The fourth story ends
He Yanqing followed Song Xianle upstairs. After entering the house, Song Xianle put down her bag, sat on the sofa, and asked, "Are you thirsty?"
Song Xianle asked as he turned on the TV.
"Not thirsty."
He Yanqing took a quick look at the furnishings in the room, then sat down with Song Xianle. "When did you return to China?"
"In early September."
"This house was originally rented by one of my roommates, but she had to go back home to develop her career, and I happened to be back, so I moved in. We have negotiated with the landlord, and when her rent expires, I will renew it."
"I'm a little thirsty, let me drink some water." After saying that, Song Xianle got up and ran to the kitchen.
He Yanqing sat on the sofa, untied the scarf around his neck, and followed her back with his eyes.
When Song Xianle came back and put the water on the table, He Yanqing said coldly, "I went to Sukan in September and saw you at the airport."
Song Xianle stopped drinking water and asked in surprise, "On the 5th? Is it at Liaokai Airport?"
He Yanqing looked at the water cup, reached out and touched it, it was warm.
"Well, I was just about to go on a business trip to Sukan that day. I couldn't believe it at the time, but when you came to the company, I was sure that the person I saw that day was you."
Song Xianle seemed to be thinking about something, and said, "Did you ever think that I would return to China? Did you think that I would stay abroad to work?"
"I've thought about it."
"I thought you would return home, and I also thought you would stay there."
He Yanqing looked at her, his eyes deep, and his tone couldn't help but become low. "I also thought that you might fall in love, get married, and have children there, and maybe settle down there and never come back."
"Luckily you're back."
He Yanqing looked at Song Xianle, and a figure suddenly appeared in his mind: a woman in a khaki T-shirt, light blue jeans, and long black hair. But in the blink of an eye, she was back to the woman she was now, her face softened and composed by the passage of time.
From then on, there was a feeling that the dust had settled.
Song Xianle leaned on the sofa next to him, holding He Yanqing's arm, her head against his shoulder, and asked him, "Didn't you find a girlfriend during the time I was abroad?"
The proposition of death after getting back together with your ex.
He Yanqing looked down and saw Song Xianle's half-smile. He took one of her hands and squeezed it gently. "To be honest, I really don't have any."
"Why?"
"I don't like other people."
"Who do you like then?"
"I like you."
Song Xianle smiled triumphantly, "Oh, you like me so much?"
She sat up slightly and whispered in his ear, "I like you, too."
"He Yanqing, you're doing fine."
He Yanqing lowered his eyes and looked down at her. He placed his hand on Song Xianle's shoulder and then helped her push a strand of hair that fell on her cheek behind her ear. He bent down slightly, his dark eyes fixed on her red lips. "You are better."
"I want to kiss you." Without any transition, the words suddenly popped out.
The gaze was too intense. Song Xianle stared at him, her face slightly warmed, and she uttered a "hmm." Before she was ready, she felt a figure pressing down on her, the touch of his lips was obvious, pressing hard against her.
Song Xianle was held in He Yanqing's arms, with her arms around his neck. Her whole body softened into a ball, sitting on He Yanqing's legs. The entire hall was silent with only the sounds of breathing and sizzling.
"Don't...don't kiss here!"
As He Yanqing walked down, Song Xianle's collar was already half open, and the skin under her collarbone was covered with red marks. The strange touch made Song Xianle both addicted and shy.
He Yanqing raised his head, his usually calm eyes now tinged with lust, bold and fiery, his gaze sharp. He left that spot and continued upwards, his lips landing on Song Xianle's cheek, where he gently nodded.
At this moment, Song Xianle leaned completely against He Yanqing's chest, looking ready to be taken. A hint of black appeared through the loose clothing on her chest. A pair of large hands approached her, resting on her clothes and buttoning them.
After tidying up their clothes, the two hugged each other tenderly for a long time.
"I have to go back, otherwise it will be too late and I won't want to leave."
He Yanqing lowered his head to look at Song Xianle's sleepy face. Seeing that she was well-behaved, he lowered his head and kissed her.
"After I leave, go take a shower and have some sleep. I'll pick you up for work tomorrow."
"Okay." Song Xianle walked to the door to see him off, and the two hugged each other for a while before separating.
—
In the next few weeks, Song Xianle and He Yanqing lived the daily life of an ordinary couple, eating, watching movies, shopping, taking walks, etc.
It was almost the end of the year, and the company's business volume had increased a lot, so the two of them had another project: overtime.
"Finally, I can get off work." Song Xianle came to He Yanqing's side and asked, "What are we eating tonight?"
He Yanqing extended his hand, and Song Xianle immediately took his arm, somewhat excitedly saying, "Today is the 31st, let's celebrate New Year's Eve tonight!"
He Yanqing saw Song Xianle's excited look and said with a smile, "I've booked a restaurant. It's the new sky restaurant you mentioned last time."
Song Xianle thought, "That place seems to have a night view. I wonder how the food is and whether it's delicious."
It was a bit cold outside, with a light snow. He Yanqing held an umbrella with one hand, while Song Xianle leaned against him, continuing their previous discussion.
He Yanqing: "I saw it online and it received high ratings. The comments section all said it was pretty good."
"Then go give it a try." Song Xianle looked at He Yanqing and jokingly said, "You now also look at online reviews when choosing a restaurant. Didn't you just ignore them before?"
When they ate together before, if she didn’t know what to eat, besides taking her to places he had been to before, he would usually use the food delivery app to find newly opened restaurants.
However, He Yanqing rarely clicks into the comment section and only looks at the ratings.
The first few restaurants they chose didn't disappoint, and Song Xianle began to enjoy exploring new places. But then problems began to arise, with each one getting worse than the last. For the time being, they both stuck to eating at restaurants they'd already been to.
