Chapter 100
What would someone say if asked about their wishes?
Do you wish to obtain something? Do you wish to eat the food you crave? Or on a more macro level, do you wish to become more beautiful, wealthy, or taller?
In short, very few people would say: I want to go to heaven and pluck the moon from the sky.
Xu Shishi stared at the wish card Qin Su had written down, her expression a mix of sympathy and schadenfreude. In the end, all her thoughts boiled down to one sentence: "Su Su, you're amazing."
Qin Su returned the card to the little girl and said with a smile, "Go ahead and tell the person who gave you the card that I hope my wish comes true."
The little girl ran away.
A little while later, halfway through the meal, Xu Shishi suddenly said, "Su Su, you eat first, I'm going to the restroom."
Qin Su put down her chopsticks and glanced at her.
Xu Shishi felt a little guilty under Qin Su's gaze, as if he could see through everything. She said weakly, "I'm not feeling well."
Qin Su said slowly, "Then go ahead, but be careful not to get lost."
Xu Shishi smiled awkwardly and quickly walked around the restaurant to an office at the back.
She pushed open the door, and the people discussing things in the office all looked up at her.
Xu Shishi looked at the person sitting in the middle, standing out from the crowd, and said irritably, "I'm done here, it's your turn, Ye Yan."
Ye Yan ignored her attitude, picked up the invisible earpiece on the table, put it on, and said to the others, "Then let's proceed according to plan."
The others readily agreed.
Xu Shishi was somewhat surprised: "You already have a solution for the wish that Su Su just wrote down?"
Ye Yan didn't even blink and walked right past her.
Xu Shishi snorted and looked at the others in the office.
The others pretended not to see the rivalry between the two and smiled at her, saying, "It's a coincidence. One of our original plans was going to come in handy. Now we're just switching the order."
Xu Shishi was taken aback: "Your original plans included going to space?"
The others laughed and said, "We can't say yet, it's a secret."
"That's so mysterious," Xu Shishi muttered, dissatisfied. "Well, I'll wait and see what tricks they have up their sleeves."
It wasn't just Xu Shishi who was waiting to see; the celebrities and audience in the observation room weren't fools either, and they all sensed something from the previous little incident.
Zuo Fei asked curiously, "Did Xu Shishi arrange something? First, there were cards for making wishes, and now she's disappeared."
“She denied it herself,” Zhang Wenyan said. “There’s no need to lie about this kind of thing; it probably wasn’t her.”
Xiang Shuangshuang asked, "Is the production team planning something?"
“It’s possible,” Tan Ling analyzed. “It could be Ye Yan; he’s the only male guest who hasn’t appeared yet.”
"Huh?" Xiang Shuangshuang said, "Really? Today is Xu Shishi's date. If Ye Yan interferes, do you think she'll agree?"
Shi Yi boldly speculated: "What if the two of them made some kind of deal?"
After hearing this, Xiang Shuangshuang was no longer sure.
Zhang Wenyan smiled and said, "Compared to that, I'm more concerned about how to fulfill Qin Su's wish."
I'm interested in this too!
I'm stunned! Su Su really dares to write this! How does she think?
[I have a feeling it's Ye Yan. Didn't anyone else notice? Xu Shishi's date today was way too extravagant. That princess dress alone is way beyond the reach of most people. Who paid for it? The production team? It's unlikely that the production team would sponsored a single guest.]
[Wow, that makes sense. Did Ye Yan sponsor Xu Shishi, and Xu Shishi agreed to let Ye Yan add surprises during her date?]
[The prophet has been killed!]
[I don't know why, but these two seem rather strange together, like a loving wife and beautiful concubine living in harmony?]
[This guy's love for his wife and concubines is hilarious!]
Oh, here we go again!
Just as Xu Shishi slipped away and the audience was discussing it, the little girl who had come to deliver the wish card earlier returned.
The little girl was adorable and spoke in a very childlike voice: "Beautiful sister, are you ready to go?"
Looking at the child, who was barely taller than the table, Qin Su couldn't help but laugh and ask, "Where are we going? To pluck the moon?"
The little girl said, "Yes."
She reached into her pocket, pulled out a card, and handed it to Qin Su.
This time, the card was made to look like a train ticket, and the destination was even written as "the moon".
Qin Su showed interest: "You actually came up with a solution so quickly?"
