Chapter 318 A Messy Novel: The Disabled Second Male Lead's Lucky Charm (17)

Mu Wenxi: "Is it delicious?"

Huo Jiangliu: "These are the best wontons I've ever eaten."

Mu Wenxi: "You're exaggerating too much."

But looking at his serious expression, she knew he was being earnest, though she never imagined Huo Jiangliu would like her.

Mu Wenxi: "You will definitely eat even better wontons in the future."

Huo Jiangliu: "What you make is the best."

That night made Mu Wenxi realize that some things had changed: the original owner's fate had changed, the original plot had changed, and Huo Jiangliu had changed—all of these were good, but some other things had changed as well.

She shook her head to clear her mind: "Let's eat and then go to sleep. Goodnight."

Mu Wenxi's hasty reaction as she ran up the stairs made Huo Jiangliu understand something. He thought, "It's okay, there's still plenty of time. She can't escape."

Once he can stand up again, once they've both been admitted to university, once he's achieved success in his career, perhaps she won't want to run away anymore.

In the summer, the final exam results came out at the end of June. Mu Wenxi's grades had stabilized in the top five of the grade, while Huo Jiangliu had consistently held the top spot.

Huo Jiangliu went for rehabilitation almost every week during the summer vacation, and at the end of July, a pleasant surprise arrived.

He had known this day would come, but when he could finally stand steadily without falling again, he was still shocked. What he had lost had returned, and the feeling of regaining what he had lost was wonderful.

He decided to give his family a surprise.

When they returned to the old house, Mu Wenxi was sitting at the desk by the window practicing calligraphy. She had recently become fascinated with calligraphy and spent a lot of time practicing after finishing her planned homework every day.

Mu Wenxi was so engrossed in the world of calligraphy that he didn't notice someone entering the room. A figure loomed over Mu Wenxi's head, and the papers on the table suddenly darkened.

Mu Wenxi wondered who was blocking her light. She looked up and saw Huo Jiangliu, but she hadn't realized anything was wrong.

She asked softly, "You're back?"

Huo Jiangliu walked to her side: "Yes, I'm back."

Mu Wenxi sensed something was wrong and turned to look at him, her mouth slightly open: "You can stand up now!"

The calligraphy brush in her hand fell onto the table, ink staining the rice paper. She suddenly stood up, the chair behind her sliding backward. As she swayed slightly, a pair of long, beautiful hands with distinct knuckles wrapped around Mu Wenxi's waist.

Mu Wenxi was still focused on the fact that Huo Jiangliu was able to stand up.

"My God, when did this happen?!"

Huo Jiangliu: "I have a surprise for you today."

Mu Wenxi finally couldn't help but hug Huo Jiangliu: "It's so good that you can finally stand up."

Huo Jiangliu patted her back: "Mm."

Mu Wenxi realized what was happening and politely left Huo Jiangliu's embrace, her eyes still a little red. She was genuinely happy for him.

Mu Wenxi: "Do your uncle and aunt know?"

Huo Jiangliu: "I haven't told you yet, you're the first to know."

Mu Wenxi: "We must celebrate properly tonight! I'll go cook!"

Huo Jiangliu found it amusing to watch Mu Wenxi run out of the room in the blink of an eye. He walked to the wheelchair and sat down as usual. His parents didn't know yet, so he wanted to give them a surprise.

He maneuvered the wheelchair outwards, but this time, his state of mind while sitting in the wheelchair was different from any other time. There was happiness, nostalgia, sadness, and finally, relief. He stroked the wheelchair, grateful for her arrival and his rebirth.

Mr. Huo hasn't come home from get off work yet; he should be at the company right now. Mrs. Huo also went out with her wealthy friends today and hasn't returned for a while.

He thought for a moment and then went to the kitchen, where Mu Wenxi was busy running around like a diligent little bee.

Huo Jiangliu remained silent, simply watching from the side, appearing completely at ease.

That evening, Mr. Huo and Mrs. Huo returned home one after the other.

Mother Huo: "Wow, what a wonderful day it is today! Did Xiao Mu do it?"

Mu Wenxi nodded.

Huo Jiangliu coughed, and everyone looked at him: "I have something to announce."

Mrs. Huo: "What is it?"

Although Mr. Huo sat upright without uttering a sound, a hint of secret joy flashed in his eyes.

Huo Jiangliu: "I can stand up now."

Mrs. Huo: "He can stand up now!"

Mr. Huo had an expression that said, "I knew it."

Huo Jiangliu slowly got up from the wheelchair and pushed it away with his back hand.

Huo's mother came over and hugged Huo Jiangliu, sobbing uncontrollably: "Son, you can finally stand up again."

Huo Jiangliu: "Mom, thank you for your hard work."

He let go of Huo's mother and walked to Huo's father. The father and son hugged each other and looked at each other.

Mr. Huo: "Congratulations."

Huo Jiangliu: "Thank you, Dad."

Looking at the three members of the Huo family, Mu Wenxi felt a warm current in her heart. She wondered if she should leave early now that she had completed her mission, but she was genuinely happy for Huo Jiangliu.

Mother Huo: "Yes, yes, hurry up and eat. This was specially made by Xiao Mu. Jiang Liu told you in advance, right?"

Mu Wenxi: "Hmm."

Mother Huo placed a piece of food on Mu Wenxi's plate: "You've worked hard this year. From now on, you'll be a benefactor to the Huo family."

Mu Wenxi quickly waved his hand: "I didn't do anything, it was all what I should do."

Mrs. Huo: "We've seen everything you've done. From now on, the Huo family will be your support. What do you say, Mr. Huo?"

Mr. Huo: "Yes, you can make any requests you have in the future."

Mu Wenxi's eyes widened; he had just latched onto a gold mine!

Huo Jiangliu: "Eat quickly, eat quickly, I will thank her properly, Mom and Dad, don't worry about it."

Mother Huo: "Okay, okay, okay."

After dinner, Huo Jiangliu politely knocked on Mu Wenxi's door.

Mu Wenxi: "What's wrong?"

Huo Jiangliu stood with his arms crossed against the doorway, and Mu Wenxi realized for the first time how tall Huo Jiangliu was when he stood up.

Huo Jiangliu: "I said I wanted to thank you."

Mu Wenxi: "No need, you've already been very good to me and given me a lot of money."

Huo Jiangliu: "That was given to me by my parents, not mine. What about you? Is there anything you want?"

Mu Wenxi thought to herself that it seemed all her original wishes had come true: she had enough to eat and wear and a home. The money the Huo family gave her was enough to buy her a very nice villa: "No need, I'm fine now."

Huo Jiangliu approached her, squatted down, and looked into her eyes: "Okay, then I have something I want to give you after the college entrance exam."

Mu Wenxi didn't know what he was going to give her, but she was somewhat expectant at that moment: "Okay."

Just as Huo Jiangliu was about to leave the room, Mu Wenxi's voice rang out again: "By the way, now that your leg is better, I should move out right now, but could you give me some time to pack my things and leave in a few days?"

Huo Jiangliu almost tripped and fell: "No need, you don't need to move. You can stay at our house as long as you want."

Mu Wenxi smiled and said, "Okay, as long as you don't mind the disturbance."