"Today is special, I must pay attention to it."
Song Xianle didn't think much about it, thinking that he knew it was New Year's Eve and wanted to give her a surprise.
The Sky Restaurant is called this because it is located high up in the sky and is also outdoors. However, outdoor seating is usually only available in spring and summer, and is closed in autumn and winter when it is too cold and snowy.
He Yanqing had come here to check it out beforehand. He had specially reserved a seat in a private room on the second floor of the restaurant, which not only offered a view of the night view but also provided good privacy.
As soon as the two arrived, the waiter led them to their reserved seats.
The dim light fell, and the dark yellow vision made people see things with a hazy beauty. Although there were no candles and red wine, there was already an atmosphere of a candlelight dinner.
He Yanqing asked Song Xianle to order the food. While she was ordering, He Yanqing answered a phone call, and after hanging up, he found an excuse to go to the bathroom.
"I'm going to the bathroom. You order first. Just order whatever you want. I can handle it."
Song Xianle guessed there would be a surprise, but she didn't reveal it. She smiled and watched him leave, "Go ahead, I'll wait for you to come back."
He Yanqing first went to the door to pick up the flowers, then went to the parking lot to get a bag, took out the ring box from it and put it in his pocket.
Returning to her seat, Song Xianle saw the roses and bag in He Yanqing's hands and knew that this was a surprise he had prepared.
He Yanqing handed her the flowers and the bag containing the gift.
Song Xianle looked at him and smiled, "What is this?"
He Yanqing thought about what he was going to do later, and said with a slightly uncomfortable tone, "Necklace."
"You've given me so many necklaces." Song Xianle muttered, took out the box and unpacked it.
Hearing Song Xianle's little complaint, he knew that it was not a good idea to give her another necklace, but he really couldn't think of what to give her.
Last month, he had given her a bag and lipstick, and later discovered that she had both, the exact same style and color, the exact same brand and shade, a duplicate of his. Later, he gave her a necklace to make amends, but it turned out to be correct; Song Xianle didn't have the necklace he had given her, and she loved it, so he decided to buy her another one.
Song Xianle took out a necklace, which was a pure gold necklace with a small golden rabbit pattern on it.
Rabbit is the zodiac sign of Song Xianle.
"Please help me put it on." Song Xianle handed the necklace to He Yanqing.
Song Xianle didn't wear a necklace today, but a scarf. He Yanqing took off the scarf first, then stood behind her and put on the necklace.
During this process, the waiters served the dishes one after another.
After the waiter left, He Yanqing walked in front of Song Xianle and said, "Actually, I have something else to give you."
Song Xianle saw He Yandan kneeling on one knee. He took out a ring box from his pocket and looked at her seriously. "I first noticed you when I was in my sophomore year. You came out of the library, looking down at your phone, and I was just on my way to the library. We happened to be the only two people on the street. I don't know what happened, but after we passed each other, I stopped and looked back at you.
One time in class, I saw that the seat behind you was empty, so I pulled my roommate over to sit behind you. We were chatting, and I deliberately brought up New Year's Day, because I was going to be performing on stage that day. I knew my roommate would definitely bring it up, and I could just go along with what he was saying. At the time, I didn't know why I did that; it was completely unconscious, out of my control. Now that I think about it, I just wanted to show off, to get your attention.
As Song Xianle listened to his words, some memories automatically came to his mind.
After coming out of the library, she was walking on the road and found a familiar figure behind her. She turned around and saw He Yanqing's back. At that time, Song Xianle's only impression of him was that he was a classmate.
There was a New Year's Eve party during her sophomore year. Song Xianle didn't go because He Yanqing mentioned it behind her; she didn't care who was sitting behind her. She wasn't interested in New Year's Eve parties, or any of the school-sponsored ones. That night, she and Zhu Yan had just returned from dinner and were about to go for a walk in the playground. The party was being held in the gymnasium, not far from the grounds. The lights were on, and the place was bustling. They went to watch, hoping to join in the fun.
Song Xianle started to notice He Yanqing at that evening party. He looked very focused when playing the piano on the stage. His fair face and moving melody left a deep impression on her mind. She felt that He Yanqing was still a charming person.
However, Song Xianle didn't expect that He Yanqing had started to have feelings for him so early. She thought she was the first to fall in love with him.
"You liked me since your sophomore year?" Song Xianle expressed his doubts directly to her face. "I thought it was during our junior year."
He Yanqing didn't expect that she would misunderstand him. It was true that when they were together, he didn't ask the other party when he liked him.
"I had a crush on you in my sophomore year, and it gradually developed into love in my junior year. At that time, a teacher's group project required us to draw lots, so we were assigned together. I wanted to take it slow. I was afraid telling you I liked you right away would scare you, so I wanted to use the group project as an excuse to get you to spend more time with me."
They were different then than they are now. Love in one's early twenties is immature, pure, and easily broken. They were at a crossroads. If one person were forced to compromise with the other, they might be together, but who knows if that would lead to disagreements and separation.
But now it’s different, they are on the same path.
He Yanqing opened the ring box and said seriously, "I've thought about it for a long time, wondering whether I should choose today to propose to you. I'm afraid you'll think it's too early. But I want to give it a try. I've anticipated the outcome of a failed proposal. If you don't agree, I can wait until you want to get married before taking out this ring. I respect your decision."
He took a deep breath and said solemnly, "Xianle, will you marry me?"
Fireworks have started to be set off in the sky outside the window, and the brilliant lights have attracted passers-by to look up and watch.
Neither of them paid attention to the noise outside the window.
At this moment, Song Xianle looked at the man kneeling on the ground, stretched out his hand, and said with a smile: "I do."
The fireworks were especially bright tonight, and all they saw was each other.
