A chill ran down Mu Wenxi's spine. If Xiao Chang'an hadn't kept urging her to go to the old house, she would never have gone. The original owner of this body was probably scared to death either by the secret room last time or by this old house.
How dare these people provoke everything? Yu Zhiyuan gave an embarrassed twitch of her lips and remained silent.
Jiang Qi: "It's okay, it's really not scary."
Xia: "I'll walk in front of you later."
Mu Wenxi: "Thank you."
She was somewhat reluctant to pay attention to them, but in her heart she cried out to Little A: "You must give me a few more amulets, I'm going to investigate these ghosts."
A: "No problem."
The next second, a jade pendant appeared around Mu Wenxi's neck, and Mu Wenxi touched it through his clothes.
Little A: "With this, no ghost can touch you."
Mu Wenxi breathed a sigh of relief, but then took a deep breath. If no ghost could touch me, then it would scare me to death.
Little A: "...".
The atmosphere inside the van was incredibly awkward; no one spoke. Soon, the van drove to a rather secluded place.
Everyone got out of the car and took out flashlights. Jiang Qi led the way, while Mu Wenxi walked at the back. In her heart, she cried out, "Xiao Chang'an, you asked me to come to the old house, so you have to show up, right?"
Xiao Chang'an did not appear.
After walking a short distance along a muddy path, a somewhat eerie old house appeared before them.
The old house is several tens of meters long, with a double bronze door in the middle. There is a stone lion on each side of the door. The walls are ivory white and there are no lights.
Mu Wenxi whispered, "Xiao Chang'an, what if I get scared to death? I'm not going in if you don't show up soon."
After she finished speaking, she closed her eyes and felt a gust of wind beside her. When she opened her eyes again, Xiao Chang'an appeared in front of her in the same outfit as before. Mu Wenxi and he made eye contact.
His expression was icy, one hand behind his back, and he curled the corner of his mouth slightly: "You really can see me."
His voice was just like in my dream—magnetic yet cold, making him seem unapproachable.
Mu Wenxi shrugged: "Yeah, I can see you. Have you been following me since the tomb?"
Xiao Chang'an looked at the gate of the house: "Hmm."
Mu Wenxi: "Why?"
Xiao Chang'an: "You disturbed my tomb and even touched my coffin."
Mu Wenxi: "So that room that wasn't discovered was yours?"
Xiao Chang'an did not answer.
Mu Wenxi muttered to herself, "She's so aloof."
Xiao Chang'an glanced at her.
Mu Wenxi silently shut up. This man is truly heartless. No wonder he's the second male lead. Oh, he's not even human.
Jiang Qi approached the gate, pulled on the doorbell, and the doorbell made a dull sound as it struck the door.
Yu Zhiyuan: "Let's just go in, no one's definitely living here."
Jiang Qi pushed open the door, and Mu Wenxi was the last to step across the threshold. The leaves outside were rustling in the wind, making the atmosphere even more terrifying.
Mu Wenxi held a flashlight and carefully shone it around; the entire house exuded a desolate atmosphere.
The old house was very large; upon entering the main gate, they had only reached the outer courtyard.
Han Chao: "This house is huge!"
Lan pushed up her glasses: "This house looks quite old. Judging from this screen wall, it must have been inhabited by someone of some status."
Yu Zhiyuan touched her arm: "It's a little cold."
The group walked through the hanging flower gate and entered the inner courtyard. The water vat not far away was full of water, probably from rainwater accumulating over time and overflowing from time to time. There were also some unlit lanterns hanging on the eaves.
Xia: "How did you find this house?"
Yu Zhiyuan: "Someone online sent us a message saying there's a house here."
Mu Wenxi frowned. It didn't make sense. A house like this would have been discovered anywhere and would have been protected as a historical relic. How could they be allowed to explore it so carelessly?
Lan had the same thought: "Strange, could it be a fake? That's impossible."
Yu Zhiyuan: "Jiang Qi, what do you think?"
No one answered.
Yu Zhiyuan: "Jiang Qi? Jiang Qi?"
She turned around and found no one behind her.
Mu Wenxi didn't dare to wander off and stayed close behind the group. But gradually, it seemed like no one was talking. Then she noticed that the number of flashlight beams was wrong. Her heart tightened, and she looked around.
Mu Wenxi: "Are you still there?"
No one answered. Then her companions disappeared, and Xiao Chang'an also vanished without her noticing.
Mu Wenxi started to get anxious: "Could there really be ghosts here?"
Suddenly a voice rang in my ears: "Don't be afraid."
It was Xiao Chang'an; Mu Wenxi breathed a sigh of relief.
Mu Wenxi: "Have you seen my companions?"
Xiao Chang'an: "It's a formation; they're outside."
Mu Wenxi breathed a sigh of relief, wondering why being with this ghost now wasn't so scary anymore.
Xiao Chang'an snapped his fingers, and the surroundings gradually brightened. They were now in a room.
Everything before Mu Wenxi's eyes changed: "This is your room?"
Xiao Chang'an nodded.
Mu Wenxi found himself in an illusion. The sky outside suddenly became incredibly bright, and there were several large trees in the courtyard.
Under the big tree, a little boy of five or six years old was playing football in the yard. After a while, a man walked in.
The little boy called him, "Daddy."
But his father remained expressionless, merely patted his head, and went into the study. The boy squatted down, feeling somewhat sad.
His appearance seemed somewhat familiar to Mu Wenxi, and she wondered why his father was so indifferent to him.
As the boy grew up, Mu Wenxi noticed that his appearance was becoming more and more like Xiao Chang'an's. No, he was Xiao Chang'an.
Xiao Chang'an would approach his father every time, but his father never responded. Countless nights, Xiao Chang'an asked himself if he had done something wrong.
He studied hard to become the most famous and handsome young man in the world, and the women who admired him could line up outside the city, but Xiao Chang'an's ambitions lay elsewhere.
That New Year's Eve, fifteen-year-old Xiao Chang'an sneaked in with a lantern in his hand, wanting to go into the study to find his father and give him a surprise, but he overheard his father talking to another person.
"How has my sister been lately?"
"All is well. Her Majesty has sent word that Xiao Chang'an's reputation is now subtly overshadowing that of the Crown Prince. Her Majesty is very angry. She says she does not wish for you to have any feelings for Xiao Chang'an..."
"After all these years, she still can't let go. She's too obsessive. Chang'an's mother has been dead for so many years, yet she still keeps thinking about it. What does she want? I watched this child grow up; he's innocent after all."
Xiao Chang'an, standing outside the door, was utterly shocked. He instinctively hid and eventually returned to his room like a walking corpse.
