"Xiaohua?"
A surprised voice sounded.
Xihe turned around and saw a skinny and short old man in an old gown standing by the door. He rubbed his cloudy eyes with the hand holding a palm-leaf fan, as if he was afraid to confirm.
Having worked in the fields and on construction sites all year round, the old man looks older than his peers.
Xihe's eyes fixed on the dark, wrinkled skin. He put down his chopsticks, stood up, and walked over: "Dad, I'm back."
The old man staggered to Xihe's front, his lips trembling. He wanted to pat her arm but then pulled back as if afraid of something. He clasped his hands tightly together, his face excited, tears glistening in his eyes: "Xiaohua? You're back..."
Xihe nodded, smiling, with tenderness in her eyes.
The old man looked her up and down. Seeing that her face was only the size of a palm and her arms were thin, he said with concern, "You've lost so much weight. Did you suffer outside?"
Xihe shook his head: "Not bitter."
But how could the old man who had always cared about his daughter believe it? He just thought his daughter was suffering outside.
Tears kept falling, my heart felt sore and painful, and I was full of self-blame. I felt that I was useless and could not give my two children a happy and wealthy family, and let them suffer.
When the father and daughter met, their faces were filled with joy, and little brother Wei couldn't sit still.
He quickly stepped forward, pulled Wei's father and pointed at Cheng Qian, his face full of excitement: "Dad, this is my brother-in-law!"
Before Mr. Wei could recover from the joy of his daughter's return, he turned around and saw the young man standing upright by the table. He had an upright posture, bright eyes, and looked very energetic.
Cheng Qian spoke first: "Hello uncle, my name is Cheng Qian."
Dad Wei said hurriedly: "Hey, hey, hello, hello." He was so panicked. He was still wearing slippers and a tattered coat. He didn't have time to prepare!
I don’t know if they dislike it. Dad Wei’s face flushed red.
When he turned around and saw the steamed buns and pickles on the table, he immediately got anxious: "How can you eat this! I'm going to buy some vegetables!"
It’s already seven o’clock, why are you still buying vegetables?
Xihe tried his best to persuade the man and stopped him.
Dad Wei was sitting at the table, fidgeting uncomfortably, and said bluntly, "I'll go buy groceries early tomorrow morning!"
The farmyard didn't have a water heater installed, so they usually went to the town's bathhouse to take a shower. After dinner, the hot summer air made everyone sweat. Dad Wei was so ashamed that he quickly stood up and said, "I'll go ask your third uncle if they have a water heater."
Cheng Qian wanted to say that he was taking a cold shower, but when he thought of the delicate Xihe, he stopped talking.
Uncle Wei's family had built a two-story house, which was very clean. As soon as Xihe arrived, Aunt Wei pulled her aside to talk, asking questions like, "What does your boyfriend do for a living?", "Why did you come home so suddenly?", "Your father and brother must have missed you!"
"Come back more often. Your dad is old, and your family will depend on you in the future."
Third Aunt held Xihe's hand and spoke earnestly.
Xihe nodded sincerely: "Aunt San, I know. I will take them over once my job is stable."
Aunt Wei San smiled with relief upon hearing this. The bathroom door opened and Cheng Qian came out. Seeing them talking in the corridor, he paused and walked over: "Aunt San."
He has a fair and handsome face, is tall and has long legs, and is particularly outstanding.
Aunt Wei San's eyes lit up, and she pushed Xihe to wash up. She pulled Cheng Qian into the house to ask him some questions. Her voice was loud, and Xihe could still hear her faintly after entering the bathroom.
But gradually the voice became smaller and smaller, and when she came out, the smile on Aunt Wei San's face was gone.