“Let’s go then.” She stood up, straightened her skirt, and her tassel earrings swayed gently. “Let me see how this wish was fulfilled.”
The little girl skipped and hopped to lead the way. As soon as the two of them left the restaurant and went down the steps, a fluffy white Samoyed came towards them.
The Samoyed, carrying a pink and white rose in its mouth, charged over headfirst, crashing into Qin Su's ankle and falling flat on its back.
The puppy seemed to be in a daze after falling down, holding up its four little paws, and the rose in its mouth fell to the ground with a "plop".
Qin Su smiled, squatted down and patted the puppy, then picked up the rose and found a small piece of paper stuck in the center of the rose.
The paper was written in tiny, neat characters: Please choose any road.
The restaurant where Qin Su and Xu Shishi ate was located in the center of the entire amusement castle. To the left was the carousel area, to the right was the Ferris wheel area, and straight ahead was the tourist leisure and photo area.
Without a second thought, Qin Su walked straight ahead.
The tourist leisure and photo area is most lively after dark, with all kinds of small carts and stalls everywhere, as well as salesmen dressed in mascot costumes selling things.
Qin Su had walked a dozen steps when an auntie selling things from a cart by the roadside called out to her with a smile, "Beautiful lady, would you like one?"
Qin Su stopped and joked, "Is this also part of the process of Heaven?"
The aunt couldn't help but laugh. She quickly made a large ball of dough and handed it to Qin Su, saying, "You need clouds to go up to the sky."
Qin Su tentatively took a bite of the thing, which was as big as her head, and said with certainty, "Then the road to heaven is quite sweet."
[Hilarious! This beautiful woman has a good sense of humor.]
[Is the weight-bearing capacity of this cloud measured in grams?]
Everyone here understands physics and science.
Then, on this road, which is less than two hundred meters long, Qin Su was stopped by different stall owners one after another.
There are sugar figurines shaped like boats, supposedly for her to cross the Milky Way; there are chocolate bars longer than an arm, said to be her magic staff; there are star hair clips that light up, supposedly for her to use as streetlights; and there are flower baskets woven from willow branches, meant to save all living beings...
Every few steps Qin Su took, strange and new things awaited her ahead.
She wasn't walking; she was searching for some treasure, opening different boxes to reap different surprises.
The castle lights twinkled in the night, casting colorful glows on Qin Su, making her glow.
She moved through the crowd and beams of light, paused, and continued on her way, a single glance and a smile overshadowing everything else.
[So beautiful! This place is so beautiful!]
[Who understands? As I watched, I had a vague feeling that she really was just briefly staying on Earth, and was about to return to the moon.]
Is this what they mean by a fairy visiting the mortal realm at night?
The person who designed this part was so thoughtful!
Even the most beautiful scenery has an end.
Although Qin Su walked and stopped frequently, she quickly made her way out of the leisure street.
By this time, she was already carrying a lot of things, and thankfully she had the flower basket to hold them, so it wasn't too difficult for her to carry them.
After exiting the tourist leisure street, there are different roads: the left is the lighthouse, the right is the haunted house, and going straight leads to the water rafting.
Qin Su continued walking straight as usual.
However, the water rafting is a nighttime activity that is closed, and the surrounding area is deserted with no one around.
Qin Su stood by the railing, looking down at the dark stream of water, and chuckled, "Why isn't there a guide this time?"
"Because this is the end." A familiar voice sounded from behind.
Qin Su turned around and, unsurprisingly, saw Ye Yan.
He stood in the shadows, only his outline visible, his facial expression indistinct, yet his gaze seemed tangible, as if to drag the person looking at him into an abyss.
Qin Su smiled slightly: "I thought you had laid out more groundwork, but it turns out this path is so short."
Ye Yan walked up to her and said, "It's probably because you chose the shortest route."
Qin Su: "So, there are surprises in other places?"
“Yes.” Ye Yan paused, looked at her, and said softly, “They are still there and will wait until the end of today.”
Qin Su raised her dark eyelashes, met his gaze, and curled her lips into a beautiful smile, her expression enchanting and alluring.
"That's a shame, I just like to keep moving forward."
[It really is Ye Yan! The lady in front guessed right!]
[Wait, what's wrong with these two people talking? At first glance, it seems fine, but there's something deeper about it.]
[Oh my god, me too! I'm so nervous I can barely breathe!]
