Chapter 21: The Arrogant and Overbearing Eldest Daughter of the Marquis's Mansion × The High-Ranking, Powerful, Childless Regent

So, the diarrhea after eating has nothing to do with her!

Xiangzhu served Gu Chaoxi a bowl of soup.

Just then, the system spoke up to warn, "Host, don't drink it! This wicked woman has put croton seeds in all these dishes; she wants to give you diarrhea!"

Gu Chaoxi paused, "Alright, you can go now, I'll eat by myself."

Cook Sun was secretly pleased with herself. "Eat up, eat up. She'll have diarrhea after eating. Let's see if she dares to eat so well next time."

She answered and swayed out.

Gu Chaoxi didn't touch the dishes, ate some congee, and instructed Xiangzhu to put the dishes on the table away.

Xiangzhu didn't understand, but she obediently did as she was told.

Lu Zhao arrived that evening. Gu Chaoxi hadn't been eating well these past few days, so he made time to come and keep her company almost every day.

Seeing Gu Chaoxi's increasingly gaunt face, Lu Zhao felt extremely distressed and wished he could take her place, but he was helpless and could only hold Gu Chaoxi and patiently coax her to eat something.

In the evening, Chef Sun, no longer as arrogant as she was during the day, brought out plate after plate of exquisite dishes, including meat and vegetables, soup and snacks. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious.

She stood there without leaving. As usual, Lu Zhao would reward Gu Chaoxi with silver if she ate more. This was also one of the reasons why Chef Sun didn't prepare a proper meal for Gu Chaoxi at noon.

The cook thought that Gu Chaoxi had eaten so much good food at noon, and she would definitely not be able to eat much of it at night, which was a real pity. She should let her take it back for an extra meal.

Lu Zhao served Gu Chaoxi a bowl of soup. She took a couple of sips with a spoon and then instructed Xiangzhu to bring out the lunch dishes.

After Xiangzhu brought out the three meat dishes, Gu Chaoxi said to Chef Sun, "The dishes at noon were too greasy, I didn't eat them, you can take them down and eat them."

Cook Sun's expression changed slightly, but she remained calm. "I already had a simple meal in the kitchen."

What a joke! She put almost half a pound of croton seeds in these dishes. How could she possibly eat them willingly?

When Lu Zhao heard that Gu Chaoxi hadn't eaten anything at noon, he felt heartbroken and coaxed her gently, "Since you can't eat this, just ask the cook to make something else. This pork trotter looks greasy to me. If you don't know how to cook it, then don't stay on the mountain."

The second half of the sentence was addressed to Chef Sun.

Gu Chaoxi pressed Lu Zhao's hand, signaling him not to blame the cook. "Cook Sun originally only made me vegetables and steamed egg custard. I was not satisfied and insisted on eating meat, so she made these."

Before Chef Sun could grasp the meaning behind Gu Chaoxi's words, Lu Zhao extracted the key information: Chef Sun had only prepared vegetables and steamed egg custard for lunch.

Seeing the sumptuous dinner spread out on the table, a balanced mix of meat and vegetables, complete with nutritious soup and fruit, Lu Zhao understood everything. This cook, Sun, was two-faced; she would skimp on his meals during the day when he wasn't home, but deliberately prepare much better food for him when he returned at night.

His gloomy gaze fell on Cook Sun, "You only served the master vegetable and egg custard for lunch?"

Cook Sun quickly cried out her innocence, "No! Look, I made braised pig's trotters, pork tripe and chicken soup, and stir-fried beef. You see, the young lady didn't touch a single bite. I told her that pregnant women shouldn't eat too much meat and should eat a light diet."

Although Lu Zhao had never given birth, he was not stupid. A child needs to grow in the mother's womb. Xi'er was eating for two people. Where would she get the nutrition from just eating vegetables and egg custard?

Seeing that he was about to lose his temper, Gu Chaoxi gently shook his arm and softly advised, "Let it go. Chef Sun has only done this two or three times. I already punished her at noon and made her redo it. If you're angry, then punish her by making her finish all the dishes from noon and not waste any."

Lu Zhao frowned, about to ask what kind of punishment this was, and whether it was a reward or not. But when Gu Chaoxi winked at him, Lu Zhao understood and suppressed his anger.
