Chapter 12
Ye Yan finally resigned himself to his fate and went into the kitchen, rolled up his sleeves, and made breakfast himself.
When adding sugar to the soy milk, he couldn't find a tool to measure the amount in grams, so he had to add it tentatively, with an attitude more cautious than when signing a multi-billion dollar company contract.
Twenty minutes later, Qin Su sat down at the dining table, and Ye Yan had just finished serving the food.
Qin Su picked up the soy milk, tasted it, and her brow furrowed.
Ye Yan felt inexplicably nervous and stared at her, asking, "How is it?"
Qin Su looked up at him and asked, "Would you like to try some?"
Ye Yan reached for his own cup, took a sip, and pondered, "I think the sweetness is just right."
Qin Su: "But I feel that less than twelve grams of sugar were added."
After washing up, she changed her clothes again. It was still a red dress, but the style was a little different from yesterday's, and it looked more casual.
The silver tassel earrings she wore dangled from the bow on her shoulder strap, and when she turned her head occasionally, they shone brightly, complementing her beautiful face.
The previous casualness and gentleness vanished in an instant, like morning dew, replaced by an imposing aura and an unapproachable, aloof elegance.
Ye Yan was somewhat displeased with her words: "You mean it doesn't taste good?"
If Qin Su says it doesn't taste good, then he'll tell her to make whatever she wants to eat from now on, and never ask him to make it again, so he won't have to do all the work for nothing.
Twelve grams? Who needs such precise data just to drink soy milk?
Qin Su glanced at him and remained silent.
In Ye Yan's view, this meant she was admitting that the drink didn't taste good.
That's outrageous.
Ye Yan thought, "This is the first time I've cooked for someone, and she actually complains that my soy milk isn't sweet enough?"
Based on her attitude, there will absolutely be no next time.
After Qin Su slowly finished eating a sandwich, she saw that Ye Yan still had that stormy look on his face, so she rested her chin on her hand and smiled: "President Ye, what's wrong with your temper? I didn't say anything, but you look like you're going to eat me alive."
Ye Yan held his breath, not wanting to talk to her.
Qin Su chuckled, stood up, walked to his side, picked up his cup of soy milk, swirled it around, and then took a sip in front of him: "Hmm, not bad, yours is quite sweet."
Ye Yan: "..."
He stared at the cup of soy milk that had been placed back in front of him, and his throat moved.
Those unhappy feelings dissipated easily, like a morning mist.
Qin Su: "But my cup really wasn't sweet enough. Remember to add more sugar next time. After all, I can't always rely on President Ye to increase the sweetness."
What kind of talk is this? What do you mean by adding sweetness by relying on him?
Ye Yan wanted to put on a stern face and tell Qin Su to stop saying such strange things, but in the blink of an eye he saw Qin Su taking out lipstick from her bag and applying it.
Her slender, fair fingers held the golden square tube, which rested on her rosy lips. Her lips had a faint moisture on them, probably from being moistened with soy milk.
Ye Yan paused for a moment, then looked away to cover up his embarrassment, and said calmly, "...Then I'll have someone buy a precise measuring cup later."
It's just twelve grams, it's not a difficult thing.
Qin Su noticed the change in his expression and wanted to laugh, but she knew that Ye Yan would be furious if she laughed, so she held back.
Only after she got into the car did she burst into unrestrained laughter at the system.
"Tong'er, did you see that?"
Qin Su gripped the steering wheel, not in a hurry to drive, laughing heartily.
"How can Ye Yan be so innocent? I thought that even if he wasn't a seasoned player in love, he should at least be quite knowledgeable. I never expected this..."
The system searched the information of this world, tilted its head and meowed: "According to the data, Ye Yan has indeed never been in a relationship before."
Qin Su laughed and said, "Does this even need to be investigated? It's obvious at a glance."
Seeing that she was in a good mood, the system quietly asked its question: "Su Su, so is there really not enough sugar in that cup of soy milk (less than 12 grams)?"
Qin Su brushed her hair aside: "Are you kidding me? How would I know if it melted?"
System: "Huh?"
"Tong'er, don't you understand? What I want is never 12 grams of sugar." Qin Su set the navigation, started the car, and smiled gently. "It's to make him remember my preferences."
...
Qin Su went out today to meet the Qin family.
It was understandable that she didn't see her family at the Ye family banquet on her first day back in China, but it was unacceptable that she didn't see them on the second day either.
However, in Qin Su's opinion, this was just a formality.
After all, in the original owner's memories, the Qin family members were extremely estranged from each other.
Compared to the Ye family, whose large size and numerous members were due to the chaotic private lives of their elders, the Qin family represents the other extreme.
Qin's parents had a business marriage and both had their own careers. They only had time to have Qin Su and her brother Qin Yao in order to appease both sets of parents.
After giving birth, they felt they had fulfilled their duty and then abandoned the responsibility. Qin Yao grew up with his father's elders, while Qin Su was raised by a nanny.
Mr. and Mrs. Qin are frequent flyers, traveling all over the world and having no time for their family. The Qin family can only get together once a year.
This time, Qin Su said she was going to see the Qin family, but she was only going to see Qin Yao.
The meeting place Qin Yao arranged was a high-end club near his company. When Qin Su arrived, Qin Yao had not yet come.
The system circled the room, then tilted its fluffy little head to look at the European-style crystal chandelier above.
"Susu, this lamp is so pretty!"
Qin Su casually looked up and immediately noticed something: "This light is intelligently controlled."
