Chapter 246 Saving the Little Monster in the Apocalypse - Side Story: The Star's Nightmare

Twelve-year-old Xingxing frowned. He had just absorbed the crystal core this afternoon and advanced to the fourth level. He had been restless while sleeping last night.

In his dream, he and his grandmother set off northwards.

The clothes they were wearing hadn't been changed in a long time, and they couldn't even remember the last time they took a bath. Grandma was frail and old, and her legs weren't very good, so she couldn't walk very far. The two of them walking on the street would undoubtedly expose themselves to the zombies, making them naked food for them.

Xingxing, supporting his grandmother, asked somewhat bewilderedly, "Grandma, where are we going next?"

Grandma hesitated for a moment: "Let's go to the capital. Your parents are probably there."

Xingxing nodded, her heart filled with anxiety. Neither of them could drive; getting to the capital would be a long time coming.

That night, Xingxing and her grandmother found a small corner that seemed safe for the time being and decided to make do for the night.

Xingxing opened her eyes wide in the darkness: "Grandma, you go to sleep first."

Grandma: "Good boy/girl."

Through the faint light from the window, Xingxing saw Grandma curled up on a piece of cardboard, wearing only a thin coat.

He sat beside his grandmother, his eyes fixed on the only exit, afraid that zombies might break in during the night. The surroundings were silent, with only the soft breathing of the two of them. Xingxing gradually became sleepy, but kept telling himself not to sleep, not to sleep.

Just as he was about to fall asleep, he suddenly heard a faint noise. He instantly woke up and looked at the exit not far away. He held his breath, and tension spread from the bottom of his heart. He quietly moved his other hand toward his grandmother.

If zombies come in at this time, all he can do is grab his grandmother and run to another place, but he can't guarantee what the next place will be like, whether there will be danger, or whether there will be zombies.

He waited in the dark for a while, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. The faint sound in the distance seemed to be his hallucination. His legs were about to go numb from squatting, but there was still no movement in the distance.

His grandmother, who was beside him, tugged at his hand and said, "Son, go to sleep for a while."

Xingxing finally relaxed. Perhaps he had misheard. He quickly became sleepy again, but he still dared not fall into a deep sleep, holding onto his grandmother's hand with one hand.

The next day, as dawn broke, the sunlight outside the window was a bit too bright for the sleeping star, so it opened its eyes. Grandma was resting with her eyes closed beside it.

Today they plan to head north.

But they didn't know where to get out, but luckily Grandma knew which way was north, south, east, and west: "Let's keep going in that direction."

The two traveled along, stopping occasionally, and when they encountered zombies, Xingxing would hit them hard with a baseball bat. He would always remember the feeling of killing a zombie for the first time. If he wasn't brave, he would lose someone important to him again.

A car drove up in the distance, and Xingxing instinctively wanted to run away, but a girl leaned out of the car window and waved to them.

The girl looked at them and said to the people around her, "They're human, stop the car!"

Xingxing stood in front of her grandmother to watch the car stop in front of them.

A very clean-looking woman greeted them: "Hello, little one and grandma, would you like a ride?"

Xingxing looked at the people in front of him with some wariness and some hesitation. He was a little afraid that they were bad people, but it was indeed difficult for them to walk to the capital on their own.

The man next to the woman seemed to be afraid of trouble and stopped her, saying, "Let's go, they're all ignoring you."

The woman ignored him and got out of the car on her own: "Hello, we're not bad people. We're planning to go to the capital. Would you like a ride? It must be tough for you two, an old man and a child, in this apocalypse."

Xingxing glanced at her grandmother, who was somewhat wary. Would there still be such kind people in this apocalyptic world? But seeing that she was dressed cleanly and had a sweet face, she didn't seem like a bad person.

Woman: "Get on the bus. We don't eat people. You can just get off at the next stop."

Xingxing: "Grandma, let us give you a ride. Your legs aren't good, and it's hard for you to walk."

Xingxing and her grandmother eventually got into the woman's car. Soon they learned that the woman's name was Ren Tingting, that she had no special abilities, but that she was kind-hearted and loved helping others.

Ren Tingting: "Little friend, how old are you this year? Do you have any special abilities?"

Xingxing rolled her eyes: "Yes."

Ren Tingting: "That's amazing, what level are you at?"

Star: "First Order".

Xingxing and her grandmother rode in Ren Tingting's car all the way to the capital. They became more and more familiar with each other and even joined Ren Tingting's group.

Grandma was in charge of the team's meals as a logistics staff member, while Xingxing joined the team of superhumans and went out with the others to fight zombies and find crystal cores.

But as time went on, Ren Tingting's team grew larger and larger, but the number of crystal cores distributed to each person decreased, and Xingxing's superpowers remained stagnant.

Most of the zombies he encountered each time he went out had to be handed over, and Xingxing could only keep one or two. The zombies were also getting faster and faster, which made him somewhat worried.

"Sister, can we pay less for the crystal cores next time?"

Ren Tingting's smile froze for a moment, but the next second she smiled sweetly and said, "Sure."

Xingxing immediately smiled broadly, "Sister is so kind."

On another mission, Xingxing and the others went to the Misty Forest. Danger lurked all around. Ren Tingting was surrounded by a group of people, but she seemed to have had an argument with her boyfriend. For the first time, Xingxing felt a bit disgusted. He didn't know why Ren Tingting had to come along when it was so dangerous.

That night, everyone hid at the school. One of the boys developed a high fever, which seemed to be a sign of mutation, but it could also be a sign of an advancement in superpowers.

Xingxing vaguely heard Ren Tingting's voice, "It's dangerous, let's go first."
