Once everyone had arrived, Pei Minxue spoke up, "Lu Xiuyuan passed away last month."
"How could this be?" Shang Huai did the math. Lu Xiuyuan was only forty years old this year. How could he have passed away?
"There was a landslide, and he was buried while trying to save others."
Shang Huai sighed, seemingly somewhat surprised.
Shang Huai asked, "Did he leave anything behind? We'd like to keep an eye on things for him."
Pei Minxue shook his head. "He has no wife or children and has always lived alone. He usually teaches at the school in town."
Lu Xiuyuan had at least passed the imperial examination with top honors, and the school was packed with students.

"Brother Minxue, how have you been all these years?"
Pei Minxue nodded, "It's great. Last year, I had two grandsons and a granddaughter. The year before last, I became a grandfather."
Shang Huai congratulated him, saying, "Brother Minxue is truly blessed."

Shang Huai was unwilling to listen to this. "Alright, my doorstep has been worn down by matchmakers for the past few years. Brother Min, please let me off the hook."
Shang Huai frankly said, "The person I want to marry in this life doesn't want to marry me. We're all at this age now, and I don't want to cause trouble for others anymore. It's fine as it is now."
Shang Huai adopted many children who had become orphans during the war and raised them in the Marquis's mansion as if they were his own children.
Shang Huai suddenly added, "Anyway, my family doesn't have a throne for me to inherit."
