Mu Wenxi finally breathed a sigh of relief. Although she knew that Dong Lihua couldn't see Xiao Chang'an, Mu Wenxi still carefully drew the curtains and covered herself with the quilt.
She deliberately moved over: "Can you come in? You can speak more quietly inside."
Xiao Chang'an rolled over and got into Mu Wenxi's bed. Mu Wenxi pulled the blanket up and could see a dark shadow next to her, but when she reached out and poked it, she only touched thin air.
Xiao Chang'an curled up, seemingly a little shy, burying his head in his body and not looking at Mu Wenxi.
Mu Wenxi whispered, "Why do you still want to go to the old house?"
Hsiao Chang-an: "There are some things I don't understand."
Mu Wenxi: "But I don't dare to go alone."
Xiao Chang'an glanced at her and saw through her lie: "You're not even afraid of me."
Mu Wenxi glanced at the black aura behind Xiao Chang'an; it did seem rather frightening.
Xiao Chang'an: "Then have your friend go with you."
Mu Wenxi: "Forget it, they're even more scared. When do you want to go?"
Hsiao Chang-an: "Tomorrow."
Mu Wenxi: "How about the day after tomorrow? I don't have any classes then, so I can stay at home for a few more days."
Xiao Chang'an: "Hmm."
The next day, Mu Wenxi greeted Dong Lihua: "I'm going home to stay today. I don't have any classes, so I'll be staying home for a few days."
Dong Lihua didn't find it strange, because Mu Wenxi often went home.
In the afternoon, Mu Wenxi came to the old house alone again, with Xiao Chang'an by her side.
The old house was still the same. Mu Wenxi walked the same path he had taken that day, and the illusion reappeared when he entered the main house.
Xiao Chang'an overheard his father's conversation with someone else, discovered the secret, and everything became clear.
Xiao Chang'an laughed in anger. His father's doting affection over the years had become an obsession, but it turned out that it was all a lie.
No wonder his father was so cold to him since he was a child, because he was not his biological son at all. He was a prince who was switched by his father's own sister, who is now the empress.
The once cheerful and innocent boy changed overnight. His smile became full of falsehood, and he began to lie low, develop his own power, and investigate everything.
One day he learned the truth: his mother had been favored by the emperor and brought to the palace. After giving birth to him, she was framed by the empress and killed by her. He was supposed to be a prince, but he was switched at birth. The one in the palace now was the imposter.
No wonder he never had a mother, and his father never mentioned his mother. No, he wasn't his father; he was the brother of Xiao Chang'an's enemy.
Xiao Chang'an concealed all his anger, as now was not the time. He established the largest intelligence agency in the martial arts world at the time, solely to gather all kinds of information.
Not long after, Xiao Chang'an set a trap to let the emperor know the secret, but the emperor remained unmoved.
Xiao Chang'an: "Do you still remember my mother?"
Emperor: "Xuan Niang..."
Xiao Chang'an: "You know that Xuan Niang was killed by the Empress, right? Why don't you avenge my mother?"
Emperor: "I'm sorry, I have no choice."
Hsiao Chang-an: "You're just a good-for-nothing."
Xiao Chang'an was furious and decided to kill the Empress himself to avenge her.
The night before deciding to take revenge, Xiao Chang'an disbanded his intelligence agency: "You are all free now. I will no longer be your agency leader."
He stood in the courtyard where he had grown up, looking at the biggest tree in the yard. He used to sit on the swing under this tree, waiting for his father to come home. Now he had no father.
Xiao Chang'an: "Father, have you ever treated me as your son?"
A man in the room slammed his drawing pen on the table. When the door was opened, Xiao Chang'an was nowhere to be found.
Xiao Chang'an set fire to the Empress's palace, hoping to erase everything from the past, but the fire did not kill anyone.
The Empress, however, had no intention of letting him go: "A bastard will always be a bastard."
Xiao Chang'an fell into the Empress's trap: "I am not a bastard, but you are a heartless woman. No wonder he doesn't love you."
The Empress: "I want him buried alive."
Xiao Chang'an burst into laughter: "You're so pathetic, you'll never get the love of the one you love."
Xiao Chang'an was buried alive in a coffin by the Empress's men.
By the time the emperor and his father discovered it, it was too late. When they opened the coffin, Xiao Chang'an was already dead.
Emperor: "Xuan Niang, I'm sorry, I'm a coward..."
The father's eyes were filled with sorrow: "You will always be my son."
However, Xiao Chang'an's resentment was too strong, and he refused to enter the cycle of reincarnation. He transformed into a vengeful ghost, tormenting the Empress day and night, but he still couldn't bring himself to harm his father who had raised him for many years.
To allow him to rest in peace, the emperor commissioned many people to build him a mausoleum. From then on, the empress was never seen again. To prevent the young man from becoming a vengeful ghost and harming more people, his father hired many Taoist priests to chant scriptures for him every day to atone for his sins and hope that he would be reincarnated soon.
The empress eventually died of fright one night, but after her death, no one came to pay their respects except for her own mother.
After becoming a ghost, Xiao Chang'an refused to leave and a thousand years passed in this way. How did Xiao Chang'an spend those thousand years?
Mu Wenxi's eyes reddened slightly: "So the story in that secret room was real, and my dream was real too."
Xiao Chang'an: "Hmm."
Mu Wenxi was puzzled: "Why did I dream about your mother?"
Hsiao Chang-an: "I don't know."
Mu Wenxi: "Why did you bring me to this old house?"
Hsiao Chang-an: "I don't know."
Mu Wenxi: "How come you don't know anything?"
Xiao Chang'an put his hands behind his back: "I can only feel that something is guiding me here to figure something out, but I don't know what is guiding me."
Mu Wenxi: "Okay."
Despite his icy demeanor, Mu Wenxi felt that the real Xiao Chang'an should be gentle. Apart from the Empress, he had never harmed anyone from beginning to end. All he did was avenge his mother, yet he was imprisoned for thousands of years. How did he spend those thousands of years of days and nights?
Freedom must be something very important to him.
Mu Wenxi: "I didn't expect that secret room to be real."
Hsiao Chang-an: "I appeared in the author's dream and asked him to write this story."
Mu Wenxi: "I see."
Xiao Chang'an: "I'm also a little curious why you're not afraid of me but still dream about my mother?"
Mu Wenxi: "Although you are a ghost, you are a good ghost, so why be afraid? As for why I dreamed about your mother, I don't know either."
Xiao Chang'an was somewhat puzzled, since she had clearly acted very scared both in the secret room and today: "You are very mysterious. You can see me, and you can even produce a luminous pearl."
Mu Wenxi: "You saw the luminous pearl?"
Xiao Chang'an: "Hmm."
Mu Wenxi suddenly thought of something: "Then will you be able to touch me?"
