Chapter 325: The Siege in the Apocalypse (2)

Chapter 325: The Siege in the Apocalypse (2)

Wen Wan glanced around at the mess. Following the system's instructions, she walked for a while and found herself in a house. No one was home, but her belongings were all intact and hadn't been taken. There were even chickens in the chicken coop and pigs in the pigsty, though they seemed to be starving to death.

System: [There's always a way out. Host, you can rest here for a bit and then fill your stomach.]

Wen Wan took a shower first. Her body was a little stiff, but it was still within her tolerance.

Looking at myself in the mirror, my face was deathly pale. I pinched my own flesh, but I couldn't feel anything.

After quickly finishing my shower, I changed into clean clothes, dried my hair, and then prepared to eat.

I grabbed a chicken from the coop, resisted the urge to pluck its feathers, boiled water, chopped it into pieces, arranged them on a plate, and then started eating.

Even though she is now a zombie, Wen Wan has to stay rational and be a clean zombie, otherwise it will be too mentally torturous for her.

Snap...

Suddenly a sound startled Wen Wan. "System, did you hear anything?"

Wen Wan cautiously walked towards the room from which the sound came. "Is anyone home?"

Wen Wan opened the door to the room. It must be a child's room, with pink wallpaper. Wen Wan looked around and finally heard a faint crying sound coming from inside the closet. Wen Wan opened the closet and saw a little girl huddled inside crying. She was startled to see her like that.

"Little friend, what are you doing here? Is this your home?"

The little girl nodded.

"And what about your mom and dad?"

The little girl cried uncontrollably, “My mom and dad are dead and will never come back. My mom told me to hide here and not to make a sound or go out no matter what. Sister, please save me.”

The little girl clearly mistook Wen Wan for a human being, not a zombie. And indeed, she wasn't much different from an ordinary person.

Suppressing her desire, Wen Wan let the little girl out of the cupboard, then cooked some chicken for her. From the little girl, Wen Wan learned that her name was Qiqi, and she was the child of the house's owners. After the zombie outbreak, her parents had lured the zombies away to protect her, thus saving her life. However, how could a five-year-old child survive alone? She almost starved to death. Fortunately, no other zombies or other people came; the first one to arrive was Wen Wan.

Qiqi ate the meat in big bites. She was so hungry, but after eating half of it, although she was still not full, she pushed the bowl in front of Wen Wan and said, "Sister, eat. Qiqi is done eating."

Wen Wan shook her head. "Sister has already eaten. Qiqi, eat quickly."

After Qiqi finished eating, Wen Wan told her to change into clean clothes. "What are you planning to do in the future, Qiqi?"

Kiki shook her head. "Kiki doesn't know. Kiki doesn't have a mom and dad anymore. There are many monsters outside. Kiki is scared."

Wen Wan: I'm scared too.

Moreover, Wen Wan wanted to say that what she was most afraid of now was herself. Perhaps due to the disease, Wen Wan's sense of smell had become several times stronger, especially her craving for human blood and flesh. Several times she couldn't help but swallow her saliva.

"System, can you block my sense of smell and taste?"

System: [OK.]

After blocking her sense of smell, Wen Wan breathed a sigh of relief. Otherwise, she was afraid that she would lose control and bite the child, which would really be a terrible thing.

"Does Qiqi have any other relatives or friends she knows?"

Kiki shook her head. "I don't know."

Wen Wan could only take it one step at a time. She needed to get the child to a safe zone as soon as possible to protect him, otherwise the child would definitely not survive on his own. But she was a zombie! If she entered the safe zone, the child would be saved, but she would be doomed.

Zombies have their brains splattered; just imagining that scene makes Wen Wan shudder.

After finishing her meal, Wen Wan searched every corner of the house, then took out her suitcase and backpack, taking away some essential items she could carry, such as medicine, which was most scarce in the apocalypse, food that could be stored, clean water, and two fruit knives as weapons.

I also took two sleeping bags, two changes of clothes for Qiqi, and one of Qiqi's mother's clothes for myself.

But that's far from enough. With no fighting ability, a lowly zombie with a terrible identity, and a little kid, if she were to go out, she'd probably have to seriously consider her funeral arrangements.

Ultimately, the system also felt that the host's situation was too difficult, so it took out a storage ring.

Wen Wan slaughtered the pigs and chickens, dividing them into bags and putting them into her storage ring. She also took some clean bottled water, pots and pans, flashlights, lighters, and all her other belongings, along with all her changes of clothes, and even her toiletries...

Because of the storage ring, Wen Wan took everything she could, and even went to Qi Qi's vegetable garden and pulled up all the fresh vegetables.

Then, when the system said that zombies were about to arrive at this place, he left home with Qiqi.

However, after walking for about an hour, Qiqi couldn't walk anymore. Although she didn't say anything, Wen Wan could still see her difficulty. She took off Qiqi's shoes and found that her feet were covered in blisters.

Wen Wan could only carry the person on her back first.

"System, isn't there any means of transportation? If we have to walk to the safe zone, even I, a zombie, can't handle it, let alone a child."

System: [Host, refuel. You'll pass a gas station in about half an hour; there should be a car there.]

Wen Wan is numb.

Then, carrying the child on my back, I walked for another half hour. I did see the gas station, but I didn't see a car at all.

"Take a break and have something to eat first."

Wen Wan led Qi Qi into the gas station, then took out two packets of instant noodles, gathered some firewood to boil water, and casually made two packets of instant noodles on the spot. She gave a bowl to Qi Qi and said, "Eat up."

Wen Wan was also about to eat, but she had no sense of taste or smell, so she couldn't taste anything. She ate two bites and gave the rest to Qi Qi, while she drank half a bowl of fresh pig's blood to keep herself going.

"ah……"

"What's wrong?" Just as Wen Wan was lamenting her miserable situation, Qi Qi suddenly called out. Wen Wan looked over, then her eyes widened. The instant noodles she had handed to Qi Qi, which were still steaming hot, were actually... frozen.

Wen Yan: "???"

System: [This child has awakened a special ability, likely an ice-type ability. Currently, special abilities are roughly divided into several types: wood, water, fire, lightning, and ice. Wood-type abilities mainly involve healing and promoting the growth of trees and soil, generally used in logistics to ensure people have access to uncontaminated food. Water, fire, lightning, and ice-type abilities are all offensive. Special abilities are divided into five levels based on strength (basic, levels two through five) and A-level and S-level based on talent. Each level has three tiers. Based on my assessment, the child's ice-type ability is likely an AAA-level talent ability, which is quite good.]

Wen Wan understood, but was still surprised. "Then do you know how to train?"

The system gave Wen Wan a manual for people with superpowers, and Wen Wan felt that the system was suddenly exceptionally reliable at this moment.

After reheating the instant noodles, Wen Wan decided to help Qi Qi develop her special ability so that she could protect herself even when they reached the safe zone. After all, she couldn't stay with Qi Qi forever, and besides, she was still a weakling.
