Nan Zhi covered her eyes, unable to look at the hideous zombies. She said fearfully, "They are so ugly, their mouths are so dirty, they are hideous."
I didn't expect this zombie to be so obsessed with appearances.
Everyone was amused by her reaction.
Jian Yihan followed the instructions and locked Nan Zhi in a cell.
There was a small glass window in the door, through which one could see what was happening inside.
Just as Jian Yihan was about to leave, he saw Nan Zhi tapping on the glass and asking him, "Professor, where is the professor?"
The little zombie anxiously searched for the professor she was talking about.
Jian Yihan understood that she was looking for Ji Yuan.
Although he didn't know why she was so dependent on Ji Yuan, Jian Yihan had no right to ask.
He didn't answer her, but instructed the prison guards to keep an eye on her before turning and leaving with his subordinates.
After Jian Yihan left, Nan Zhi was all alone in the cell. Looking at the bare walls on all four sides and listening to the frantic shouts around her, she was so frightened that she huddled in a corner, clutching her iPad and trembling.
Prisoners are not allowed to eat normally, they only occasionally receive some nutritional fluids. As for zombies, no one cares whether they are hungry or not.
Only the prison guards get to eat once every two weeks; the rest of the time they just drink nutritional fluids.
Today was not their mealtime, and they were surprised to find that staff members delivered food to them during dinner.
They thought it was a treat for them, but the meal was delivered to 099's cell door, meant for the female zombie.
A zombie actually needs to eat?
The prison guards stared enviously at the delicious food; if it weren't for the chips implanted in their bodies, they probably would have already rushed over and snatched it.
The food delivery staff received instructions from their superiors that the female zombie in cell 099 had a huge appetite and they had to watch her finish eating before they could leave.
But when the food was pushed in through the window, the female zombie who had been sitting in the corner only looked up once before listlessly lowering her head and showing no other reaction.
The staff waited for a long time, thinking she was scared, and even went a little further away. They came back half an hour later, but she still hadn't come to eat.
He had no choice but to report it.
Upon receiving the call, Zhang Lu said, "Don't worry about her, she'll eat. You can collect the dishes tomorrow morning."
The staff member replied that they had received the message and then pushed the food cart away.
After hanging up the phone, Zhang Lu hesitated for a moment.
But these are just minor matters. If she reports them to Ji Yuan, she'll probably be questioned about her work ability.
And what if that zombie doesn't eat for a meal? It won't starve to death.
After thinking it through, she felt relieved.
At first, Ji Yuan felt a little uneasy that the little zombie wasn't around. He would subconsciously look for her, but when he found she wasn't there, he remembered that he had locked her in room number five.
No one reacted, so it seems she was alright.
When he got busy, he completely forgot about the little zombie.
Ji Yuan has a lot to do every day.
Aside from inspecting work sites, he spends most of his time in the laboratory studying experimental data.
He convened a meeting and summoned all medical professors to the public laboratory to analyze the materials from Nanzhi. However, after studying for a day and a night, they still had no clue.
Seeing that they were too tired, Ji Yuan told them to go back and rest, and continue the research tomorrow before ending the meeting and returning to the villa.
The living room on the first floor remains the same as before.
He glanced at the sofa and coffee table that hadn't been thrown away yet, and subconsciously wanted to call Zhang Lu to deal with them, but unexpectedly Zhang Lu called at the same time.
Zhang Lu's voice was clearly not calm. "Professor Ji, something has happened."
Ji Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly. "What is it?"
Zhang Lu said in a panic, "That zombie seems to be dead."
Ji Yuan hung up the phone.
When Zhang Lu saw Ji Yuan again, she noticed that his expression was very cold, his brows were tightly furrowed, and his thin lips were completely devoid of any curve.
She had never seen him like this before.
I couldn't help but feel a little scared.
Ji Yuan rarely went to cell number five, and even when he did, he was always wearing protective clothing. But this time, he didn't put it on and walked straight toward the prison gate.
Zhang Lu, carrying the sealed protective suit, jogged after him: "Professor Ji, the protective suit?"
Ji Yuan ignored her completely and walked in without wearing protective clothing.
Zhang Lu was taken aback and quickly followed.
In cell 099, the little zombie lay motionless in the corner, eyes closed, without breathing or pulse, and could not be awakened no matter what was done; it was no different from being dead.
She was still clutching the iPad tightly in her hands, as if it were something very important.
Everyone else was afraid she might suddenly wake up, so they didn't dare get too close.
Ji Yuan, however, was not afraid of her at all and walked towards her.
He crouched down and looked at her; she was exactly the same as she had been the day before yesterday.
What exactly happened?
"...Zhi Zhi?"
He called out tentatively, but there was no response.
"There's food."
There was still no response.
He glanced back at the ground not far away, where yesterday's food was still laid out, untouched.
Ji Yuan's thin lips tightened further as he coldly glanced at Zhang Lu beside him. "She didn't eat. Why didn't she tell me?"
Zhang Lu hadn't expected things to be so serious. Naturally, she didn't want Ji Yuan to have a bad impression of her, so she immediately shifted the blame to the food delivery person and the prison guards.
"Professor Ji, I don't know either; they didn't report it."
Ji Yuan's eyes turned cold, and the prison guard chief was terrified.
He wanted to refute Zhang Lu's words, but she was Professor Ji's assistant, and a higher rank could have an advantage, not to mention that she was more than one rank higher.
