Gong Yao gently lifted his eyelids, his gaze slightly cold.
"Illegal operation?"
Having witnessed the ruthlessness of this head of the disciplinary inspection department, the man knew he couldn't hide anything from him, so he could only stammer and force himself to speak vaguely.
"That test subject was actually the host of the quick transmigration world. During routine monitoring, we discovered that there were extremely unstable factors in her."
"So I decided to separate her from the quick transmigration world and destroy her privately."
"Is that so?" Gong Yao narrowed his eyes slightly. "It is indeed a violation of regulations. Even I have to praise you for your audacity."
"Perhaps in your eyes these hosts are nothing more than a string of code, a series of numbers, as lowly as ants, which can be erased and destroyed at will."
"But in reality, they are the lifeblood of the empire. Because countless hosts in the quick transmigration worlds exchange energy by completing tasks, the empire can operate normally."
"To protect them, the Empire has enacted detailed and explicit regulations. Even I cannot disregard procedures and execute any host privately."
“Minister Yao, we understand these principles. But as the Minister of Discipline Inspection, you should know very well that the reality is often more complicated than the rules describe.”
The research minister stepped forward, his eyes hinting, "Rules are rigid, but people are flexible."
Gong Yao glanced at him lightly, slammed the golden scepter on the table, and continued, "I'm sorry, it's my duty, I can't sit idly by in this matter."
The research minister's smile froze again: "Minister Yao, we all belong to the same system, why tear off the mask and make the scene so ugly?"
"Our entire research department's contributions to the Empire are evident to all. Putting everything else aside, just consider this: without our technical support, could your combat capabilities have improved so rapidly?"
As he was speaking, the man beside him suddenly stepped forward.
The characters on the mask changed rapidly, countless expressions surged, and finally settled into three straight vertical lines.
"So what if it violates the rules?"
"Everything I've done is for the Empire! Every second that an unstable factor exists increases the Empire's instability."
"Those old men on the resolution committee are so slow and inflexible. The mechanisms they established thousands of years ago are no longer applicable to the current environment."
"The research department is not a bunch of bookworms buried in labs. We have outstanding creativity and execution capabilities, and more importantly, we all maintain absolute loyalty to the Empire!"
The man's speech was certainly passionate and inspiring.
Gong Yao curled his lips and gently touched his palms together, producing two crisp sounds.
"Although I don't agree with your approach, I understand your intentions."
Hearing him say that, the Minister of Research quickly chimed in, "That's right, that's right. We share the same goal: to maintain the stability and peace of the empire."
Gong Yao's expression remained calm: "For the sake of the empire, I can put this matter aside for the time being, but I have one condition."
"Okay, okay, as long as you're willing to cooperate, everything is negotiable."
Gong Yao raised his right index finger and tapped the table three times: "Very good."
"I need you to retrieve a recording of a small world."
"Code name no."
"We need to be fast."
"Furthermore, I would like to trouble the two of you to handle this matter personally."
Gong Yao's tone grew colder: "You are intelligent people, you should understand what I mean, right?"
**
A ray of light pierced the darkness, like black ink being brushed aside to reveal white paper underneath.
Lin Zhenzhen looked at the tall man who suddenly pushed open the door and asked again with some uncertainty.
"What did you say?"
Do you still want to see Gong Yao?
Lin Zhenzhen leaned against the wall and stood up, hearing her heartbeat slowly quicken: "How can I see him?"
Gong Yao avoided her gaze: "Just like the way you met him before, through a dream."
"It's just that this time the setting has been changed, so the plot will be more coherent."
Lin Zhenzhen realized what was happening, and her expression suddenly turned cold: "Is there anything I need to do?"
"No, quite the opposite, you can't do anything."
"You can't disrupt the original story's development, and you can't exercise your subjective will. You're just an audience member; just watch the show quietly, that's all."
Lin Zhenzhen frowned: "What's the point of doing this?"
“Of course there are.” Gong Yao pinched the small chip containing the video recording between his two fingers. “The story seen from one person’s perspective is often incomplete.”
