Chapter 449 Utter Disappointment

Despite the fact that the Second Prince had been brainwashed by Xie Qi and Yuan Chengyu for a long time.

But the thought of suddenly turning against his own father, the emperor, still made the second prince's legs weak.

Xie Qi and Yuan Chengyu stood guard outside the bedchamber, while the Second Prince went in empty-handed.

Yuan Chengyu remained outside, holding a tray of torture instruments.

Yuan Chengyu glanced at Xie Qi helplessly, "He's just not up to par. Even after all this pressure, he still can't bring himself to do it."

The instruments of torture were all prepared, but just as they were about to enter, the Second Prince said that he wanted to go in and have a good talk with Emperor Pei first.

The second prince hoped to influence Emperor Pei with his sincerity, rather than resorting to such cruel methods.

Yuan Chengyu was about to explode on the spot, but Xie Qi restrained him.

Xie Qi first praised the Second Prince for his filial piety, and then agreed with the Second Prince's idea.

"We can't push him too far; the Second Prince isn't a complete fool."

Yuan Chengyu rolled his eyes. "I just wanted things to get over quickly, didn't I?"

Inside the bedchamber, the Second Prince stood guard by Emperor Pei's bedside, waiting for Emperor Pei to slowly wake up.

When Emperor Pei woke up and saw the Second Prince beside him, he wasn't particularly surprised.

The second prince helped Emperor Pei to his feet, and Emperor Pei called for servants to attend to him.

The second prince immediately replied, "Let your son serve Father."

The second prince took the clothes from the side and somewhat clumsily helped Emperor Pei put them on.

"Father, do you have an appetite? Would you like something? I'll have someone prepare it."

Emperor Pei shook his head. "Go to that cabinet over there and get me two pills."

The second prince did as he was told and poured another pot of water.

Emperor Pei swallowed the pill in one gulp and immediately felt refreshed.

"Father, shall we summon the imperial physician to examine you?"

Emperor Pei shook his head and refused, "I know my own body; I don't have many days left to enjoy my health."

After saying this, Emperor Pei was somewhat out of breath.

The second prince hesitated for a moment, "Father, it's not right to always leave the affairs of the court to the cabinet ministers."

Upon hearing this, Emperor Pei looked up at the Second Prince and asked, "What do you mean by that?"

The second prince's expression was somewhat stiff, but he finally spoke, "What I mean is that Father Emperor, there are some things that need to be planned in advance."

Emperor Pei replied, "No rush."

The second prince had originally hoped to influence his father.

He went through so much trouble to rescue his father, he's already hinted at it to this extent.

As a result, Father Emperor actually said there was no rush?

Is it that there's no rush, or that Father Emperor has already given up on making plans?

The second prince could not accept that in his father's eyes, he was not even as good as a child of ten years old.

"Father, have you even considered my request for a moment?"

"Father, don't forget, if it weren't for your son, you would still be in Chang Le's clutches."

"Now, are you just going to turn your back on me like this?"

The second prince stood up excitedly, "I have done my utmost for you, but what about you?"

"To serve me wholeheartedly?"

Emperor Pei leaned on the table and stood up. "Is it for me, or for my throne?"

The second prince said with dissatisfaction, "Father is not going to live much longer anyway, so someone has to sit on the throne, right?"

"I am the only adult and capable prince by my father's side. If I don't sit, am I supposed to let those young lads sit here?"

"I know what's going on with the throne. It's not your place to come before me and force me to make you the heir."

Although Emperor Pei had been in a daze these days, he had been pondering to whom the throne should be given.

Logically speaking, it should be given to the second child.

But Emperor Pei always believed that Chang Le might not be dead.

Chang Le's death was too easy; there may be hidden reasons behind it.

The second brother rescued him with ease; everything went too smoothly.

Firstly, Emperor Pei was worried that Pei Zhi's death was suspicious.

Secondly, Emperor Pei was also worried that his second son would not be able to hold onto the throne.

She's too easily swayed and not quick-witted enough.

Xie Qi and Yuan Chengyu are neither easy to deal with; the two of them together are enough to give the second brother a run for his money.

The other princes were not yet grown up, and their character could not be discerned.

The problem is, Emperor Pei knows that he doesn't have many days left to live.

He's forcing himself to stay healthy and doesn't dare to easily take out the imperial seal.

"It's not your turn?"

The second prince grabbed Emperor Pei by the collar and asked, "Is it because it's not your turn, or because Father Emperor has already planned to appoint someone else?"

Emperor Pei was already at his limit, and when the Second Prince suddenly grabbed him by the collar, he couldn't utter a single word.

"Since Father Emperor refuses to accept the toast, then don't blame your son for being ruthless."

The second prince shouted, "Yuan Chengyu, bring in the instruments of torture!"

Yuan Chengyu pushed open the door, carried in the instruments of torture, and placed them on the coffee table beside him.

Yuan Chengyu explained to the Second Prince, "These instruments of torture for the Second Prince are meant to cause pain, but they won't kill you."

The second prince nodded: "Thank you for your trouble."

Before leaving, Yuan Chengyu gave Emperor Pei a sarcastic smile.

Emperor Pei looked at the instruments of torture on the tray and burst into laughter.

He laughed until he was breathless, and the Second Prince, fearing that Emperor Pei might stop breathing, quickly let go of his hand.

Emperor Pei slumped to the ground, his eyes still fixed on the instruments of torture on the tray.

These instruments of torture look so familiar.

It was the one Yuan Chengyu used on him before.

"Father, I do not wish to lay a hand on you. If you will make me the Crown Prince now, I will serve you well in the days to come."

Emperor Pei scoffed, "Do you really think that just because I've made you emperor, you'll actually become the emperor?"

"Stop talking nonsense. Produce the imperial seal now, and I will write the imperial edict myself."

Emperor Pei shook his head helplessly, his eyes filled with disappointment as he looked at the Second Prince.

Upon seeing the familiar instruments of torture and the smile on Yuan Chengyu's face as he left, Emperor Pei knew that Chang Le was definitely not dead yet.

Unfortunately, no matter what he says now, the second son won't listen.

"I can make you the crown prince, but before that, you must kill Xie Qi, Yuan Chengyu, and me."

“Bring me their heads, and I will grant you an imperial edict.”

The second prince said impatiently, "Father, you're overthinking it."

"Xie Qi is about to become my brother-in-law, so there's nothing to doubt about him."

"As for Yuan Chengyu, I don't have many military officers I can trust, so I need to keep him around to handle things."

The second prince was still thinking that after he ascended the throne, he would have Yuan Chengyu deal with all those traitors from Solo Kingdom, including Allen.

"If I kill those two, my throne will be in jeopardy."

Emperor Pei shook his head in disappointment. "Second son, I am truly disappointed in you."

The sorrowful expression on Emperor Pei's face pierced the Second Prince's heart.

"Old man, hurry up and make me the crown prince, or I'll really have to use torture."
