Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Ye Yan was absent-minded all afternoon.

The little yellow duck he was holding was on his desk, its big black eyes staring straight at him, and its pouting beak looking incredibly cute.

This was clearly an ordinary doll, but Ye Yan's mind conjured up another face of unparalleled beauty.

That face suddenly drew near, like a wild goose treading on snow, leaving a soft and fragrant imprint on his heart before drifting away again.

The brand seemed to be burning hot all the time, making him restless.

He waited patiently until six o'clock, then immediately stood up.

Ding Bo happened to come in to deliver his files and was somewhat surprised to see that he was even wearing a coat.

Ye Yan usually works until 9 or 10 pm before going home. Why is he home so early today?

He hesitated and said, "Mr. Ye, I'll leave these files here for now, and you can look at them tomorrow."

Ye Yan paused, glanced at the thickness of the documents, and sat back down: "No need, let's finish approving them today. You can come and pick them up later."

This delay meant that by the time he got home it was already past eight o'clock.

At eight o'clock on a summer night, the sky was already dark, but not completely dark. The dark red sunset and the lingering inky blue sky merged together, reluctantly hanging on the horizon.

As Ye Yan stepped out of the entrance hall, he saw a faint golden light shining in through the French windows, illuminating Qin Su's long, flowing hair.

Qin Su was lying on the sofa, already asleep.

This scene is very similar to the one in many heartwarming movies and TV dramas, where a husband comes home from get off work and sees his wife waiting for him, looking tired.

Ye Yan paused, stopped in his tracks, and called out softly, "Qin Su?"

Qin Su did not respond.

Ye Yan walked over and looked down at her.

The living room was dark, with only a little natural light that cast a halo around Qin Su's eyelashes, as if sprinkling a layer of gold dust on her thick eyelashes.

Her pale skin rested on her jet-black hair, her features bright and unparalleled.

Especially her eyes, which, though usually sparkling and naturally captivating when she looks at people, now appear only exquisite and pure.

It turns out that someone who is so flamboyant and arrogant when awake can look so gentle and quiet when asleep.

Ye Yan was unaware that a slight smile had unconsciously crept into his eyes.

He reached for the thin blanket hanging on the sofa, intending to cover Qin Su with it, but his waist tightened.

He turned his head and saw that Qin Su had grabbed the hem of his clothes.

Her eyelashes fluttered, as if she were struggling against drowsiness.

What time is it?

Her voice was hoarse from sleeping, still heavy with drowsiness, as she asked him, "Have you eaten?"

Qin Su actually took the initiative to care about him?

Ye Yan's heart softened, and he lowered his voice as well: "It's past eight o'clock. I'll eat later. Do you want to continue sleeping?"

Qin Su mumbled something and stretched out her arms to him: "Carry me back to bed."

Ye Yan: "..."

Qin Su seemed puzzled as to why he hadn't moved. She struggled to half-open her eyes, glanced at him, then closed them again, urging, "What are you doing? Hurry up."

Ye Yan took a silent breath and tried his best to calmly pick her up in his arms.

But when her soft, boneless body pressed against his chest, he couldn't help but shudder.

Ye Yan had never been in close contact with a girl before, and he wondered if all girls were so soft and gentle.

It's as light as a feather, almost weightless, yet it makes you feel a subtle itch deep inside.

Although Ye Yan remained calm on the surface, he was actually in a daze.

So much so that he didn't realize he was in his own room until he put Qin Su on the bed and covered her with the blanket.

"..."

Ye Yan glanced at Qin Su hesitantly, considering whether he should carry her to the next room again.

Qin Su rolled over, still half asleep, and mumbled, "There's food in the restaurant, but it's all cold. You can heat it up yourself."

Qin Su even cooked him a meal?

Ye Yan was truly shocked.

He didn't care that Qin Su was sleeping in his bed and that he had to sleep in a different bedroom tonight. He quickly and quietly left the room, closed the door, and went to the dining room.

Sure enough, four dishes were placed on the plain-colored dining table in the restaurant, all covered with dust-proof food covers.

He lifted the lid and looked inside. The dishes were beautifully presented, and even though they were cold, they still smelled delicious.

Qin Su can cook? And she looks pretty good at it?

And, and it was made for him...

So, was she on the sofa earlier waiting for him to eat and then fell asleep?

Ye Yan stood in front of the dining table, his heart filled with emotion.

He hadn't experienced this kind of emotional feeling in many years.

Ye Yan silently reheated all the dishes and sat down at the table to eat alone.

During the meal, he even felt that every dish inexplicably suited his taste and was filled with familiar warmth.

He even ate an extra half bowl of rice to show that he cherished it.

But shortly after he finished eating, as he was about to go to the gym, his landline suddenly rang.

In a modern world where almost everyone uses mobile phones, landlines are generally only used for property management and housekeeping communications.

Ye Yan answered casually and said "Hello".

"Qin... uh, is this Mr. Ye?" The person on the other end of the line seemed a little surprised.

Ye Yan recognized the voice as that of the chef.

Hearing him mention the name Qin, I guessed he might have discussed dining arrangements with Qin Su, so I said, "Yes, Qin Su is asleep. You can tell me if there's anything you need."

