Chapter 6
Meanwhile, Ye Yan was on his way to the Ye family's old residence.
Ding Bo was driving in front when he thought of the suitcase in the trunk. He glanced at Ye Yan, who was handling official business, through the rearview mirror.
Ye Yan went to the airport to pick someone up, but found no one there. Qin Su left her suitcase with Ye Yan and left. Ye Yan thought that, given his temper, he would just throw the suitcase away. But to his surprise, Ye Yan stared at the suitcase for a few seconds and then told him to put it away.
Tsk tsk, this isn't like President Ye's usual style.
"What are you looking at me for?" Ye Yan said casually as he swiped the screen, seemingly with eyes on the top of his head. "Just drive."
Ding Bo blurted out, "I miss my wife."
Ye Yan paused, looked up at him, and although his face was expressionless, his eyes gave people a heavy sense of oppression.
Ding Bo then realized that his words were ambiguous, and he was so frightened that he quickly tried to make amends: "...I wonder how to respond to the media if Madam doesn't attend the family banquet."
When it came to serious matters, his expression became serious.
The Ye family is a large family with many offspring. Ye Yan's father, Ye Hongchang, has married four wives. His fourth wife had been married for less than two years. Ye Yan was born to his third wife and was Ye Hongchang's youngest son.
Although they are father and son, Ye Yan is 24 years old this year, while Ye Hongchang is already 79 years old. The age difference is almost equivalent to that of a grandfather and grandson in an ordinary family.
Ye Yan has three older sisters and five older brothers, all born to Ye Hongchang's two previous wives. His eldest sister is over fifty years old this year, and looks like she is from a different generation than Ye Yan when they stand together.
Two months ago, Ye Hongchang developed a small tumor in his stomach. After undergoing surgery, he stayed in the hospital for a period of time, which led to a lot of rumors circulating outside. People said that Old Master Ye was dying, that the Ye family was fighting over his inheritance, and that Ye Yan's siblings were joining forces to bring him down.
Ye Hongchang was very unhappy to hear this news, so he informed the media early on that the Ye family was going to hold a family banquet, and instructed the entire Ye family to be present today.
To put it bluntly, the old man held this family banquet today to show outsiders that he is in good health, that with him in charge, Ye Yan's position is secure, and that the Ye family will not fall into chaos.
At this critical juncture, if Qin Su doesn't go, and Ye Yan, who has been married for less than a year, appears alone, who knows what kind of nonsense people will write.
Ye Yan's nephews and nieces are all troublemakers, and they will definitely try their best to sow discord between Ye Yan and Ye Hongchang.
After figuring out these key points, Ding Bo couldn't help but worry about Ye Yan.
"Mr. Ye, should I call Madam again and ask?"
Ye Yan glanced at him.
Ding Bo said in a low voice, "After all, a person's personality can't suddenly change so completely. In my opinion, Madam is just acting out of temper and wants you to coax her."
Ye Yan frowned and said coldly, "I never lie to people."
Ding Bo: "..."
Look at what you're saying! I know you're a chosen one, but you don't have to be so arrogant.
But as an employee, Ding Bo didn't dare to talk back to his boss to his face, so he had to call Qin Su on his own initiative. Afraid that his boss wouldn't be able to hear the conversation, he even put it on speakerphone.
The phone rang for quite a while before Qin Su finally answered it, lazily saying "Hello."
Just as Ding Bo was about to speak, deafening music came from across the street. Judging from the noise, it was either a bar or a disco.
Ding Bo froze, his prepared words stuck in his throat.
Amidst the music, a girl shouted, "Susu, what are you doing? Come here!"
"Right away," Qin Su replied.
Then she asked Ding Bo, "What do you want from me?"
Ding Bo: "..."
He tried to regain his composure: "Madam, it's like this, perhaps I didn't explain it clearly to you before, regarding today's family dinner..."
He had barely begun to speak when Qin Su interrupted him: "Where's my suitcase?"
Ding Bo paused for a moment: "Don't worry, Madam, the suitcase is in the car. I was just going to talk about today's family dinner..."
Qin Su ignored him completely: "Put your suitcase away. My friend is calling me. We'll talk about it when we get back."
Ding Bo hurriedly said, "Ah? Madam, Madam..."
With a "click," the call ended, and Qin Su hung up the phone.
Ding Bo was dumbfounded, and he subconsciously looked at Ye Yan.
Ye Yan's face was grim, and his expression was clearly not good.
Ding Bo was surprised to be proven wrong so quickly and said awkwardly, "I didn't expect that Madam would have changed so much after returning from her six-month trip abroad."
After graduating from high school, Qin Su studied abroad. She returned to China more than half a year ago to marry Ye Yan. She stayed in China for a month before returning to Chongqing to complete the last stage of her studies.
When she left, Ding Bo drove her home. He still remembered Qin Su at that time. She smiled gently at him, said goodbye politely, and spoke softly and shyly when she asked him about Ye Yan.
Who could have imagined that in just half a year, that person, who was as graceful as a lotus flower, would become this dazzling and glamorous person?
Ye Yan slammed the laptop shut, a hint of anger flashing between his brows: "Throw her suitcase away after we park the car."
He was so foolish that he brought his suitcase onto the car and dutifully helped her pack it.
Instead, she made plans to go out with her friends to eat, drink, and have fun.
Ding Bo felt rather embarrassed and tried to smooth things over by saying, "Perhaps, perhaps Madam has made an important appointment with a friend and can't refuse."
Ye Yan said coldly, "Important matters to be arranged at a bar or nightclub?"
Ding Bo shut up.
What else is there to say? Qin Su clearly had no interest in the Ye family's banquet.
The atmosphere inside the car fell into complete silence.
As they approached the Ye family's old residence, Ding Bo, seeing that Ye Yan's anger hadn't subsided, cautiously inquired, "Perhaps we could try contacting the Qin family? After all, if it's the Qin family, Madam will always..."
He had intended to say that Qin Su would listen to the Qin family, but before he could finish speaking, he suddenly thought of Qin Su's current behavior and realized that was not necessarily true, so he couldn't say anything more.
Ye Yan saw that he was stuck and knew what he was thinking. Just as he was about to sneer, he raised his hand and bumped into the shelf next to him. There was a spare bottle of perfume on the shelf, which was knocked over along with it.
The perfume he uses is a custom-made one, with a cool-toned cedar scent. He uses the same perfume at his company, home, and car.
He was already used to it and had never thought there was anything special about this perfume before.
However, upon seeing it, Ye Yan instantly remembered what had happened when he picked up Qin Su earlier.
He paused, then looked down at the back of his hand.
The skin there still seemed to retain the warmth of her touch, and the fragrance of her scent when she was close still lingered in my breath.
The lingering anger from before quietly subsided. Ye Yan pinched the bridge of his nose and said wearily, "Forget it, it's not worth disturbing the Qin family. I'll figure something out when we get there."
Ding Bo had never seen Ye Yan's emotions change so quickly before, and couldn't help but wonder to himself. He said aloud, "Then please go straight in when we arrive. I'll take care of my luggage and go back to the company. I'll have the driver pick you up later."
Ye Yan remained silent for a moment before saying, "No need."
Ding Bo was momentarily confused: "Doesn't President Ye need a driver to pick you up?"
Ye Yan: "I meant suitcase."
Ding Bo looked up in surprise.
Ye Yan had already lowered his eyes to deal with the files again, so his expression was unreadable.
