In the dim morning light, the distant woods and nearby meadows were shrouded in a layer of light white mist. At the city gate, farmers were queuing up to enter the city, pulling carts and carrying bamboo baskets on their backs.
"Cousin Rou'er, have a safe trip." The man, dressed in official robes, had a resolute gaze. He was the eldest son of the Fu family.
"Take care of yourself, cousin." Xihe knelt down and bowed, then turned around and got into the carriage with the help of the maid.
Then the carriage creaked and started off.
There were more than twenty guards accompanying the trip, and three carriages, which were filled with Mid-Autumn Festival gifts from the Fu family.
Xihe was accompanied by a nanny and four maids.
"Miss, would you like something to eat?" The little girl took out the prepared pastries.
The pastries were exquisitely carved, attractively colored, and exuded the fragrance of osmanthus. Xihe waved her hand and looked at the scenery outside the window with interest.
They were now walking on the official road, with corn fields with yellow hues in the green on both sides of the road.
In the white mist, a scarecrow stands in the field, birds chirp, and the air is filled with the fresh breath of the morning.
Xihe smiled slightly and lowered the curtain.
From the imperial capital to the Lin family, they would be able to reach the Lin family in about half a month by taking the official road and water route.
On the following journey, the group would stop to rest when they came across a post station, and if they didn't find one, they would find an open area to camp before leaving. Xihe didn't make any noise, which made the guard captain who had been worried feel relieved.
He was a child born in the mansion, and was ordered by the eldest young master to escort his cousin south, so he was really a little panicked.
My cousin was well-known in the mansion for her tearful nature. Let alone being touched, even the slightest tone of voice would cause her to burst into tears. She looked delicate and frail, as if she was about to burst out crying. It was truly heartbreaking.
He was afraid that the young lady could not bear the hardship of the journey. Not only would she cry, but it was also hard to say whether she could arrive before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Unexpectedly, this young lady said nothing and continued on her way quietly.
For a moment, the master and servant got along well and the atmosphere in the convoy was very good.
Half a month later, the group got off the boat and were received into the mansion by the Lin family. The guards were taken away to rest, but Xihe was pulled into the study, where he was scolded by Lin's father and mother.
"Why did you come back so suddenly? Why didn't you discuss it with us? You've grown up and become more independent, right?"
Mother Lin was gorgeous and had a very aggressive temper. As she spoke, she pressed her finger on Xihe's head, a look of disappointment on her face: "I worked so hard to get you into that golden nest, and now you're trying so hard to get out."
"Stupid, stupid, how could I give birth to such a stupid person like you."
Father Lin sat aside with a sullen face, the pipe in his hand no longer fragrant. "Alright, alright, what's the point of scolding me? Hurry up and pack up and go back."
He glanced at Xihe impatiently, put down his cigarette, and taught her:
"When you go back, tell them that you couldn't sleep or eat well after leaving the Fu family. You kept thinking about your aunt, and you came back because you were so worried."
Xihe...you guys understand it well.
"Silly girl, did you hear what your father said?" Mother Lin stretched out her finger, but Xihe dodged it.
She sat leisurely in the chair: "I'm not going back."
Seeing that Mother Lin was about to glare again, she said slowly, "I'm going to the border."
"Huh? Border?" Father Lin was about to take a puff with his pipe, but was stopped by Mother Lin.
This is the golden baby they raised with great difficulty, but they haven't gotten any benefits yet. What if it gets broken?
She comforted her husband and glared at Xihe: "Don't even think about the frontier. Go back and have a good night's sleep. We'll return to the capital tomorrow."
