"Why..." Shen Wangshu asked softly.
"He treats you badly," the King of Wei said to her in a very frank tone.
He forced Prime Minister Song to retire, ruining his career and making him almost like a father's killer, yet it was as easy as drinking a sip of cold water.
"Just because of this?" Shen Wangshu looked up and stared at him with a piercing gaze.
Her eyes were so bright and radiant that they dazzled the King of Wei. He pursed his thin lips tightly and nodded.
"I never imagined that such a man actually existed." Shen Wangshu never thought that she would meet a man who would treat her well without reservation, and who considered anyone who slighted her as his enemy.
She lowered her head and chuckled quietly twice. Then, she raised her head, stood up, and slowly walked to the King of Wei. Seeing that the young man's handsome face was flushed and he was barely managing to keep his expression straight as he looked at her, she suddenly smiled, stretched out her soft hands, cupped the King of Wei's handsome face, and looked down into his eyes as if trying to see into his heart.
The skin beneath his hand slowly warmed up, and Shen Wangshu leaned forward and gently pecked the young man's fair cheek.
Suddenly, the King of Wei turned his head and covered his nose. Drops of blood flowed from his graceful fingers, blooming into tiny petals.
Shen Wangshu was stunned.
She glanced at the King of Wei's bright red ears, then at his embarrassed expression as he silently wiped his nosebleed and occasionally turned to look at her in shame.
How could the royal family do such a thing...?
Shen Wangshu felt as if he had committed a heinous crime.
"I... I've just been overindulging in the palace." King Wei, seemingly trying to salvage his image, quickly wiped his nose before turning away and muttering, "The autumn air is crisp and clear... I'm restless... I'm just feeling unwell." Seeing Shen Wangshu staring at him silently, his face suddenly flushed even more, and he said in a low voice, "If you don't believe me, you can try again." With a serious and dignified air, he brought his handsome face close to Shen Wangshu's, his gaze sweeping over her as he said, "I certainly won't disappoint you."
His dark eyes held a hint of expectation.
Shen Wangshu readily agreed, cupped his face, and took another bite.
The King of Wei suddenly turned his head and gently touched her face with his lips.
Shen Wangshu chuckled, a hint of eagerness in his eyes, but the King of Wei grasped his arm and gently shook his head.
"After the wedding, I can do whatever I want, but now... I want to save these for the most beautiful wedding night," he said seriously, his face flushed.
His eyes were sparkling and indescribably beautiful, but Shen Wangshu felt speechless at what he said.
These words... were they meant for her to say to him?
"I understand." For some reason, she felt a little regretful. All those things concerning Prime Minister Song, Consort Rou, and Song Wan'er were far less important than the young man in front of her.
She looked at him with tender affection. He turned around and seemed to see that she was in love with him. A faint smile appeared on his face, but he still helped her to sit down on a stone bench. Sitting with her made him feel happy and he forgot everything else.
But he still remembered what he wanted to say to her, and whispered in her ear, "You don't need to worry that His Majesty and the Empress Dowager will dislike me for forcing your father to retire." His eyes were full of genuine feelings and affection. He held her hand and lowered his head to say, "The Empress Dowager and His Majesty would probably also be willing for me to marry a princess who has no relatives after her retirement."
He was trusted by the Empress Dowager and the Emperor, and was extremely loyal, but those in power had much more to think about.
Only when Chancellor Song retired and no longer had any support for him in the court could the Empress Dowager and the Emperor feel at ease.
Only then will they favor their princess even more and pamper her without any worries.
She would be a distinguished guest in the Empress Dowager's and Empress's palaces, and the most favored princess in the royal family.
That kind of honor and glory is worthy of her.
Upon hearing Shen Wangshu's smiling response, King Wei suddenly felt like laughing himself.
"The prince's wedding will likely require a long preparation period, and I don't want to neglect you in the slightest." He couldn't help but lower his head and gently touch his lips to her soft, fragrant palm. For some reason, he felt an urge to lick each of her fingers one by one, but he dared not let Shen Wangshu know. He could only suppress the restlessness in his heart and silently think about the wedding before calmly saying to Shen Wangshu, "That illegitimate daughter is nothing more than a concubine. Tell her to go to the Marquis of Linxi's residence first, so she won't get in your way."
When Song Wan'er was mentioned, the King of Wei's eyes showed an uncontrollable disgust.
"How do you know she's a concubine?" Shen Wangshu replied casually, then suddenly asked.
King Wei's breath hitched.
"Speak." The King of Wei's face was always so attractive that Shen Wangshu couldn't help but lean over and kiss him again, pinching his ear as she spoke.
The earlobe between her fingers felt incredibly soft and slightly cool. She gently twirled it, blew on it, and smiled, her eyes crinkling.
Having experienced many reincarnations, she naturally behaves differently from ordinary young ladies who follow family rules, which sometimes makes her seem unconventional.
King Wei's ears turned even redder. He wanted to free his ears from that sweet torment, but he was also very reluctant to do so.
"I only exchanged a few words with the Marquis of Linxi." The Marquis of Linxi had come to establish a connection with him.
The younger brother was to marry the illegitimate daughter of Prime Minister Song, while the future queen consort of King Wei was the legitimate daughter of Prime Minister Song. This was already a very close marriage relationship, so Marquis Linxi naturally came forward with great joy to establish kinship and to befriend King Wei.
However, the King of Wei was not entirely satisfied with Zhang Yourong. Upon hearing this, he coldly expressed his dissatisfaction and disgust with Song Wan'er, who had plotted to frame his own queen. His words were filled with displeasure, which immediately made the Marquis of Linxi feel threatened. How could he dare to make Song Wan'er, who had offended the King of Wei, his brother's principal wife?
