Lin Zhenzhen tried her best to shrink herself into a small ball in order to barely maintain neutrality between the two.
However, her stubbornness was soon broken.
"I'm so sleepy, I'm going to sleep."
Medusa yawned, wrapped one arm around Lin Zhenzhen's neck, and pressed most of her weight onto her.
"Medusa, you should take a good look at your size. Be careful not to crush our precious healing ability user."
"You bald bastard, die!" Medusa cursed. "How come I'm so big?"
The two of them walked one after the other, playfully bickering, while Gu Zhongsheng, standing to the side, appeared much more silent in comparison.
Lin Zhenzhen looked up and saw half of Gu Zhongsheng's face reflected in the rearview mirror.
His jawline was sharp, yet his fair skin made him appear somewhat sickly.
Her thin lips were delicately shaped, with a touch of alluring beauty that sparked endless imagination.
Just like the mysterious dual identity superimposed on him, this man exudes a contradictory beauty of wildness and civilization clashing.
As the vehicles gradually drove out of the center of the war zone, after passing through the first city wall, the surrounding buildings became noticeably dilapidated.
The streets were filthy and chaotic, most of the pedestrians were emaciated, and there were charred corpses on the roadside from time to time, with billowing black smoke behind them.
This is where ordinary people without mutation abilities live together.
"We're about to leave the city, everyone wake up first," Ji Xueyi reminded from the passenger seat.
Medusa straightened up in displeasure, her eyes still closed, but her hand had already reached into the pouch tied to her body.
Before Lin Zhenzhen could even react to what was happening, the car had already stopped.
Before us stood the city gate of the Eastern Theater Command, its towering metal walls stretching as far as the eye could see.
Every few hundred meters along the wall there is a small gun emplacement, some aimed outwards from the city, and others aimed inwards.
A black bird flew out from a hole in the city wall and headed in their direction.
When it got closer, Lin Zhenzhen realized that it was not a bird, but a giant mutated dragonfly.
It stopped on the windshield of the car. Its enormous compound eyes, which occupied two-thirds of its head, were fixed on them without moving.
Dragonflies have the most eyes of any animal in the world, and each eye is a self-contained system with its own refractive system and sensory cells, making them ideal for surveillance.
Two guards carrying guns walked to the car, and He Dali pressed a button, causing all four windows to slowly roll down.
"Bounty hunter team, destination: Sidrata Forest."
The guard took the tablet, typed in a string of characters, and said expressionlessly, "To return to the city, you need to hand over 50% of the hunting rewards in crystal cores."
"Bang!" He Dali slammed his hand on the steering wheel, and Ji Xueyi quickly grabbed him, saying, "Okay, we understand."
The guard glanced at them, then held out his hand: "Show me your bounty hunter pass."
He Dali reluctantly handed him a small green notebook.
Two guards, one responsible for checking the front row, and the other going to the back row.
"Hello, handsome!" Medusa blew him a kiss.
The other party remained unmoved, not even blinking, and simply repeated in a stiff tone: "Show me your bounty hunter pass."
Medusa pouted and handed the item to him.
After verifying that everything was correct, he looked up at Lin Zhenzhen and Gu Zhongsheng.
"And yours?"
Lin Zhenzhen lowered her head and began to pretend to grope her body.
Gu Zhongsheng, who was beside her, chuckled softly and tossed his identification to the guard past her.
He leaned down and whispered in Lin Zhenzhen's ear: "Do you need my help?"
Lin Zhenzhen didn't say anything.
Of course, she couldn't possibly pull out this damn pass.
The only document Lin Zhenzhen can produce right now is that forged identity card.
After a while, she had almost completely undressed herself before slowly raising her head.
"It seems I've lost it."
Both guards turned to look at her, their eyes filled with a cold indifference.
"get off."
Gu Zhongsheng opened the car door before her and walked directly toward the guards without saying a word.
The two men immediately raised their guns and pointed them at Gu Zhongsheng.
"Stop! Stop immediately!"
With this angry shout, the previously still cannon slowly rotated and aimed at them.
In an instant, the surroundings were filled with a dense mass of gun barrels.
Gu Zhongsheng raised his hands: "Don't be nervous. I just want to show you something."
He used his fingers to pull a piece of paper from his breast pocket and unfolded it in his palm.
After reading the words on the note, the two guards' expressions finally softened slightly.
They put away their guns, one of them took the items, and hurriedly returned to the base.
Soon, another tall man strode out.
Judging from the epaulets on his uniform, his rank was considerably higher than that of a guard.
The man's gaze swept over the people in the car, finally settling on Gu Zhongsheng in front of him.
He returned the paper to Gu Zhongsheng without saying a word, but his actions and expression revealed his respect.
Seeing that Gu Zhongsheng had returned unharmed, everyone else in the car found it unbelievable.
Ignoring Ji Xueyi's suggestive glances, He Dali asked directly, "What did you show them?"
Gu Zhongsheng closed the car door and said calmly, "I guessed that we might encounter some trouble, so I contacted the employer in advance and provided some assistance."
Medusa hugged Lin Zhenzhen, saying, "Luckily, Sheng was prepared, otherwise Karl, you would have been thrown off the bus."