[I'm confused. It's just going back to check the date schedule, why is it acting like I'm asking if I want to go back to an ex?]
[...The conjecture above is chilling upon closer examination.]
After Qin Su answered, a brief silence fell between the two of them.
Finally, Ye Yan spoke first, saying calmly, "Alright, so as not to waste your time."
Qin Su didn't continue the topic. She acted as if she hadn't heard anything, and just had a brief, ordinary conversation before moving on.
"Isn't this to fulfill a wish?" Qin Su smiled and looked at the moon in the sky. "Reach for the moon in the heavens? Can we do it now?"
Ye Yan said, "Okay."
Just as he finished uttering the word "good," a crackling sound of fireworks lighting up came from afar.
Sparks flew and smoke billowed as several hot air balloons rose slowly, and cloud-shaped fireworks raced at an astonishing speed from the dark ground toward the crescent moon in the night sky.
The clouds were designed in different colors, rising one after another, as if some unseen people were riding the clouds and flying into the sky.
As the clouds rose to their highest point, the scene suddenly changed, and a golden moon rose up, hanging high in the sky.
The moon created by the fireworks appeared alongside the real crescent moon in the night sky, echoing each other.
Everyone still in the amusement castle was astonished by the sight, and exclamations of surprise echoed from all directions.
"Look, look!"
"Two moons in the sky!"
"Holy crap, what is that?!"
"Fireworks and the moon! So beautiful!"
"Chang'e flying to the moon!"
"Take a picture quickly, take a picture! Good luck to anyone who sees this!"
The clouds and the moon lingered in the sky for about a minute before vanishing amidst everyone's gaze, leaving behind a shower of dazzling, radiant light that fell upon the earth.
Qin Su looked up and smiled, "So this is what it means to reach for the moon in the heavens. It is indeed beautiful."
Ye Yan stretched out his hand into the void, and the light of the fireworks descended from behind him, creating a sense of dislocation in the blurry night, as if he had caught the falling moon.
He lamented, "It's a pity that neither the real moon nor fireworks will stay for the human world."
***
The internet was flooded with news reports about the fireworks that night, with many saying it was a stunning "double moon in the sky." Videos taken from different angles were going viral, and the angle taken by the well-prepared program team was naturally the most perfect.
Many people who didn't watch variety shows before learned about the show through this fireworks video, further increasing the show's popularity.
Logically, this should be a good thing, but the atmosphere inside the main recording venue of the show—the Heartbeat House—is gloomy, a stark contrast to the outside world.
There was no other reason than that this variety show had finally come to an end.
The grand fireworks display marked the end of "Meeting Your Heartbeat".
Qin Su had to make her choice that night.
All communication equipment has been handed over, and each guest has been led into a different room.
The camera was divided into eight squares, with four female guests on top and four male guests below, eight beautiful faces displayed on the same screen.
The director used a megaphone to announce the final procedures to the guests.
"Based on the ranking of the number of dates, Qin Su, as the guest who has been invited the most times, has the first choice. If the other guests are ranked the same, they will be sorted according to the first letter of their surnames. After Qin Su has made her choice, we will let everyone know that the next guest can start making their choice. Please pay attention."
"If you want to choose a guest, just knock on the door of the room with the guest's name on it."
"Before you begin making your selections, please give your prepared gift to the staff, who will then pass it on to the designated recipient."
"Does anyone have any questions? If not, please select 'Start' in ten minutes."
The room where the guests were was completely silent.
A short while later, staff members carried seven gift boxes into Qin Su's room and placed them in a row on the table.
The atmosphere today even made the staff lose their usual smiles. She asked softly, "Do you want me to open it for you?"
Qin Su shook her head and said, "I'll do it myself."
The boxes were all provided by the production team and looked identical; you could only find out who sent the gift after opening it.
Her hand rested on the first box, paused for two seconds, but did not move.
Staff member: "Susu, what's wrong?"
Qin Su: "Can I not open them now?"
The staff member asked in surprise, "You're going to start making choices without opening the gifts?"
Qin Su said, "Yes."
The staff member hesitated for a moment: "Wait a minute, I can't decide this, I need to ask the director."
She stepped away from the camera, went to a corner, and explained the situation over the walkie-talkie. A moment later, she returned to Qin Su and said, "Yes, you can make a choice first."
Qin Su stood up and opened the door to the room.