The system exclaimed in surprise, "These fancy-looking lights can actually be controlled intelligently? I thought this kind of technology didn't exist in this era."
Qin Su thought for a moment: "It shouldn't be too complicated."
Seeing that the system seemed quite interested, she took a picture of the light and then explained it to it on her phone.
When Qin Yao opened the door, he saw Qin Su engrossed in playing on her phone and didn't even look up when she heard him come in.
He sat down with an unfriendly expression and tapped on the table.
Qin Su then looked up at him.
The moment Qin Yao saw Qin Su clearly, he was stunned for a moment, and a look of amazement flashed across his face.
He took some time yesterday to watch the interview with the Ye family and felt that his sister had changed a lot, but since it was through the camera, the feeling was not obvious. He was shocked when he met her in person today.
So much so that for a fleeting moment he began to doubt himself.
Was his sister really that beautiful back then? How come he doesn't remember?
He certainly couldn't think of anything unusual.
From the moment Qin Su entered this world, the laws governing this world had already silently blurred the image of Qin Su in everyone's memories.
People might think she's changed, but there's nothing specifically different about her.
After all, even the same face can have drastically different effects depending on the skin tone, expression, bone structure, posture, and temperament.
It's quite normal that Qin Su's personality has changed so drastically, giving people a different feeling.
People tend to be more tolerant of extraordinary beauty, and Qin Yao's indifferent expression softened slightly.
He didn't waste any words and simply took out a card and pushed it to Qin Su: "There are 20 million in here, you can keep it."
Someone giving you money for no reason should make you happy, but Qin Su didn't touch it.
With her dark eyelashes lowered, she glanced at the card and asked in a normal tone, "What does this mean?"
Qin Yao said calmly, "Your parents and I all hope that you can start trying to conceive and have a child soon."
"Preparing for pregnancy and childbirth." Qin Su repeated these words between her lips, getting straight to the point, "So having a daughter is also acceptable?"
Qin Yao frowned slightly: "Qin Su, don't ask questions you already know the answer to. Both the Qin family and the Ye family hope that you will give birth to a boy."
Qin Su scoffed: "Whoever wants to have a baby can have one, don't talk to me about it."
Qin Yao frowned even more: "Qin Su, who taught you to talk to me like that?"
“You’re not a child anymore, don’t throw a tantrum.” He emphasized, advising, “You are still surnamed Qin. Our family has fallen far behind the Ye family in recent years. Only when the Ye family is in Ye Yan’s hands can we maximize our benefits. But the Ye family’s situation is complicated. If you don’t give birth to a son soon, it will be too late to have one if the situation changes.”
His meaning was quite clear: Ye Yan having a child would make his position as CEO of the Ye Group more secure, and in return, the Qin family would receive more benefits.
Qin Su was fully aware of all these intricacies.
Her gaze swept across Qin Yao's face, and she suddenly said with a half-smile, "You're right, I am, after all, surnamed Qin."
Qin Yao thought she had taken his words to heart and felt somewhat relieved.
Qin Su then asked, "So if I break ties with Ye Yan, will the Qin family support me?"
Qin Yao's expression froze.
Qin Su, seemingly oblivious to others' expressions, pressed on, "Really?"
Qin Yao was displeased by her aggressive attitude and warned in a low voice, "Qin Su."
He said coldly, "A married daughter is like water spilled from a cup; you and Ye Yan cannot break off your relationship."
He didn't know why Qin Su would ask such a naive question, but he clearly had to make it clear upfront: "What the Qin family needs is Madam Ye, not Miss Qin who has returned home in a sorry state."
Mrs. Ye, Miss Qin—listen to these two distinct forms of address.
Qin Su found it laughable, and so she actually laughed too.
She wondered if Qin Su, when she was trapped in a painful and fruitless unrequited love, facing her nominal husband and cold room all day long, had ever thought of seeking comfort from her family.
You must have thought about it.
Unfortunately, her relatives believed that once a daughter is married, she is no longer part of the Qin family; from the moment she married into the Ye family, she was no longer a member of the Qin family.
The family she married into was a complicated place with no one who truly cared for her. Her own family, to whom she was related by blood, was cold and indifferent, treating her as an outsider and telling her clearly that there was no way out.
No wonder she died in despair.
Qin Yao felt there was a strange irony in her smile and frowned, "What are you laughing at?"
Qin Su stood up and looked down at him condescendingly: "It's nothing, I just think you're in for some bad luck."
Qin Yao was baffled and scolded, "Qin Su, I think you're crazy..."
Before he could finish speaking, Qin Su, impatient to sit down any longer, grabbed her bag and left.
She stopped at the door, opened it with one hand, and tapped her phone a few times with the other.
Just as Qin Yao was about to get up and call out to her, he suddenly heard a "bang" from above.
The magnificent chandelier suddenly shattered, shards of glass scattering everywhere like a shower of petals. Qin Yao couldn't dodge in time and suffered several cuts on his face from the broken glass.
The waiters in the corridor were startled by the commotion in the private room and rushed in, comforting Qin Yao while urgently calling for medical personnel.
"What's going on?"
"The light was checked just last night, how could it suddenly explode?"
"Call the doctor right now!"
"Sir, sir, how are you?"
Amidst the chaos, Qin Yao, filled with shock and anger, inexplicably turned around and glanced back.
Qin Su stood expressionless outside the crowd with her arms crossed. When she saw him looking over, she curled the corners of her lips and mouthed something in the distance.
Qin Yao's pupils contracted as he recognized what she said.
—See, I told you I'd be unlucky.
