Chapter 238 Saving the Little Monsters in the Apocalypse 29 - Investigation

Xingxing scratched his head: "Uncle, let's go to Area F. We don't have that many crystal cores."

The officer paused, said something to his subordinate, and then looked at Xingxing: "Good children, the security in F district might be a bit bad. How about I send you to E district instead?"

Xingxing opened her eyes wide and nodded: "Thank you, Uncle, thank you, Uncle."

The officer patted Xingxing's little head: "You're welcome. Take good care of your brother and grandma."

What a pleasant surprise! This officer is kind-hearted. Originally, the three of them planned to go to the most chaotic F district so that Grandma and Xingxing could cover for Qin Lun. Unexpectedly, the officer sent them to E district instead. That's fine too; Qin Lun's secret can be hidden even more securely.

The ordinary-looking man whom Xingxing called "brother" was Qin Lun. He had discovered him in the previous city. When he transformed into human form, he had a sudden inspiration and wondered if he could transform into something else since he could transform into his original form. Unexpectedly, he succeeded after trying it. It seems that his special ability is shapeshifting.

Yu Chaoyang and Xu Kai also had a smooth experience. The two registered their superpowers as brothers and entered Zone B directly as superpowered individuals.

Mu Wenxi had Xiao A tamper with his abilities to keep them at level one, while Yuan Jin disguised himself as a hoodlum and went inside.

In the last group, Yu Chaoyang and Xu Kai went to Zone B, Mu Wenxi went to Zone F, Yuan Jin went to Zone D, and the three members of the Water Brothers went to Zone C. In other words, there were people in every zone except Zone A.

Before going in, everyone distributed the food and agreed to report on the situation in their respective areas every so often.

Qin Lun was responsible for relaying the message, because his shapeshifting ability was the least likely to be detected among them. He could easily escape danger, and when he wasn't in shapeshifting, he would just look like a wildcat in the dark.

After handing over the crystal core, Mu Wenxi entered Sector F.

The people here are a bit mixed; you can see all sorts of people at a glance, with a wide age range, mostly elderly people and children.

Mu Wenxi was assigned to a single room in one of the buildings. The single rooms on each floor were densely packed like a prison, and there was only one public restroom on each floor.

Upon opening the room, it was revealed that the single room could only fit a bed, with barely enough room to stretch out one's arms. The room was no more than two meters long from the doorway to the innermost part, and the living conditions were extremely poor.

Mu Wenxi carefully observed the other buildings and found that many so-called double rooms were only slightly larger than this one. Some rooms were even like dormitories, with eight beds in a row of bunk beds, each about ten square meters in size. The rooms were filled with an indescribable smell. This place was more like a refuge than a residence.

The next day, she went out to explore the F district and found that its layout resembled that of an old neighborhood in the city, with old streets and a dense arrangement of buildings. Every now and then, she would see people passing by looking around and clutching their clothes tightly as if afraid of having something snatched from their arms.

As Mu Wenxi walked over, several shirtless thugs standing at the entrance of an alley whistled at her. Mu Wenxi looked over sharply, but they not only didn't restrain themselves, they were also laughing and joking.

Seemingly realizing that Mu Wenxi was not someone to be trifled with, the group did not approach or make a move, but the woman behind them seemed afraid of them and quickly ran across the alley.

Upon arriving at the trading market in District F, Mu Wenxi discovered that there were more people without superpowers than he had imagined.

A large crowd of people were crammed into the market, exchanging daily necessities.

An old man stood in front of a stall, seemingly wanting to exchange something, but he hesitated, clutching the steamed bun in his hand, unwilling to hand it over.

The man next to him snatched the steamed bun away, saying, "Why are you dawdling over something else?"

The old man left, his body trembling slightly, carrying the items he had exchanged.

There are many such instances, including fathers bringing half a steamed bun with their children in an attempt to exchange it for a piece of candy.

Of course, some stalls also use crystal cores to buy items. Most of the crystal cores used for trading here are yellow crystal cores. In the post-apocalyptic world, food is very scarce, and one yellow crystal core can only be exchanged for two steamed buns for a day's food.

On the way back, Mu Wenxi passed a corner and noticed that there were always several women standing at the alley entrance looking around. Their clothes were old but very revealing, and every now and then a strange man would put his arm around a woman and take her inside and out.

Mu Wenxi left helplessly.

After observing for several days, she found nothing unusual about Area F. That night, she found a blind spot in the surveillance cameras and waited for Qin Lun. Qin Lun quickly found Mu Wenxi thanks to his strong tracking ability.

Mu Wenxi looked at Qin Lun in the corner: "How is it?"

Qin Lun jumped onto her shoulder and whispered, "I haven't found anything unusual on my end. Yu Chaoyang and Xu Kai haven't found anything else yet, and there are no abnormalities in Zones C and D."

Mu Wenxi: "Okay, thank you for your hard work. Let's continue the investigation."

Qin Lun left in the darkness. Mu Wenxi looked around and, seeing no one, went back after a while.

Another week later, Qin Lun arrived as scheduled.

Mu Wenxi asked with some anticipation, "How is it?"

Qin Lun shook his head: "The progress is very slow. The higher the level of the district, the stricter the discipline, and the more wary the people inside are. Others still haven't discovered anything."

After considering for a moment, Mu Wenxi suggested, "Then let's go on a mission. We can split into several groups and infiltrate other people's superpowered teams to do missions and see if we can gather any information."

In the morning, Mu Wenxi lingered at the entrance of District F for a long time, when he happened to run into a superpowered individual shouting: "We need three more low-level superpowered individuals. Any superpower is fine, as long as you can kill zombies. We'll provide a meal and you can keep any extra crystal cores you hand over."

Mu Wenxi walked to the leader of the superpowered squad: "Can I? I have a first-level superpower, which allows me to cut down zombies."

The squad leader nodded when he saw that she was relatively clean, and then casually pointed to a few people: "Just the three of you."

She got into their van and pretended to be asleep. The two vans, carrying more than a dozen people, quickly arrived at their mission location, where they searched for supplies and obtained crystal cores in a building.

Mu Wenxi fought alongside the two big brothers along the way, occasionally lending a hand, hoping to infiltrate their ranks. Finally, during a rest, he obtained some clues.

The two men seemed to have mentioned an unfamiliar, special area in their conversation.

Mu Wenxi asked in a low voice, "What is a special area?"

The older brother turned his head and looked around: "Little girl, are you new here? Since you covered for us earlier, I'll tell you a secret. The special area is where some strange people are imprisoned."
