Mu Wenxi packed her luggage, took one last look at the school, and realized that after two years, it was finally time to say goodbye.
The happiest person was Mu's mother: "Finally, I'm leaving this place where I'm studying abroad for good. You have no idea how worried I've been these past two years. It's so unsafe abroad..."
Mu Wenxi listened helplessly to his mother's nagging on the other end of the phone, while his father chimed in, "It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back."
Mother Shepherd: "What time do you get off the plane? We'll come pick you up."
Mu Wenxi: "It'll be around 1 p.m. Oh, and don't tell anyone I'm going back yet. I want to give them a surprise."
Father: "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Mu's mother said, "You didn't tell Xiaoxi about that?"
Father: "Let's talk about it when we get back. We'll find out eventually anyway."
Mu Wenxi couldn't wait to see Wen Nanyin on the plane and give him a surprise. She scrolled through her previous chat history with Wen Nanyin with a smile on her lips. She had a lot she wanted to share with Wen Nanyin.
She shared her feelings and experiences over the past two years, especially her projects, and that she will be teaching at her alma mater, which is right next to Wen Nanyin University.
I wonder if he's finished filming yet, and how he's doing? Is he eating and sleeping well? Before, when she and Wen Nanyin chatted, she only reported good news and never bad news, so she doesn't know what his true situation is.
As soon as Mu Wenxi got off the plane, she saw her parents who had come to pick her up. After chatting with them for a while, she asked about Wen Nanyin.
Mother Mu paused for a moment and then slowly said, "Your Aunt Wen said he wasn't feeling well, but told us not to worry, saying it wasn't anything serious. We don't know the specifics either."
A hint of worry flashed across Mu Wenxi's face: "How could this happen? Shouldn't he be a senior in college now?"
Mother Mu shook her head: "You should go ask your Aunt Wen and Sister Ping."
After putting down her luggage, Mu Wenxi first called Sister Ping. Sister Ping usually handles Wen Nanyin's work and should know more about it.
Mu Wenxi: "Sister Ping, this is Xiaoxi. What happened to Nan Yin? My mom said he hasn't been doing well lately."
Ping: "You've returned to China. His condition isn't very good."
Mu Wenxi: "Is it because of that drama?"
Ping was silent for a while: "It's hard to say. I think it might be related to this play. You should go see him. I asked him, but he said he just felt bad and was too tired and wanted to rest. I found him a psychologist, but he refused."
Mu Wenxi: "Then I'll go see him."
Pingjie: "I'm sorry to trouble you, Xiaoxi. The company hasn't given him any other assignments lately. Please take him out more often. He's too tired. He's so young but lives like an old man."
Mu Wenxi: "Okay."
Just as she was about to hang up the phone, Sister Ping said again, "I need to apologize for what I told you back then. You are both sensible kids, and I shouldn't have interfered."
Mu Wenxi: "Sister Ping, what are you saying? You're only doing this for Nan Yin's sake, I understand."
She knew that what Sister Ping was talking about was telling her not to get too close to Wen Nanyin back then. At that time, Wen Nanyin had not yet established himself in the entertainment industry, and any rumor could make his years of hard work go to waste. But Sister Ping was not wrong, and neither of them were wrong.
In the most youthful and innocent time, separation can sometimes be a test. Just like her, when she discovered two years ago that she had developed feelings for Wen Nanyin, she felt extremely inferior and unworthy of him.
But two years later, she was stronger and more confident. She realized that there was no such thing as being worthy or unworthy in love, and she decided to let things take their natural course and stop wasting her energy.
Mu Wenxi tidied herself up and rushed to Wen Nanyin's apartment. She nervously raised her hand at the door, about to ring the doorbell, but then fixed her hair before ringing the doorbell.
No one responded.
Is no one home?
Mu Wenxi rang the doorbell again, and just as she was about to make a call, Wen Nanyin opened the door, his voice a little hoarse: "Who is it?"
Mu Wenxi was surprised to see him looking dejected, with a stubble beard, messy hair, and wearing an old man's vest: "A-Yin, it's me."
When Wen Nanyin saw her suddenly freeze in place, and then close the door after a moment, Mu Wenxi's eyes widened. A while later, Wen Nanyin appeared in front of Mu Wenxi, all tidied up.
He moved aside to let her in: "Xixi, you're back. When did you get back? I'm sorry I didn't pick you up."
Mu Wenxi: "It's okay."
She walked into the room and found it somewhat dark and lacking any warm, homey atmosphere. She wanted to walk to the bedside and draw back the curtains to let the sunlight in.
Wen Nanyin tugged at Mu Wenxi's sleeve: "I'm so sleepy."
Mu Wenxi turned to look at him: "Then you can sleep a little longer."
Wen Nanyin pulled her, whose head was drooping, into the room together: "I want you to come with me."
Mu Wenxi immediately softened: "Okay."
Wen Nanyin yawned: "How's it going on your end? Will you come again?"
Mu Wenxi: "It's all over. The project was a great success. I received my doctoral degree and have already received invitations from universities in China. I will stay at the university as a teacher and do some research projects on the side."
Wen Nanyin sat on the edge of the bed and pulled Mu Wenxi to sit down: "You're amazing!"
Mu Wenxi: "By the way, guess where the school I'm going to teach at is?"
Wen Nanyin: "Where is it?"
Mu Wenxi: "It's near your school."
Wen Nanyin whispered, "That's really good."
Mu Wenxi: "How about you? How have you been lately?"
Wen Nanyin suddenly collapsed, lying on the bed with his hands outstretched, staring at the ceiling: "Oh no!"
Mu Wenxi didn't know what to say, so she could only try to comfort him: "Is it because of this drama? It's okay, you'll get better soon."
Wen Nanyin: "I don't know if it's because of this drama, but I feel like I can't get out of Ananda's world."
Mu Wenxi asked with a worried look, "Should we see a doctor?"
Wen Nanyin didn't answer her question, but suddenly looked in her direction and asked, "Are you really not leaving?"
Mu Wenxi: "Hmm."
Wen Nanyin slowly closed her eyes and held Mu Wenxi's hand: "I want to sleep for a while, don't go."
Mu Wenxi: "Okay, I won't leave."
Wen Nanyin quickly fell asleep. Mu Wenxi lay down beside her and gently brushed his bangs aside, revealing his delicate face. He had lost weight in the time she hadn't seen him, and his dark circles were quite severe. He said he was fine, but he probably wasn't.
Mu Wenxi thought of depression and took out her phone to search: "Low mood? Tired and lacking energy? Difficulty falling asleep or sleeping too much?"
She glanced at the sleeping Wen Nanyin and silently prayed that things hadn't gotten too serious. Gradually, Mu Wenxi also fell asleep.
