The return journey was eerily quiet.
Huo Yeshu rolled down the car window, and the howling night wind rushed in through the gap, forcibly pulling the still air into motion.
Lin Zhenzhen lowered her head, placed her hands on her knees, and remained motionless as if all life had been drained from her, even blinking very slowly.
The black sedan crawled along the road at a snail's pace. Huo Yeshuo tried to break the silence several times, but Lin Zhenzhen's grief-stricken expression made him swallow his words.
What should have been an hour's drive turned into two and a half hours by him.
"arrive."
"Hmm." Lin Zhenzhen responded somewhat blankly, then turned to pull the car door, but couldn't get it open no matter how many times she tried.
Huo Yeshuo unbuckled his seatbelt, leaned in, and turned on the switch. He glanced at her face out of the corner of his eye; as expected, she was distraught. What was unusual was that this time, she didn't cry.
It's just a pearl earring, isn't it? Is it because it was a token of love from Lu Yangyun that she treasures it like this?
Huo Yeshuo's fists clenched so tightly they turned blue. He had never been so out of control in his entire life.
He called out to Lin Zhenzhen, who was running away as if fleeing.
"Don't you have anything to say to me?"
Her figure paused for a moment.
"Thanks."
Huo Yeshuo sneered, stepped on the gas, and sped away.

When Lin Zhenzhen woke up, she had a splitting headache.
She got home at 12:30 last night. Her body was covered in wounds, and she didn't dare to take a shower. She had to call a delivery person to bring her some disinfectant and bandage medicine.
Although she had taken anti-inflammatory medication beforehand, Lin Zhenzhen still developed a slight fever in the middle of the night.
She felt as if her body was being scorched by fire at times and plunged into an ice cellar at others, with the hot and cold alternating repeatedly. She barely closed her eyes.
But no matter how uncomfortable it is, I still have to go to work.
Lin Zhenzhen mustered her spirits, packed breakfast, and headed to the company.
She arrived two minutes late.
After sitting down, Xiaoling patted her shoulder and asked in a low voice, "How is it?"
"What do you mean, how are you?" Lin Zhenzhen's voice was so hoarse that not only Xiaoling but even Lin Zhenzhen herself was startled.
She frowned, covered her mouth, and coughed twice.
"What happened to you? Your voice is so hoarse."
Lin Zhenzhen shook her head: "It's nothing, I just caught a bit of a cold. What were you asking me just now?"
Xiaoling chuckled twice: "What else could it be? Of course, it's about what happened between you and President Huo yesterday."
Lin Zhenzhen smiled slightly but didn't reply.
"Oh dear, why do you look so pale? Are you sick?" Xiaoling handed her a glass of warm water.
Lin Zhenzhen took the water glass and explained, "I caught a cold, and I didn't get enough rest last night because I was up until midnight."
"Working until midnight?!" Xiaoling seized on the key point, her eyes shining, her face turning yellow. "You two are moving way too fast!"
Lin Zhenzhen realized what she had misunderstood, but before she could explain, Luo Meng came out of the office and told her to complete the handover of her work by the end of the day.
"Go directly to the secretary's office tomorrow morning."
Xiaoling exclaimed, "They're only giving us one day to do the handover? That's way too rushed!"
"That's the HR department's notification. If you have any questions, Aya can contact Assistant Zhang directly."
“No problem, I accept this arrangement.” Lin Zhenzhen said calmly.
Luo Meng smiled and, seeing Lin Zhenzhen's pale face, considerately asked her if she needed to go home and rest for half a day.
"No need, I'm fine."
After Luo Meng left, Xiao Ling whispered something in Lin Zhenzhen's ear in surprise.
"Director Luo's attitude has changed so quickly. He said before that he would work overtime even if he wasn't feeling well, but now he's actually telling you to go home and rest."
"Is it because you're going to the 56th floor and will soon be working in the secretary's office? That's such unfair treatment!" Xiaoling said indignantly.
Lin Zhenzhen knew it wasn't because of that.
She took out her phone, typed a message, and sent it.
I received a reply in less than two seconds.
[Lu Yangyun: As long as she doesn't make things difficult for you anymore, that's good.]
[Lu Yangyun: Xiao Zhen, you never need to say thank you to me.]
Lin Zhenzhen selectively ignored what followed and directly clicked on the upper right corner to set her messages to "Do Not Disturb".
She hadn't been with the Huo family for long, so the handover was easy; she finished organizing all the materials in her hands in just one morning.
Xiaoling stretched and said, "Let's go, lunchtime."
"You go ahead, I want to catch up on some sleep."
"Would you like me to pack some food for you?"
Lin Zhenzhen shook her head: "No need, I brought some porridge this morning. I'll just eat something when I wake up."
"Alright then, I'll go by myself."
After Xiaoling left, Lin Zhenzhen took off the cushion behind her back, rested her head on the table, and fell asleep almost instantly.
She was sleeping so soundly that, in her hazy state, she felt as if someone touched her forehead.
In the very end, she seemed to hear a faint sigh.
