In a residential complex in Jinyang City, the top-floor west-facing unit in building 13 is a two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment. The decor is very simple, but it's clean and tidy. Most of the residents in this complex are ordinary office workers, working every day to pay their mortgages—typical corporate slaves.
The floor tiles were bright white, and the walls were painted a warm, yellowish-brown, giving the whole house a cozy and comfortable feel. What seemed out of place was the thick layer of dust that had settled on the floor, making it look as if shrouded in a gray veil.
The coffee table was covered with a pile of snack bags, a messy jumble that looked like a typhoon had passed through, the kind of thing that could drive someone with OCD crazy.
A woman in a white silk nightgown reclined on the sofa, watching a funny comedy sketch playing on television, making her laugh heartily. She had delicate features, her almond-shaped eyes possessing a charming yet alluring quality, and her smile was captivating; her belly was slightly protruding.
Before she knew it, a morning had passed. The woman casually ordered takeout and continued watching TV, living a leisurely life, completely forgetting about the husband she had abandoned in the hospital.
Upon entering the kitchen, Zhang Wenxiu found the dishes piled high. Without even glancing at them, she tossed them into the sink and turned to go back to her room to rest. She wouldn't touch these chores; she'd let Li Wuyou do them when he returned.
Ms. Sun has been away on business recently, otherwise she wouldn't want to stay in this messy house! Staying in a five-star hotel and eating gourmet meals, isn't that better? Thinking that her sugar daddy would be back in a couple of days, Zhang Wenxiu smiled. Anyway, since Li Wuyou, that idiot, wasn't around, she could go out with her sugar daddy.
As he walked, Zhang Wuyou slipped and stepped into a puddle, falling backward and landing hard on his bottom, causing his tailbone to ache.
"Ah...it hurts so much..." Zhang Wenxiu screamed, clutching her stomach and crying out. Her face was deathly pale, which was quite frightening.
Reaching down to touch her fingers, she saw a faint trace of blood, glaringly obvious. Zhang Wenxiu felt a wave of dizziness wash over her, her hands trembling uncontrollably. In a panic, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
When she was lifted into the ambulance, Zhang Wenxiu had completely lost consciousness.
Wuyou, who was organizing reports at the police station, was a little surprised to hear the phone ring. But considering the nature of Li Wuyou's work, she still chose to answer the phone. A nurse's gentle voice came from the other end.
"Hello, are you a family member of Zhang Wenxiu? Something has happened to her, and we would like you to come to the hospital."
Wuyou felt strange after hearing this. Zhang Wenxiu was perfectly fine, so why was she in the hospital? However, she still had to maintain her image as a good husband. She spoke anxiously and then quickly asked for leave and left.
A month later, the familiar smell of disinfectant returned to Wuyoumoming, stirring a mix of emotions within her. She rushed to the operating room, but the red light above it made her restless. Her hands clenched tightly together, and she frequently glanced towards the operating room, her face filled with anxiety and worry.
"Huh? Wuyou, what brings you here again?" The frail old man, dressed in a hospital gown, exclaimed in surprise upon seeing Wuyou. His face was covered with wrinkles, bearing the marks of time.
"Grandma, I...my wife had an accident, it's all my fault..." Wuyou's eyes reddened. "Actually, I haven't been feeling well these past few days either. I was thinking of going back to see her today, but before I got back, I received a call from the hospital. If I had been by her side, she definitely wouldn't have had this accident. If something had happened to my child and my wife, I would never have peace of mind for the rest of my life."
"Wuyou, how can this be your fault? It should be working hours right now. There's nothing you can do to help her now that something happened to her. It's fate, and you can't blame yourself," the old man said, patting Wuyou's shoulder to comfort him.
"Thank you, Grandma. You're not feeling well, go back and rest!" Wuyou sniffed, looking sad, but her heart remained unmoved.
About an hour later, the operating room lights finally went out. Wuyou quickly stepped forward and grabbed the first doctor who came out, almost shaking him.
"Doctor, how is my wife? Is she alright?"
The doctor took off his mask, let out a long sigh of relief, and said with a hint of reproach, "It's fortunate that you were brought in in time; the baby is saved. Go and pay the medical bills! She should be fine after a week in the hospital and taking good care of herself at home. But as her husband, how could you leave her alone at home?"
"I...it's my fault. I shouldn't have left her at home for work." Wuyou lowered her head, her slightly long hair obscuring her eyes, making it impossible to see the expression on her face.
"Sigh, you should take good care of the pregnant woman. Make sure she's careful at home, and it would be best to find someone to help her. Also, you can't let her stay at home all the time. She should do more things and move around more, otherwise, if the fetus gets too big, she'll suffer a lot later." The doctor sighed. In today's society, everyone is working hard to make money, and he is one of them, so he can understand the hardships of these office workers.
"Is it really harmful to the fetus if I don't move around all day?" Wuyou asked the doctor with a surprised expression, grabbing his arm.
This appearance quickly dispelled any bad impression the doctor had of him, making him think he was a good father, and he carefully explained some precautions to him.
After thanking the doctor profusely, Wuyou sat by the bedside, looking at the unconscious Zhang Wenxiu. She was indeed beautiful and charming; no wonder Boss Sun wouldn't let go of her even with a tiger in his grasp. Of course, this was under the condition that she wasn't in danger.
As darkness fell, Zhang Wenxiu finally woke up from her deep sleep. The first thing she did upon opening her eyes was to touch her belly. This was a precious baby, and she couldn't afford to make any mistakes.
