Chapter 2 The Eldest Daughter's Counterattack (Part Two)

After taking an abortion pill, Song Lan lost her child, and Song Wan'er finally stopped crying and smiled. The two reconciled, and this time, Song Wan'er forgot all about the dying Song Lan.

In their eyes, Song Lan was the third party who had come between them.

But when they married Song Lan, none of them ever told her that they had feelings for each other.

The young, beautiful daughter of the Prime Minister's family withered away in the Marquis's mansion.

Shen Wangshu quietly propped himself up to see the Empress Dowager off, glancing at Song Wan'er's pale and pitiful face filled with tension, but suddenly smiled.

It wasn't too late when she transmigrated; the man hadn't yet proposed to the Prime Minister's residence, and Song Wan'er hadn't yet experienced the rejection and humiliation from the Marquis's matriarch. She was still dreaming.

She didn't think there was anything wrong with the love between a concubine's daughter and a nobleman's son, but if for the sake of some worthless love, another innocent girl's life was ruined, she was wantonly trampled on, and even tricked into marriage, then that was the act of a beast.

"Are you alright?" King Wei looked at the girl on the sickbed and gave her a faint smile. He frowned, knowing that according to etiquette, he should have left the side hall to avoid tarnishing the girl's reputation. However, looking at the quiet girl with her eyes lowered, seeing her smile, seeing her frail and thin body huddled in the bright red embroidered brocade quilt with butterflies and flowers, as if she would disappear at any moment, he couldn't help but step forward and look down at this beautiful girl who was the first to fall into his arms, feeling a little hoarse in his throat.

He was a witty and resourceful member of the royal family, but when he saw her raise her eyebrows and look at him, he couldn't think of anything at all.

Before his eyes, there were only her bright, star-like eyes.

He had never seen such bright and sparkling eyes in anyone else's eyes.

“Once Your Highness is stabbed, you’ll know whether you’re in danger or not,” Shen Wangshu said with a smile, looking up at him honestly.

She's in pain, so why should she force herself to say she's not?

King Wei, who was expecting her to bravely say "it doesn't hurt," twitched his lips, but the words of comfort he was about to say, "If it hurts, you don't have to endure it," remained stuck in his throat and he couldn't utter them.

"You were in a lot of pain," he said with difficulty after a long silence.

“Of course it hurts.” Shen Wangshu looked at the doorway. The noble ladies who had been summoned to the palace by the Empress Dowager and were in a state of panic after experiencing a change in events were all persuaded to leave by the palace maids. Even Song Wan’er left unwillingly.

She recalled Song Wan'er's jealous, red-eyed expression before she left, chuckled, and then, remembering that Song Lan in the book was actually a rigid and unromantic girl, she forced a serious expression and said to the Prince of Wei, "Your Highness need not worry. I protected the Empress Dowager. Even if it hurt a little, what is it compared to the Empress Dowager's comfort?"

She seemed to take it for granted, and the King of Wei's expression gradually softened, regaining his royal composure and dignity.

He was no longer at a loss; instead, he felt at ease and couldn't help but smile. He sat down in a chair and said with a smile, "You are different from ordinary women."

"It's just that Your Highness is not very knowledgeable," Shen Wangshu said dismissively in a deep voice.

She seemed to be in great pain, and slowly leaned against the headboard. Her long, black hair was softly draped over her shoulders, but her eyes were exceptionally clear.

The King of Wei seemed to have regained his shrewdness, looking at the girl who dared to rush out to protect the Empress Dowager, disregarding her own life and death, with a scrutinizing gaze, as if he were doubting her intentions. However, he couldn't help but reach out and support her shoulders, helping her to lean more comfortably.

His phoenix eyes seemed to see into hers as he tentatively asked, "You saved the Empress Dowager today, and I'm afraid you'll be richly rewarded. What do you want? Tell me, and I'll plead with the Empress Dowager later." He still suspected that she had her own ulterior motives for protecting the Empress Dowager.

Song Lan naturally had her own thoughts. She lowered her eyes and brushed away the King Wei's slender hand that had landed on her arm.

This King of Wei, whom I've only just met, seems somewhat...

“Someone gave me a push,” she said casually.

"What?!" King Wei, who was waiting for her to make some requests, held his breath but only heard this, and was immediately surprised.

"I was pushed into this situation. Of course, rushing towards the Empress Dowager later was my own idea." Shen Wangshu looked at the silent King Wei with a frank smile.

“The Emperor and the Empress Dowager share a deep bond. If anything were to happen to the Empress Dowager, I fear all the girls in the palace would be punished.” She lowered her eyes, her pale face bearing a mixture of determination and rationality as she spoke. “Though I am unworthy, I dare not implicate my elderly father in his punishment. My desire to protect the Empress Dowager’s safety is, of course, my own selfish motive.”

Her uprightness left the King of Wei speechless.

He looked at the girl in front of him, who was honestly revealing her selfish motives in a serious manner. After a long while, he silently reached out and covered her dark, captivating eyes.

"What you say goes into my ears; don't tell a third person." He sighed softly.

His gaze fell upon the girl's gentle smile, and a sense of worry and concern arose within him.

She is too innocent. If he doesn't take the time to guide and protect her, she might be eaten alive.
