The curfew in the mansion was lifted, and Shang Huai brought Feifei to play with Pei Zhi.
Before Pei Zhi could ask, Shang Huai told her that the Empress Dowager had committed suicide.
Pei Zhi asked, puzzled, "Why?"
Pei Zhi thought for a moment and said, "Could it be that the Empress Dowager came up with this self-inflicted injury scheme because she saw that Xiao Chengci had not been married for a long time?"
Shang Huai shook his head, "It's a self-inflicted injury ruse, but that's not the purpose."
"What else could it be?"
Now that Xiao Chengci has become the emperor, isn't the empress dowager eyeing his harem?

Pei Zhi looked puzzled. "Is this Empress Dowager not thinking straight?"

Pei Zhi shook her head and sighed, "The Empress Dowager is just being stubborn."

Pei Zhi counted on her fingers, "The Empress Dowager went from being the Empress to the Empress Dowager, and she got a promotion."
"Now that you've become Empress Dowager, what gold and silver jewels can't you have? You've made a fortune, haven't you?"
"The late emperor has also passed away, so the empress dowager can barely be considered a widow, right?"
Shang Huai's expression turned somewhat unpleasant, because he sensed that those words were not a kind remark.

Pei Zhi shrugged. "That's just how it is. The Empress Dowager is obviously too idle."

Shang Huai originally thought that Pei Zhi's words were nonsense.
But upon closer reflection, Pei Zhi's words do seem to make some sense.
The Empress Dowager is just too idle. It wouldn't be a bad idea to arrange for some people to be given infertility drugs to distract her.
Pei Zhi looked at the creature squatting in the wooden cage, still making a racket.
Is Feifei male or female?
Shang Huai gave Feifei a bath, "He's male."
Pei Zhi kicked the cage with her foot. "It barks all day long, it has so much energy. Why don't we find a puppy to help it relieve some of that energy?"
"You!" Shang Huai looked at Pei Zhi with a disappointed expression. "Can't you think of anything else?"
"Okay, okay."
"My brother's birthday is in a few days, and I'd like to prepare a gift for him. What's the best gift for him right now?"
"How would I know? I haven't been back to the capital for years."
Pei Zhi said helplessly, "I'm asking, if it were you, what kind of gift would you like to receive?"
Upon hearing this, Shang Huai became interested.
"Me?" Shang Huai pondered for a moment, "I like anything you give me."
Pei Zhi didn't want to talk to the sycophant.
Shang Huai suggested, "How about I take you out for a stroll and we can see what to give your brother?"
Pei Zhi rested her chin on her hand and said, "I think Pei Minxue has everything he needs. How about I make him a gift myself?"
Shang Huai felt a pang of jealousy, knowing that he had never received a gift personally prepared by Pei Zhi.
"You want to send it on horseback? Or embroider something yourself?"
Pei Zhi quickly shook her head: "My embroidery skills are not something I should embarrass myself with."
"Moreover, it seems that my sister-in-law is planning to make a set of clothes for my brother by hand, from an outer robe to shoes to a sachet."
Pei Zhi was pondering this when she suddenly noticed the jade bracelet on her wrist.
"What do you think, should I give him a jade hairpin?"
"You go buy it yourself?"
“You know how to carve, right? You teach me, and I’ll make one myself and give it to him.”
Shang Huai pursed his lips, "So, you learned a craft from me, and then gave the things you made to other men?"
Pei Zhi noticed that Shang Huai seemed a little unhappy, and said, "Then forget it."
"If you don't want to teach, I'll just ask another master to come."
Pei Zhi snorted, "I was just worried about your cooking skills."
Shang Huai was just joking with Pei Zhi, but when he saw that Pei Zhi was really angry, he naturally had to coax her.
