Chapter 416, Final Chapter 65

The doorbell rang suddenly.

Lin Zhenzhen frowned warily.

As a female celebrity living alone, her residence is very secluded, and the community has excellent security. It's unlikely that she would have a visitor who suddenly appears without prior notice.

A strange man's voice soon came from outside the door: "Hello, is anyone home?"

"A package for Ms. Lin has arrived. Please sign for it."

Hearing that it was a delivery, Lin Zhenzhen felt a little more at ease.

She reached out and turned on the peephole on the wall.

After a brief flash of light, a man in a red and gray uniform appeared on the screen.

Perhaps seeing that no one answered from inside, he took out his phone, checked the number on the delivery slip, and dialed the number.

Lin Zhenzhen took two steps back into the living room, held the phone to her ear, and whispered, "Hello, is this a delivery? Please leave it at the door."

"OK."

Lin Zhenzhen leaned closer again, crossed her arms over her chest, and silently watched the man's figure disappear into the elevator.

Two minutes later, she opened the door and picked up the package from the floor.

This is a package shaped like an envelope.

Lin Zhenzhen looked at the two characters "Gong Yao" in the sender's column, and her hand trembled uncontrollably.

It was as if a powerful drug had been injected into her body, instantly pulling her wandering thoughts back to reality.

Lin Zhenzhen took a deep breath and forcefully tore open the seal at the top edge of the package.

Unexpectedly, instead of a letter, there was a thin postcard inside.

"Zhenzhen, it's like seeing you in person as I read this."

"I am now lying on a huge rock, and all I can see is the vast sky."

"It's very quiet here. Apart from the occasional strong wind, most of the time I'm only accompanied by stones and yellow sand."

"Fortunately, there was a small village at the foot of the mountain where I bought postcards that I could send to you."

"It was pressed under a small bundle of firewood, with some stains on the edges that couldn't be wiped clean. I picked up a few petals and stuck them there, and it seemed to cover it up quite well."

"Are you tired from filming lately? Have you been eating well? Did you successfully rescue that stray cat you mentioned last time?"

"I suddenly remembered that today is Children's Day. Although I know you will definitely think it's childish, I still want to tell you."

"Happy holiday, little Lin Zhenzhen."

"Not just on holidays, I hope you can be happy every day, and I also hope that I can be by your side in every ordinary moment like this."

"If nothing unexpected happens, I'll be able to return soon. Transportation here is inconvenient, and I don't know whether the postcard or I will reach you first."

I really miss you.

"——Gong Yao, June 1, 2019."

Perhaps due to improper storage, some of the blue-black ink has worn off, revealing the original yellowish background.

Lin Zhenzhen slowly tightened her grip on the edge of the postcard, then flipped her wrist to reveal the front of the postcard.

What comes into view is a photograph with an extremely simple composition.

Just as Gong Yao described in his writing, the land was covered with yellow sand interspersed with a few scattered boulders. Amidst the desolation and loneliness, it revealed a breathtaking beauty.

The location where the photo was taken was written in the lower right corner. It was a very difficult place name to pronounce. Lin Zhenzhen read it to herself several times, as if she wanted to engrave it in her mind.

This postcard was written on June 1st, which is only three months ago.

What exactly happened in those short ninety days?

Lin Zhenzhen didn't believe that Gong Yao would take the initiative to break up; the problem must lie with her.

But no matter what, the most urgent task right now is to find Gong Yao and find out what exactly happened.

A postcard is a mailed package, and naturally it will contain the sender's information.

Lin Zhenzhen dialed the number left on the page, but only received a cold, electronic female voice in response.

It's an empty number.

The situation has once again reached a stalemate.

Lin Zhenzhen held the postcard in her hand, examining it repeatedly, trying to find some useful clues.

Soon, she saw a number, no. 69/100, in the upper right corner.

The 69th one?

Suddenly inspired, Lin Zhenzhen turned around and walked towards the display cabinet that was placed in the most conspicuous position in the living room.

Sure enough, after opening the cabinet door, she saw a stack of postcards neatly piled up.

From No. 1, No. 2... to No. 68, not a single one was missing; they were all sent by Gong Yao from different places.

Since 2018, Gong Yao has sent 69 postcards, which means he has gone out at least 69 times.

Such a frequency of going out is nothing short of astonishing.

Before Lin Zhenzhen could think further, the phone on the table suddenly started shaking wildly.

It was an unfamiliar number.

Lin Zhenzhen pressed the answer button.

A gentle, friendly female voice came from the other end of the receiver: "Hello, is this Ms. Lin?"

Lin Zhenzhen lowered her brows and replied, "Who are you?"

"Hello Ms. Lin, I am a staff member of Anshi International Hotel."

"hotel?"

"Here's the thing, a Mr. Gong booked a table by the window on the top floor of the hotel for 9 p.m. tonight, six months ago."

Lin Zhenzhen's heart trembled, and her voice involuntarily rose an octave: "Is it Gong Yao?"

"Yes, for the past two weeks, we have been trying to confirm tonight's schedule with Mr. Gong, but we have been unable to get in touch with him."

"But at the time, he filled out a customer sign-up form, and your phone number was listed as the emergency contact."

Lin Zhenzhen vaguely sensed that the other party's words were a bit strange, but after hearing that the other party also could not contact Gong Yao, the light in her eyes suddenly went out, and she no longer had the energy to care.

"Um, I'm sorry, our schedule has changed, we can't come."

"I understand. Ms. Lin, could you please provide your account number so we can refund your deposit?"

"No need." With that, Lin Zhenzhen was about to hang up the phone.

The person on the other end quickly called out to her, "Miss Lin, please wait a moment."

“Mr. Gong not only paid a deposit when he made the reservation, but also left some personal belongings, which we cannot dispose of without his permission.”

"Personal belongings?" Lin Zhenzhen paused. "What exactly are they?"

"We don't know either, because the black box is completely sealed, and it's not convenient for us to open it and check."

"However, Mr. Gong made a request at the time, hoping that the kitchen could hide the box behind the dessert plate before serving it to the table."

The woman paused, a subtle, seductive tinge creeping into her voice: "Personally, I think it might be something like a ring."

"Such a valuable item, Miss Lin, you'd better come in person."
