Chapter 244 Military Marriage in the 1960s: Rural Wife is a Little Powerful (8)

The man cares about her, what else can Xin Guoguo say?

I could only nod happily.

After dinner, the two packed up and went out.

I walked from home to the infirmary, walking slowly, as if it were a way to digest the food.

After the infusion, it was already dark.

Under the night sky, the two walked one after the other.

Xiao Aiguo's eyes followed the little girl walking in front of him.

Xin Guoguo seemed unaware of the burning gaze.

All the way back home.

But outside his yard, he saw a few people chattering about something.

Seeing them come back, the voice stopped for a moment, and then someone came out:

"Hello, Captain Xiao, is this girl your wife?"

"Hello, sister-in-law." Xiao Aiguo nodded. "Let me introduce you, sister-in-law. This is my wife, Xin Guoguo. She's pregnant and new here. I hope you sisters-in-law can take care of her in the future."

"Pregnant?!"

A voice from the back exclaimed.

Everyone else looked towards that person.

The man immediately smiled awkwardly, lowered his head, and hid in the crowd.

Xin Guoguo recognized the man at a glance, both from his voice and his face.

Xiao Aiguo ignored the voice and just introduced Xin Guoguo: "This is the sister-in-law of Political Commissar Jia."

Political Commissar Jia's wife also smiled cheerfully: "Just call me Sister Jia. My maiden name is also Jia."

She and her husband are from the same village.

Xin Guoguo smiled and greeted him, then looked up at the person who had just exclaimed:

"I was not at home this afternoon, and this sister-in-law came to my house and knocked on the door, but I didn't open it. I happened to meet my sister-in-law here, so I didn't have to make another trip. I asked her what she wanted to talk to me about this afternoon."

The women who had gathered together all moved aside and looked at Liu Xiaomei with suspicion:

"Did you go to see him this afternoon?"

Liu Xiaomei wanted to deny it, but she couldn't guarantee that no one else saw her at that time, so she just didn't say anything out of embarrassment for a while.

This tacit attitude made others look at her in even more strange ways.

The look in Jia's sister-in-law's eyes darkened, and when she looked at Xin Guoguo and Xiao Aiguo, she smiled again:

"Don't worry, I'll be here for a long time. If you have any problems in the future, just let Guoguo come to me! I have something to do at home, so I'll go back first. You should also go back and rest early, it's so cold today."

Xin Guoguo also nodded obediently: "Hey! We'll be back soon. Goodbye, sisters-in-law."

The couple walked past the group of women, opened the gate, and returned home.

When the lights in the house came on, a group of women immediately pulled Liu Xiaomei away.

"Little Sister Liu, what's wrong with you?! Did you really hear something this afternoon, or were you just kidding? If you heard something, why did you go and knock on someone's door?"

"I...I..." Liu Xiaomei hasn't figured out how to make up her story yet.

Sister Jia glared at her:

"I think you just can't stand seeing others do well! I was so stupid as to believe you! Don't say such nonsense again! We are cracking down on this now. If you slander others, you will suffer the consequences!"

"That's right! The political commissar's family is right! Liu Xiaomei, you can't just talk nonsense here just because your man is competing with Xiao Aiguo for the deputy battalion commander position! The men used to rely on their own abilities, but when did our military region start using these low-level tactics?! What bad luck!"

"If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't have come. I'd have completely lost face!"

"Luckily this matter didn't get out of hand. If it had, your entire family wouldn't be able to bear the punishment! Okay! Hurry back!"

Mrs. Jia waved her hand and hurried home.

When she thought about how she had believed Liu Xiaomei's words like a fool and was freezing in the cold wind in the middle of winter, her face hurt!

The others dispersed.

Only Liu Xiaomei was left standing there, with the expression in her eyes alternating between light and dark.

Is it slander?

If there is evidence, can it still be called slander?

No one else knew what Liu Xiaomei was thinking.

When Jia's wife returned home and saw that her husband had returned, she couldn't help but tell him about this:

"It was late at night, and she said she heard someone having an affair. I was surprised. She heard it in the afternoon, so why did she say it at night? I didn't expect she was just making it up! Can anyone just come and go in this family compound as they please?"

Political Commissar Jia took off his military coat and warmed his hands by the stove. He looked at his son and daughter, who were bent over chairs and doing their homework, while talking to his wife:

"Don't bother with his family anymore. Those two have real issues with their character. Our military district has always had a good atmosphere, but it was messed up by those two!"

"Do you think I want to care about her?"

Mrs. Jia picked up the large aluminum kettle on the stove and poured water into the enamel basin.

"She keeps staring at other people's homes all day long and makes trouble for no reason. Who would want to bother with her?! If you hadn't told me to pay attention to Xiao Aiguo, I wouldn't bother with her!"

She is busy enough with all the things at home!

I poured half a pot of hot water into the basin, added a few scoops of cold water, stirred it with my hands, and tested the water temperature.

"Okay, wash your feet. The water is just right."

Political Commissar Jia took off his shoes and socks, sat on a bench and soaked his feet.

His wife had already walked over to the two children, looked at their homework progress, and told them,

"When you've finished writing, wash up quickly and turn off the lights immediately. We're running low on lamp oil, so use it sparingly."

The two children responded obediently: "I understand, Mom."

The political commissar's wife went off to do something else.

After a busy night, she was finally able to lie down in bed and rest after both adults and children had gone to bed.
