"Ji Yuan, you dare!"
Caught off guard by a gunshot to the knee, Ji Ting collapsed to his knees.
Dark red blood meandered beneath him; he was in excruciating pain, his face deathly pale, staring at Ji Yuan in disbelief.
"You...you unfilial son, aren't you afraid of doing this—"
Another scream rang out, and Ji Ting's other knee also buckled to the ground.
Next, the elbow.
Ji Ting could no longer stand and collapsed to the ground.
His forehead was covered in cold sweat, which streamed down his face, but his gaze toward Ji Yuan remained unrepentant.
He gritted his teeth and said, "Ji Yuan...you actually like a zombie...you're doing this to me for her, are you...crazy?"
"Yes, I've gone mad!" Mentioning Nan Zhi, Ji Yuan felt a sharp pain in his heart. His eyes turned bloodshot, and he grabbed Ji Ting's hair fiercely, his gaze ruthless. "Today, I'm going to do something outrageous and show you just how crazy I am!"
Ji Yuan's expression suddenly turned cold and calm, and the smile on his lips was particularly chilling.
Ji Ting sensed something was wrong.
As expected.
Ji Yuan said coldly, "Take him to the Eternal Base. I have a good show to put on, and I want everyone to see it."
Ji Ting's face darkened: "Ji Yuan, what exactly do you want to do?"
His hands were covered in blood. He reached out to pull Ji Yuan up, but Ji Yuan stomped on his foot as he turned around.
Ji Ting's hand bones ached so badly they felt like they were about to shatter, and he curled up in pain.
If the previous parts were child's play, then what followed was what truly broke Ji Ting down.
Ji Ting once set up a fighting arena in the Eternal Base, and anyone who disobeyed would be sent to the fighting arena.
The beasts inside were not other ferocious animals, but zombies that everyone feared.
No one who goes in can carry weapons; they must fight the zombies with their bare hands. If they win, they can come out, but if they are scratched even slightly by a zombie, they will become its food.
Ji Ting used to enjoy watching from outside the paddock, but now he has become the object of the observation.
The area outside the paddock was already packed with spectators, many of whom were his former subordinates. Now that he had fallen from power, they showed no regret; instead, they cheered with glee.
Ji Ting looked up and saw that the spot where he used to sit had been removed and replaced with a new one.
That was bad enough, but Ji Yuan even had someone spray perfume on it.
After spraying, Ji Ting assumed that Ji Yuan would come and sit down.
Unexpectedly, he brought a zombie to sit in that spot.
Ji Ting was so angry that he wanted to curse.
Is Ji Yuan trying to tell him that in his mind, he's no different from a zombie?
No, he's worse than a zombie!
That unfilial son! If I had known, I shouldn't have kept him alive until now. I should have killed him sooner!
When Ji Ting saw Ji Yuan appear, he became visibly agitated.
"Ji Yuan!" he roared angrily, enduring the pain, "How dare you kill your father! Aren't you afraid of being ridiculed by the world?"
"Who's laughing?" Ji Yuan looked down at him condescendingly.
After he finished speaking, the surroundings fell silent; not a single person laughed.
Ji Ting, not wanting to see this scene unfold, continued to fan the flames: "You've fallen for a zombie, and you're actually willing to kill me for her? Who would respect you for this?"
Upon hearing this, the surrounding area fell silent for a few seconds, followed by hushed whispers.
"Really?"
"I heard that's true. After that little zombie died, Professor Ji searched everywhere for her. Although that little zombie was good-looking, she was still a zombie after all..."
"My God, I thought Ji Yuan would be different from Ji Ting, but I didn't expect them to be both freaks..."
Ji Ting watched all of this with satisfaction.
He had previously worried that more people would know about Ji Yuan's feelings for that little zombie.
But now, all he sees is greed for power.
As long as he regains power, he can discard all notions of blood ties.
"Is that so?" Ji Yuan coldly swept his gaze over those who were gossiping about Nan Zhi being a zombie. "Since you all hate zombies so much, why don't you go down and keep Ji Ting company?"
After Ji Yuan finished speaking, no one dared to say another word.
But in their hearts, they felt that Ji Yuan and Ji Ting were no different.
Ji Ting knew they were dissatisfied and wanted to continue sowing discord when he heard a calm voice.
"Who said Professor Ji's sweetheart is a zombie?"
A familiar voice came from behind, and everyone turned around to look.
The footsteps grew clearer with each step, and then everyone finally saw a head emerge from the other side of the steps.
With short, choppy hair and a handsome face, Jian Yihan was wearing a black work jacket.
Jian Yihan and his younger brother disappeared more than a month ago when the incident occurred at the base.
No one expected to see him again.
Ji Yuan looked back, but there was no change in his expression. Just as he was about to look away, he suddenly saw a bright figure appear behind Jian Yihan.
His pupils contracted, and he stood up.
Slowly, the figure bypassed Jian Yihan and appeared completely in front of him.
A familiar face, head slightly tilted, looking at him with dark, bright eyes.
Ji Yuan watched this scene with trembling pupils.
He felt as if all the blood in his body had frozen. He wanted to move, to go forward and confirm if it was her, but his feet seemed to be glued to the floor, and he couldn't take a step.
Two images flashed before his eyes: one of her smiling radiantly at him now, and the other of her looking at him with blood streaming down her forehead and her eyes blurred with tears.
The two images gradually merged, and the world spun around them.
It looked like it was raining.
Liquid streamed down his cheeks and splattered on the ground, as if something struggling to hold on was shattering, each sound clearer and more painful than the last.
That familiar, beautiful, unchanging little face drew closer and closer.
A hand waved in front of him.
"Professor, professor..."
Ji Yuan tentatively reached out his hand, feeling that everything was just a bubble that would burst at the slightest touch.
So he hesitated and dared not touch it.
The next moment, my hand was suddenly grabbed.
The girl rubbed her hand against his palm. "Professor, your hands are so sweaty. Let me wipe them for you."
She pulled his hand to rub against her clothes, but unexpectedly bumped into a broad, cold embrace.
Listening to his rapidly beating heartbeat, Nanzhi sensed his deep unease.
She nestled in his arms, feeling that the atmosphere was strange. He didn't speak, and she didn't know what to say either, so she just stayed close to him obediently.
There was no sound around them, and everyone stared at them curiously.
No, perhaps he was just staring at Nanzhi alone.
Even Ji Ting below stared incredulously at Nan Zhi's pupils, which were no different from those of a normal person.
I know everyone is confused.
Jian Yihan, who was not far away, was not surprised at all and explained, "Don't worry, she's not wearing colored contact lenses, so she's not a zombie anymore. If you don't believe me, you can turn on your zombie alarms and see if they still go off."
