[The Long Night of the Past]
Little Xi Changye stood at the corner of the corridor, carefully concealing himself. When he saw two familiar figures not far away, he clenched his little fists, bit his lip, and tried his best to keep himself from making a sound.
Unspeakable words reached the ears of ten-year-old Xi Changye.
"Ha, if you want to be a tyrant, you should first see if you have the ability."
“How could everything go as he wanted? He even blamed us for not protecting his wife. We had no obligation to take care of his wife. He was the one who killed his own wife and caused so many of our brothers to die.”

Xi's father forced a smile, treating his words as a child's innocent joke, but seeing Xi Changye's serious gaze, he suddenly became serious.
"This world is not as simple as you think. I know you are usually very smart and have your own opinions, but the adult world is different."
“I understand, Father. I’ve made up my mind. I beg you.”
After a long silence, Xi's father spoke: "Fine, if you want to do it, I will do my best to protect you."
Xi Changye nodded, and his father saw his wife's reflection in his face.
Since that day, revenge has become Xi Changye's only goal. He seems arrogant and shrewd, but he is actually very calculating. He seems to care about nothing, but once he makes up his mind, he will definitely do it.
At fifteen, Xi Changye returned home covered in blood. He took off his blood-stained clothes and took out a first-aid kit to bandage himself.
Father Xi: "You're back."
"Um".
Xi's father seemed to see the wounds on Xi Changye's body, yet he also seemed not to, but he said nothing, because this was the inevitable path for those who succeeded in the underworld.
The boy endured the pain, poured alcohol on his wound, and lay quietly on the bed without blinking, waiting for the second night to arrive.
At the age of seventeen, Xi Changye met Mu Wenxi, but he was filthy. During the day, he pretended to be a good student, but at night he frequented casinos, bars and nightclubs. His appearance also brought him some trouble.
Sometimes he wished he didn't have this face, but at the same time he was grateful that he still had it.
Mu Wenxi jogged over to Xi Changye and nudged him: "Xi Changye, can I walk home with you after school?"
Xi Changye glanced at her but did not answer.
Mu Wenxi skipped around and said, "Xi Changye, if you don't say anything, I'll take that as a yes."
Xi Changye thought that she would leave naturally after a while, so he ignored her.
Mu Wenxi: "You really mean you agreed?"
Mu Wenxi saw Xi Changye remain silent and made a cheering gesture to himself from behind.
The next day after school, Xi Changye had just stepped out of the school gate with his schoolbag when a girl in a school uniform ran up to him breathlessly: "Xi Changye, why didn't you wait for me? I almost couldn't catch up with you."
Xi Changye said calmly, "I didn't say I was going to wait for you."
Mu Wenxi choked for a moment, her smile freezing, but she quickly smiled again: "But you didn't say you wouldn't wait yesterday."
Xi Changye silently followed her. When they reached the entrance of a small alley, Xi Changye looked at her and said, "Don't follow me, let's go back." It would be dangerous if they went any further.
Mu Wenxi pouted and waved at him: "Okay, see you tomorrow."
Xi Changye turned and walked into the alley. He didn't come to school for the first and second days after that.
Mu Wenxi walked past their classroom and inquired, "Is Xi Changye here?"
"He's here to see Xi Changye again."
"yes".
He took two days off.
"OK, thanks".
On the third day, Xi Changye finally arrived at school, limping. Mu Wenxi squatted down to check his leg: "Xi Changye, what happened to your leg?"
Xi Changye took a few steps back, not wanting her to see, and said perfunctorily, "It's nothing."
Mu Wenxi: "Okay, if you don't want to talk about it, then forget it. Just remember to wait for me after school."
Xi Changye did not answer, turned around and limped away.
As soon as the bell rang, Mu Wenxi ran to find Xi Changye, but Xi Changye was already gone. Mu Wenxi stomped her foot in anger: "That's so mean, he didn't wait for me again."
Xi Changye slipped out of the school gate early because he was afraid that Mu Wenxi would be in danger if she followed him. Sure enough, when he passed a corner, a group of people suddenly appeared and blocked Xi Changye's way with sticks.
"It's him."
Xi Changye gave a gloomy laugh: "I told you not to bother me after school, it seems you didn't quite understand."
The man with the stick spat: "Pah! Today, Xi Changye, you'll leave your life here."
Xi Changye's fox-like eyes suddenly narrowed. He found it somewhat amusing. He had lived in dire straits since he was ten years old. Countless people had tried to kill him along the way, but he was still standing here unharmed. No one who wanted him dead had ever succeeded.
