Gu Hongfei firmly disagreed with keeping Lin Zhenzhen.
"Even if she has nothing to do with this zombie attack, she is still a spy sent by the Western Theater Command!"
Gu Bosheng stood with his hands behind his back, looking out at the big tree: "She was forced into it."
"That won't do either. We shouldn't have trusted her in the first place. If she can betray them now, she can betray us later."
"The mutants are inherently inferior; without exception, they are all scum!"
Gu Bosheng turned around, his expression subtle: "Uncle Fei, without exception, what about me?"
Gu Hongfei realized he had misspoke and quickly explained, "General Gu, you're nothing like them. You did that for..."
"Alright," Gu Bosheng interrupted him, "I've already agreed to her."
When Gu Hongfei heard him say this, he knew that there was no room for maneuver.
He sighed and said, "Since General Gu has made up his mind, I have nothing more to say."
"However, Lingzhen needs to have a chip implanted."
Microchip implantation technology is typically used to manage prisoners and slaves, serving a tracking and monitoring function.
The entire implantation process was quick and painless.
Afterwards, only a light brown mark the size of a fingernail remained on Lin Zhenzhen's left arm.
In any case, she finally managed to stay in the Gu family mansion, and this time she finally got rid of the vegetable garden.
"General Gu won't let you go to the vegetable garden anymore?"
Fan Dandan thought she was being punished because of this incident.
"Hasn't it already been investigated and found to have nothing to do with you? Why are you still being treated like this?"
Lin Zhenzhen didn't know what Fan Dandan's final version of the incident was, but she still went along with what the other person said.
"Yes, General Gu knows I am innocent."
"But now that the rat infestation in the vegetable garden has been mostly cleared, I'm no longer needed."
"Even if we don't need you to catch mice, we can keep you here to plant vegetables and weed."
Seeing Lin Zhenzhen's downcast eyes, Fan Dandan knew she had said the wrong thing.
She quickly changed her tune, saying, "It's alright, as long as I can stay at the Gu residence. So, where are you going now?"
Lin Zhenzhen raised her head and looked at the tall and solemn gray building not far away.
Gu Bosheng led her into the core area of the Gu residence, the place where the zombies had previously attacked.
Later she learned that the building had a name: 17 Grey Pigeon.
Gu Hongfei remained very dissatisfied with this arrangement.
In his opinion, it would be best to send Lin Zhenzhen to some remote corner so that she would never have the chance to see Gu Bosheng again.
He was angry, so on the way to familiarize Lin Zhenzhen with the environment, Gu Hongfei kept making sarcastic remarks to her.
"What, is it something new? You have a map in your hand, shouldn't you have memorized the internal structure?"
Lin Zhenzhen lowered her head, not daring to refute.
"Hmph." Although Gu Hongfei was old, he had a strong voice.
He used his cane to draw an invisible line on the floor.
“From here on, this is the place you are not allowed to set foot in. Also, you are not allowed to go to the living room on the third floor; you only need to keep your cleaning duties in mind.”
Gu Hongfei talked on and on, without caring whether Lin Zhenzhen remembered it or not.
“Finally, and most importantly,” he widened his eyes, his face turning fierce, “keep your distance from General Gu.”
Lin Zhenzhen lowered her head and answered yes meekly.
After Gu Hongfei left, she threw down the broom in her hand and immediately changed her expression.
It's impossible to keep my distance from Gu Bosheng; it's impossible in this lifetime.
Ever since that day when she received a windfall and the system notified her that Gu Bosheng's strategy value had increased by 10, Lin Zhenzhen suddenly felt like she had become more assertive.
Full of fighting spirit, Lin Zhenzhen huffed and puffed as she took the rag and wiped from one layer to the other.
A new batch of black-clad guards stood outside the wooden door, maintaining their previous expressionless and unwavering demeanor.
The mess from that day had been cleaned up, and Lin Zhenzhen noticed with her sharp eyes that there was a little bloodstain on the surface of the painting.
She was carefully wiping the room with a rag when the door opened.
Gu Bosheng came out. Today, unusually, he wasn't wearing his uniform; instead, he had changed into casual clothes.
He was wearing a pair of thin-rimmed gold-rimmed glasses and had a white earpiece clipped to his ear, seemingly on a phone call.
As Gu Bosheng passed by her, Lin Zhenzhen whispered, "General, good morning!"
She grinned and smiled happily.
I didn't expect him to respond, but to my surprise, Gu Bosheng said something to the other end of the headset.
He then pressed a button on his wristband and hung up the phone.
Gu Bosheng stopped and smiled back at her: "Good morning."
Lin Zhenzhen blinked: "This is the first time I've seen you wearing glasses, General."
Gu Bosheng smiled but didn't say anything; in fact, he didn't need this thing at all.
After the genetic mutation, his five senses have evolved to a degree beyond what ordinary people can imagine.
The lab suggested that he could appropriately show some weaknesses to shorten the distance between him and the general public, which would be more conducive to consolidating his approval rating.
"General, are you busy?"
"I'm fine. Is there anything wrong?"
“I just saw this.” Lin Zhenzhen pulled him to the picture. “It’s dirty here, and I can’t clean it.”
Gu Bosheng also noticed the stain on it and immediately frowned.
He has obsessive-compulsive disorder and is a germaphobe. Even though it was just blood on the outside of the picture frame, he still found it unbearable.
