maybe, she didn't like him at all, but just wanted to trick him into liking her.

Why did she do that?

He thought of Shen Jiangfu from earlier times.

Compared to the current Shen Jiangfu at that time, she would not take the initiative to greet him, nor would she send him thousand-layer cakes and water chestnut cakes, let alone go shopping with him in the supermarket. At most, they would just look at each other and nod to him.

They were strangers before and had no intersection at all.

It seemed that from one day on, Shen Jiangfu often appeared in his sight. At first, she would smile at him politely when she saw him, and later she would often talk to him.

Shen Jiangfu saw Xie Jing's expression suddenly change. There was a strangeness and doubt in his eyes as he looked at her, as well as an inadvertent hint of vigilance and judgment.

There was a buzzing sound in her head, and she thought to herself, this is not good. She was very familiar with this look.

In the past, when she was on a mission, people noticed that something was wrong with her, but this happened very rarely. Most people would just think it was a personality change and would not suspect that she was different.

Why did Xie Jing become suspicious at this moment?

Shen Jiangfu was thinking about how to deal with the situation, and her face showed the regret of being caught secretly happy, mixed with a hint of shyness and embarrassment. After making this expression, she turned around and left her back to Xie Jing.

As she touched the pomelo, she guessed that Xie Jing might just be suspicious and not directly determine that she was not her.

Moreover, this is unscientific for him given the situation in the modern society in which he lives.

Xie Jing saw Shen Jiangfu turning away with a red face. Was he overthinking it?

Or did she do this on purpose to see what he thought of her?

Maybe he had a preconceived notion that she only had a steady side and would never show her naughty or joking side.

Seeing that there was nothing wrong with Shen Jiangfu's expression, Xie Jing's original doubts about Shen Jiangfu turned into doubts about his own guess.

"Do you have a knife at home? Let's cut this pomelo in half each." After a while, Xie Jing heard Shen Jiangfu ask him in a choked voice.

At this moment, Shen Jiangfu turned to look at Xie Jing. Although her face appeared calm, tears welled up in her eyes.

Seeing this scene, Xie Jing felt even more confused, and his tone unconsciously became cautious, "Yes, I'll get it for you."

He went to the kitchen to get a knife, thinking about Shen Jiangfu's sudden disappointment just now.

She seemed to be crying... Did he scare her?

Xie Jing's thoughts now were like a ball rolling down a slope to a flat ground, slowly spinning and stopping in one place.

He came out with a knife. When Shen Jiangfu saw it, she wanted to take it and cut it herself, but Xie Jing didn't give it to her. His tone became gentler because he sensed the change in Shen Jiangfu's mood, "Let me do it."

Shen Jiangfu said nothing and gave up her seat.

She watched Xie Jing finish dividing the pomelo, then stood there motionless with the knife in his hand, his eyes still looking at her, as if waiting for her instructions. He looked very at a loss.

She originally wanted to maintain a disappointed and sad expression, but seeing that Xie Jing seemed to take it seriously, and that he occasionally revealed a puzzled look that looked a bit silly, she found it a bit funny, and this time she couldn't help laughing, and the tears in her eyes flowed down.

Chen Jiangfu realized that she had failed, and immediately adjusted her state, returning to her dejected expression. Before leaving, she looked at Xie Jing with a resentful and reluctant look.

She felt that she was becoming more and more proficient in dealing with such situations, and her acting skills were getting better and better.

Xie Jing had been observing Shen Jiangfu's movements, and saw her laughing and crying, with a hint of sadness in her eyes.

He was not mistaken in what he said, and there was a hint of grievance and some emotions that he could clearly explain. This inexplicable emotion was scratching his heart and lungs at the moment, making him feel itchy.

"I'm suddenly feeling unwell. I'm going home first." Shen Jiangfu finished her part and left in a hurry. If she didn't leave, she didn't know how to continue.

When Xie Jing reacted, he took two or three big strides to the door and wanted to call out to Shen Jiangfu, but she had already run away with half a pomelo in her arms.

Xie Jing scratched his hair, his mind was still confused. He couldn't understand how things turned out like this in just a short while.

*

Shen Jiangfu stepped out of Xie Jing's house and started running.

Although the old saying goes "You can hide for a while, but you can't hide forever", she thinks it's better to hide now.

Shen Jiangfu wiped the tears from her face and ran back home quickly.

This trick was a bit nonsensical, she had used it before, but it was quite effective and caught them off guard.

It seems to be of some use to Xie Jing as well.

Shen Jiangfu thought carefully about what had just happened and felt that she was too stressed. If Xie Jing asked her about it, she would deny it flatly and the truth would not be discovered.

So, her reaction was a bit excessive.

"Forget it, forget it. Since it has happened, let Xie Jing guess it himself, let him figure it out himself, let him be confused!" Shen Jiangfu broke the pomelo and started eating. She couldn't help feeling sorry. The mooncakes were still at Xie Jing's house. She didn't get to eat them tonight, so she would go to the supermarket to buy two boxes tomorrow.

I had been thinking of spending the Mid-Autumn Festival with Xie Jing tonight, and testing him to see how much he liked me.

Now, she fell into trouble and finally fled from his house.

She let her guard down a little and thought others were stupid.

Chen Jiangfu ate the pomelo in a disjointed manner. She finished eating the three or four pieces of pomelo that she had broken open, clapped her hands to wipe off the pomelo seeds, and thought about what to do when she saw Xie Jing tomorrow.

The best thing to do is to pretend nothing happened and see what he does.

Shen Jiangfu put the remaining pomelo in the refrigerator and went upstairs humming a song.

*

After Shen Jiangfu left, Xie Jing sat on the sofa thinking about what had just happened.

Everything happened suddenly, yet smoothly. He felt strange and yet... not so strange.

At the end, the way Shen Jiangfu looked at him and her sudden departure seemed to be because she saw something strange in him.

Shen Jiangfu became like that after he had a strange idea, and he looked at her at that time.

Xie Jing recalled Shen Jiangfu's expression, that look of shyness, complacency, regret, embarrassment, and grievance, as if telling him that he had done something wrong.

Did she misunderstand something?

Xie Jing couldn't figure it out, so he picked up his phone and wrote down a message.

On the other side, Shen Jiangfu received the message after she took a shower.

Seeing someone sending a message, Shen Jiangfu probably guessed who it was.

Xie Jing: [Did you feel unwell when you left just now?]

Shen Jiangfu blew her hair with a hairdryer and replied to him only after it was dry.

[Just now I had a stomachache and diarrhea.]

Xie Jing: [Have you taken the medicine?]

Chen Jiangfu: [I ate it. Thank you for your concern.]

She thought about it and came up with a good idea. She felt she could strike first, so she sent another message: "Xie Jing, I quite like you. I originally thought you had the same feelings about me, but tonight I realized that I was being too sentimental. From now on, we can be neighbors. Thank you for taking care of me these days. I won't bother you anymore. I wish you well."

Shen Jiangfu read over what she had written, a smile of approval spreading across her face.

What do you mean by slowly confirming? She doesn't want to play like this anymore!