The chef said, "Ms. Qin asked me to cook dinner today to see if it suited my taste. She said she would call me tonight to discuss future precautions, but I haven't received a call from her. I'm not sure how to prepare the dishes for tomorrow. What do you think..."

Ye Yan casually picked up the microphone: "Okay, then I'll ask her later, about her today..."

He paused, then suddenly realized something was wrong.

A thought flashed through Ye Yan's mind, and he pressed on, "Did you cook for her tonight?"

The chef, puzzled, replied, "Yes, I made four dishes and a soup."

Four dishes and one soup...

Four dishes...

Ye Yan slowly turned his head and glanced at the restaurant, his expression gradually freezing.

He still clung to his last shred of hope and asked, "Which four dishes did you make?"

The chef announced the names of the dishes one by one.

He probably found Ye Yan's question strange, so he cautiously asked, "I noticed Miss Qin seemed quite happy while eating. Is there a problem?"

Of course she was happy!

She wasn't eating leftovers!

No wonder, no wonder he said the taste of this dish was so familiar.

It was made by the chef he always used, so how could he not be familiar with it?

Four dishes and one soup?

So she actually drank the soup?

Ye Yan gripped the phone tightly, wishing he could beat up his past self who had been so moved and surprised just half an hour ago.

He thought Qin Su was doing it on purpose.

She must have done it on purpose.

She pretended to be asleep, giving him a gentle illusion that made him think she had cooked the meal.

Now that I've calmed down and thought about it carefully, how could someone with her temper possibly cook for herself?

He's completely out of his mind, daydreaming!

The chef tentatively asked, "Mr. Ye?"

Ye Yan was about to explode with pent-up frustration.

He answered almost word by word: "No problem."

After the chef hung up the phone, Ye Yan turned and walked towards the bedroom.

He wanted to wake Qin Su up and confront her face to face.

This is outrageous! He has never eaten someone else's leftovers since he was a child!

However, when he reached the bedroom door, he suddenly stopped.

He recalled Qin Su's tired expression earlier...

What if she didn't do it on purpose, and was just too sleepy to think clearly and forgot to tell him?

Won't it disturb her sleep if he wakes her up so rashly based on guesswork?

Ye Yan frowned.

As he was pondering, the door in front of him suddenly opened from the inside.

"What are you doing here?" Qin Su seemed startled by him.

Without waiting for Ye Yan to speak, she said directly, "Is there something you need? If not, go and pour me a glass of warm water."

"..." Ye Yan gave her a deep look, and then swallowed his anger and went to get her a glass of warm water.

Qin Su leaned against the door, slowly drank half a glass, handed the glass back to him, and then said, "What are you doing standing here so quietly so late at night?"

Ye Yan was treated like a nanny by her, which actually made him calmer than before.

He said directly, "You told me there was food in the restaurant while you were sleeping."

Qin Su thought for a moment, as if she remembered: "Yes, that's right, have you eaten?"

She knows!

She knew it all along!

She did it on purpose!

If emotions could be visualized at this moment, Ye Yan's head would be steaming. He couldn't hold back any longer: "That's leftovers!"

Qin Su asked, puzzled, "Do you have mysophobia?"

A vein throbbed on Ye Yan's forehead: "I didn't, but you can't make me eat leftovers!"

Qin Su didn't understand: "Is it because it doesn't taste good?"

Ye Yan: "..."

Unable to argue with Qin Su, he resorted to fighting fire with fire, asking in return, "Then do you eat leftovers?"

Qin Su shrugged: "I'm not eating."

Ye Yan had never felt so exhausted: "...Then you'll let me eat it?"

Qin Su raised an eyebrow: "Didn't the chef tell you? From now on, our family's dinner time will be set at 7 o'clock. If you come home late, you'll only be able to eat leftovers."

Ye Yan: "..."

He remained silent for a moment, not considering whether Qin Su was indirectly asking him to go home early, but instead strangely seizing on the loophole in her words.

"I came back late?" he cut to the chase. "What if you came back late?"

Qin Su raised her chin and said matter-of-factly, "Then of course we should tell the chef to change the dinner time."

Ye Yan: "..."

So, in the end, he's the only one in the family who gets to eat leftovers, right?

What kind of unequal treaty is this?

He was so angry he almost laughed. Just as he was about to say absolutely not, he saw Qin Su smile.

She had just taken a nap, and her fluffy hair was slightly messy, with a few strands playfully hanging down beside her cheeks, adding to her languid charm.

She asked slowly, "President Ye, you really don't eat leftovers?"

Ye Yan replied decisively, "Of course."

Qin Su nodded her lips and smiled, "Did you drink the soy milk I had this morning?"

Ye Yan was stunned, his gaze unconsciously shifting to her lips.

"..."

Not satisfied, Qin Su continued, "Did you wipe your mouth after I left your office this afternoon?"

"..."

A few seconds later, Ye Yan slammed the door shut and fled in panic.

Qin Su, who was locked in his bedroom, tried to hold back, but finally couldn't help but burst out laughing.

The system perched on her shoulder and gave her a thumbs-up with its pink cat paws.

Wow, that's impressive.

That's what you call killing two birds with one stone!
