Chapter 97
It's no exaggeration to say that the moment they jumped, Jin Xiao didn't even have time to close his eyes. The intense feeling of weightlessness and fear made his vision go completely dark, and his mind went blank.
For a couple of seconds, he could see and hear nothing, only the sound of the wind whistling past his ears.
It wasn't until Qin Su in his arms leaned back, almost half an arm's length away from him, that he realized where he was and snapped out of his dazed state.
"Jin Xiao!" The wind was strong, and even though the wind was so close to her ear, Qin Su had to shout, "Do you want to take a look?"
Jin Xiao opened his eyes.
He looked directly into Qin Su's clear black and white pupils.
The two of them were falling rapidly between heaven and earth. Whether it was blue sky and white clouds or tall buildings, they were just blurry halos and patches of color. Even the sunlight seemed broken and weak, like different ink stains left by paint.
Only her eyes still reflected the shadows of everything so clearly, with the outline of half the city shimmering in them.
Jin Xiao seemed to be lost in some kind of grand dream, staring at Qin Su without blinking, his heart pounding faster than when he was about to bungee jump.
He looked like he was terrified, so Qin Su waved her hand in front of him and said, "Hey, Jin Xiao!"
Jin Xiao blankly uttered a questioning syllable, "Huh?"
Qin Su patted his arm: "You can let go of me now, we've landed."
Jin Xiao snapped back to reality and realized that he and Qin Su had landed on the cushioning airbag, with a staff member on each side supporting them, and the production crew's cameras were filming them.
He quickly withdrew his hand, his face flushed, and said, "I'm sorry, I forgot."
Qin Su showed no discomfort when jumping from the height, and said while untying the ropes binding her, "I understand, after all, it's your first time playing."
Jin Xiao wanted to explain that he wasn't scared out of his wits by bungee jumping, but he was afraid Qin Su would ask what it was, so he decided to keep quiet.
Qin Su asked the amusement park staff member who was observing their situation, "Are there any restaurants or drink shops in here?"
The staff member was a girl, and she blushed as soon as she saw her, saying shyly, "Yes."
She gave Qin Su directions: "Go straight from here, and there's a milk tea shop when you turn at the second intersection."
"Okay," Qin Su smiled politely at her and said, "Thank you."
The girl was so amused by her laughter that she almost fainted. Only after she and Jin Xiao had walked quite a distance did she stomp her foot in frustration. Oh no, she forgot to say "you're welcome"! Would the goddess think she was being rude?!
Once seated in the milk tea shop, Qin Su ordered two iced drinks and a dessert, which she then pushed towards Jin Xiao.
"Have something sweet to calm down," she said, taking a sip of her milk tea. "You look like a game crashed due to a bug."
Jin Xiao touched his face: "Am I really that stupid?"
Qin Su reached out to the crew members next to her and asked for the close-up photos they had taken during their bungee jumping.
Jin Xiao leaned closer and saw that his carefully styled hair from the morning was flying in mid-air. He was expressionless, and his gaze at Qin Su was unfocused. Qin Su, on the other hand, was in the same frame as him, but her long hair was flying, she was relaxed, and her expression was extremely well-controlled. Even in the photo, she looked amazingly comfortable and beautiful.
He clutched his forehead and groaned, "He's even dumber than I imagined!"
Qin Su sneered, "You want to try contemplating life in the blink of an eye? Putting aside whether this counts as a blink of an eye, it would be difficult for you to think in your current state, wouldn't it?"
Jin Xiao thought for a moment, then grinned and said, "But I really have thought about it."
Qin Su thought he was being stubborn: "What have you been thinking about?"
Jin Xiao said, "Think about whether I like you."
Qin Su remained calm despite the direct confession, tapping her milk tea cup: "It sounds like a conclusion has already been reached."
Jin Xiao said, "It's like when people sometimes flip a coin to make a choice. What's important is not whether the coin lands on heads or tails, but your inclination at the moment you flip the coin."
"I suddenly realized that whether it was a matter of life and death just now is not important; what matters is what I was thinking at that moment. And then I realized that I still love you so much."
Qin Su asked, "Are you sure that what happened just now wasn't the suspension bridge effect?"
Jin Xiao gently shook the milk tea in one hand, making the pearls inside the cup sway back and forth, in order to ease his tension: "I think, if the suspension bridge effect exists, bungee jumping is not the suspension bridge, but you are. As long as you are here, even if I am walking on flat ground, I will have the same feeling."
Most people would feel inexplicably guilty or even become reserved if they couldn't respond to such a heartfelt expression of emotion, but Qin Su had no such concerns at all.
She leaned back in the chair behind her, one shoulder slightly tilted, her black curly hair piled up on her snow-white shoulder, its vibrant color unrestrained.
Seeing that she remained silent for a long time, Jin Xiao assumed she was rejecting him and felt somewhat disheartened. He ran a hand through his hair, forced a smile, and said, "It's okay, I was just expressing my feelings. You don't have to respond..."
Qin Su interrupted him: "You are indeed my type."
Jin Xiao froze.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but no words came out. His head was buzzing, and he couldn't breathe. He felt like he was walking down the street and being hit on the head with gold, incredibly lucky.
Qin Su smiled at him and added, "But it's just that type. You're too young, and there's too big a generation gap between us."
In an instant, one could fall from heaven to hell. Jin Xiao suddenly stood up, the chair scraping against the floor with a screeching sound, startling the people in the milk tea shop.
"I don't mind!" Jin Xiao ignored everyone else, slammed his hands on the table, and spoke incoherently in his anxiety, "Besides, I'll be getting old soon, I, I'll be twenty soon."
Qin Suping said gently, "Don't misunderstand, it's not that I'm afraid you'll mind, it's that I mind myself."
Jin Xiao's words were all stuck in his throat, and he stood there blankly, at a loss: "Then why..."
Why did you tell me you like my type?
Before Jin Xiao could finish asking his question, he met Qin Su's bright and beautiful eyes, which were as clear as obsidian, and suddenly had a flash of inspiration, realizing something in an instant.
Because he seemed too aloof to Qin Su today, and his words and actions were too straightforward and left no room for negotiation, Qin Su was afraid that he wouldn't understand, so she unusually spoke her mind clearly.
That statement about liking his type was probably just a consolation, to make the subsequent rejection seem less awkward.
Jin Xiao's face turned from red to white, and finally he said in a muffled voice, "I won't give up."
Then she left with red eyes.
